  1. Thinking about it, I have a ‘Y’ cable somewhere that allows you to connect two 4 ohm cabs to a 4 ohm min amp. Not sure how the science works but it effectively makes the amp think that it is a 4 ohm load, it was made by @obbm of this parish.
  2. This is now for sale on the forum as spares or repair if anyone is interested: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/338237-trace-elliot-ah250-gp12smx-spares-or-repair-£50/
  3. Trace Elliot AH250 GP12SMX – Spares or Repair - Not Working - £50 collected or £65 delivered mainland UK I bought this recently off a well-known auction site as a ‘spares or repair’ with a view to getting it fixed up. Unfortunately my other two SMX heads have since developed minor faults which means I currently have three that each require varying degrees of attention. As somebody who isn’t gigging at the moment I already have too many back up heads, let alone 3 that aren’t working. Therefore I’ve decided to pass this one straight on to somebody else and I’ll concentrate on getting the others back fighting fit The Good Points: • Cosmetically in superb condition • All the correct knobs and switches are present and the front fascia looks like new • All the switches and corresponding lights appear to work as they should • The tolex on the original case is in pretty good order now it’s had a bit of a clean-up The Bad Points: • This amp requires TR1, TR2 and output rebuild • Metal protective corners have tarnished due to the paint flaking off over the years A post-it note stating what repairs were required was left inside the amp. Other members have had similar work done on these heads and apparently you’re looking at £100-£130 for a tech to do it. If there are any members who are handy with electronics they could no doubt sort it for far less than this. These are great amps but I’ve finally realised that I really don’t need to own a large proportion of those still in existence! £50 collected form South Yorkshire or £65 posted to mainland UK (UK buyers only please).
  4. You’re right. For someone who’s not currently gigging 4 spare amps is a bit overkill! Only issue is the two ‘working’ SMx’s appear to have recently developed minor faults otherwise I’d have been pming you re your wanted ad 🙄. I may now sell on the ‘spares or repair’ one requiring an output rebuild.
  5. I too can fully empathise with struggling to find the motivation or any joy in practicing bass at home when not playing in a band. Best wishes to the OP 👍
  6. Loving that matching headstock by the way 😎
  7. Yeah I do love the look of those. I’m not a fan of front leds but as someone who has struggled on dark stages, side or (Ideally) wraparound ones do actually give a real practical benefit.
  8. I am. I’ve put a wanted call out for a CW purely as I’m interested in the different pickup positions, but I know I could specify those positions on a new Series 2 anyway. And now you’ve shown your beauty! Decisions, decisions 🤔
  9. That looks stunning. Congratulations on a beautiful bass. 😍
  10. Exactly this imho. I can and have played basses with narrow string spacing, but I didn't like it and it didn't feel comfortable so given the choice I'd avoid doing it again. Necks I can/could adapt to far more easily. The favoured neck amonst my current herd is on my Aria SB-R80. It's big and chunky but seems to suit my hands/long fingers (I have no idea what its neck profile would be termed as). However, I can then switch to using my EBMM Sterling which by comparison has a tiny, slender neck. As far as my ability to play it goes, no problems at all but the issue that I have noticed just recently is that I'm starting to experience pains in my left hand after playing a slimmer width neck for a while. As has already been stated there are a variety of reasons why a player may favour a particular neck profile or string spacing, but it doesn't mean that they can't play anything else, it's just that they know what they like and would prefer not to.
  11. No, 8 ohm each or a single 4 ohm. I think they are there just as a connection option.
  12. Interesting. Everyday’s a school day 👨‍🎓 EDIT - Lovely bass by the way. GLWTS
  13. 😮 That must have been some band if an SMX 4x10 wasn’t loud enough (or there was something very wrong with it). I used to regularly gig with a 1x15 SMX combo without pa at some decent sized pubs and the output vol rarely went above 9-10 o’clock. Even then it was still a bit loud for our guitarist on occasion.
  14. I’ll second that. They did the same for me, although they did send me the new one first on the understanding that I sent the original one back (they won’t update the EB records with the new serial number if you don’t send it back). Around £17 cost if I recall. Beautiful bass by the way. GLWTS
  15. Nice one. I can imagine it’s like waiting for Christmas morning as a kid 😁
  16. I recently picked up a ‘spares or repair’ AH250 SMX (non-fan). My main amp is the same but I also have a later 280 version which does have the fan. I do prefer the non-fan models purely because I’ve become used to the almost silent running. I think I’ll be getting the spare fixed up and then move the 280 on.
  17. I think I could be tempted to go for a Status Graphite, either a Series II Classic or the Chris Wolstenholme model 😍 . I'm loving the early 90's SII that I recently bought and would be very interested to compare it against these newer models, different preamps etc.
  18. Totally agree with this. I personally can't get on with Ashdown amps, but that's down to me, my ears and my expectations. There are however plenty of people who love them to bits that probably wouldn't like the amps that I do favour.
  19. I'd start on a Precision copy to 'practice' on. That way you can add an additional pick up at the rear (P/J) or change the original split coil for whatever you fancied (a soapbar, MM etc). If it all goes a bit Pete Tong at the neck pickup, you can at least hide all the evidence under the scratchplate!
  20. My old bass I believe. The finish is called Translucent Gold and is stunning, very difficult to capture photographs to do it justice. This really is a great bass! GLWTS
  21. I had one with a Sheffield speaker too. All very decent as I recall.
  22. My newly acquired 1991 S2 (or S2 'Matrix' as I think it would have been termed at the time being headed). This is a bit of a timewarp bass - it really is in mint condition. It recently came into this country from the Netherlands (where the original owner resided). Maybe a member on here? I did initially think that I had a problem with a noisy preamp/buzzing at higher volumes. Turns out that the equation of this bass + my old Trace SMX's + the electrical interference in my man cave = buzzing at high volume. Tried it elsewhere in the house, at different times of the day and through a couple of more 'modern' amps and it's as quiet as a mouse. I'm really enjoying it and as @MB1 warned me, I may end up wanting more than one!
