Anyone know of an off the shelf 5 string bridge with an extended bit for the B string like some yamahas seem to have? I've got a Squier pro tone 5 and cant get the intonation right on the B, it's sharp and I've nearly run out of adjustment on the bridge, the other 4 strings are intonated fine. Don't know what else to do about it really...

Thanks clarky. Difficult to explain the sound other than it has more clarity than a standard fender, a bit more bottom end but not excessively so, with the jazz pickup turned up as well it sounds similar to an active bass, very punchy, with a crisp top end, the clips in the link should give an idea.

It does work for anyone, just ordered some. Thanks.

Blue Marlin sydwinder, p/j pickups, great first bass, traded for- Epiphone viola which i didn't get on with at all, also had a neck defect, so was returned, USA american traditional series jazz bass, brand new in 1999, still got and will never sell. Squier jap silver series precision, part ex'd for- Epiphone Rivoli, which was great, but didn't have a case and at the time was told nearly £300 for a case, plus extra cost of shortscale strings, so it went in p/x for- Squier pro tone 5 string, bloody brilliant bass, regret getting rid of that one, but traded for- Status 4000 series when at college, sold that later on. 2002/3 Bought another pro tone 5, as the shop had one left and kept this for a while. 1978 Rickenbacker 4001, saved first 2 months wages i ever had to buy this, wasn't particularly keen on the playability or sound really, p/xd for 1979 Fender precision, the bass I always wanted, stuck an 80s dimarzio in it, for some reason i p/xd that for a jazz bass, mentioned below. 2004 51 precision reissue, great bass, but could never get it setup how i wanted, so went in p/x along with the second pro tone 5 for- Sandberg basic ken taylor 5 string, superb bass in every way, but could never quite get used to the shape and smaller size of the body, so it was swapped on here for a 2004 US standard Precision, another keeper. 2003 ish US standard Jazz in sunset orange, great bass, had a chrome bridge cover on it, looked the buisness, but i missed my precision too much, so it went in a swap for- Classic series '57 precision, always wanted the us version of this but could never afford one, but after getting this there's no need to, changed the pickup for a US vintage one, and put a .1uF vintage condenser in , in almost every aspect its the closest i'm ever likely to get to owning a real 57 P bass, best precision ive ever played, along with the jazz will never be sold. 1982 Wal custom, wenge facings, picked up for £750 about 5 or 6 years ago, before the prices went stupid for them. Squier Musicmaster, white. 1983-ish SD curlee, never seen another, got broken up for bits at college, pickup later went in the 79 P bass. Tried to put it into some kind of order of which things came and went, but can't remember some of the dates and stuff exactly. Currently have , the original black jazz, '57 reissue Precision, black USA precision, the Wal, and a 51 reissue bought from Lozz a few months ago, and a double bass.

I've never played one either, though the only one i really took to sound wise was the 2 EQ model, the later stuff always seems to sound to thin to me, wether thats just how the amp and bass Eq were set i don't know. If i can off load my double bass, and possibly the 51 Precision, I'd have a punt on the 1990 black one that was on here.

Fender Road Worn 50's Precision mini review (with pics)
Foxx replied to mashup's topic in Bass Guitars
Besides the finish, are these any different to the classic series 57? I have the classic series 57, changed the cap for a .1uF vintage PIO type and put a set of fender original pickups in plus roto flats, and it's absolutely perfect. -
Is it my eyes, or does that precision have jazz-width neck too?

For me, it's the sound, the playability, and the look/style of them, particularly the Mk1 and mk2, not at all keen on the mk3 shape though, looks too much like any other boutique bass on the market in my book. I'll stick with my 1982 Mk1, I got it for £750 about 7 years or so back, before the prices went uber-stupid.

Depends on the price it's been built down to i guess, as everything nowadays seems to be.
