1.
I personally prefer the 2eq pre EB's, they go for a bit more but have a sound of their own that I couldn't find on a modern Stingray.
Exactly!
 2. Why not refinish it with a transparent black finish? I had my old Fender P57 done that way and it looks great: it's still black but you can still see the woodgrain underneath.
 3. Well done - nice selection of sounds there. I live in Warsaw too - never heard of your shop before though - so I might have to come and visit you...
 4. I'm biased, but if I were you I would look for a pre Ernie Ball model. However, if you can't find one or find they are too expensive, buy a Classic StingRay instead. In my opinion the 2 band EQ, one pickup models rule.
 5.
The most pertinent line in this story was "a few drinks and smokes".
And magic mushrooms...
 6. I bought my big Fender logo'ed JV57 Precision bass for £50 from the archetypal 'bloke down the pub' way back in 1985. If I recall correctly, his sales pitch went something like: "Oi mate, you play bass dontcha? Wanna buy this off me for a bullseye?"
 7. The answers to your questions are: Yes and No. Yes, when in passive mode it will sound the same as a regular passive bass. No, the active circuitry should not colour the passive sound of the bass.
 8.
Correction. The Hipshot XTenders (which is what we are talking about) generally detune to d (if put on an E - although it could detune to anything really). They do a double detuner option which lets you tune to either D or C, ie, it has two stops and you can pick either. Strangely I can't see that product on their page any more.
Thanks for the info. They don't actually advertise the double-stop versions, but I noticed that if you click on the details button you get the option to buy either the regular or the double-stop.
 9.
There's a lot to be said for the stability of graphite necks, this being one of their main advantages.
Yep. You hardly ever need to tune up!
 10. Can I ask a Hipshot Bass Xtender question too, please? Does anyone on here have the double-stop version fitted to a bass? If so, I'm wondering how low they can be set to go: for instance, on a regularly tuned 4 string could you drop the E string to a lower D and also a lower B?
 11. Three! 1: Status S2000 fretless 5 string 2: Rickenbacker 4003s (back in the days when Rics were allowed in the Marketplace) 3: Fender P fretless Still got all three of 'em!
 12.
I'd forget the castors and get a trolley.
Not a bad idea, however the cabs are so heavy that the trolley would need to be something like an industrial-strength sack barrow - which is a tad too cumbersome and bulky tbh.
 13.
Ok, but surely not this... http://www.promusicd...op/antiguajazz/
Absolutely vile!
 14.
should be 'plays' like butter
Basses only play like butter if you are in the US. If you are in the UK basses play like lard.
 15.
Local lad eh? All good thoughts, thanks!
Yep! Born in Pembury hospital, raised in Tonbridge - now living abroad though.
 16.
Most helpful post on Basschat all week! I hadn't even attempted to pronounce it in my head, never mind out loud
Why, thank you very much. My wife is Polish and we live in Warsaw so I am slowing becoming a master at pronouncing words with a distinct lack of vowels! Before here, we lived in Holland so I'm also pretty good at coughing up large wads of phlegm whilst talking... ;D
 17. How about putting an ad in the local music shop (the one by the station in Tonbridge or, if it still exists, JB's in T Wells)? Failing that, how about an ad in the Courier?
 18.
If you don't mind smelling like a teenager, Deodorant is fantastic at cleaning off sticker goo and is readily available.
Zippo lighter fuel is my goo-remover of choice - just be careful you don't 'do a Jimi Hendrix'!
 19. Thanks for the info, chaps!
 20. Some thieving toe rag has nicked the castors that should be on the bottom of my Ampeg cabs - yes, yes, I know, never leave gear in rehearsal rooms - and I'm having a really hard time finding replacements. What I need are those swivelling ones on stems that fit a 4x10 and a 1x15. I'm based in Poland and have tried contacting the local distributor but to no avail. They come up from time to time on eBay but only from the US and the cost of shipping makes it unfeasible to actually buy. Anyone got any ideas....?
 21. Derek Forbes (ex-Simple Minds) was selling his black Spoiler on eBay a while back, so yes they are out there.
 22.
i have no idea how to pronounce the name
ma-roosh-chick
 23. Luvverly! If you don't mind me asking, how much did the import tax cost?
 24.
Bassmatters in Njimegen? Dunno what the trip there from Amsterdam will be like - just hoying it in the mix.
THIS! +1000! Paul who runs Bassmatters is THE man for bass in the Netherlands. Nijmegen is about an hour's drive south from Amsterdam (or take the train, if you won't have a car there). I spent 10 years living in Amsterdam and while Dijkmann and Dirk Witte are okay for odds and sods - cables and the like - if you really want to visit a shop purely dedicated to bass, it has to be Bassmatters. However, if you want to buy second-hand, then I recommend www.marktplaats.nl - the Dutch equivalent of Gumtree/eBay/whatever. You can buy pretty much anything on Marktplaats.
 25. When I first got married I did find it problem - so I swapped my wedding ring to my right hand instead.
