Has anyone ever found a Barefaced Supertwin lacking?
Deedee replied to la bam's topic in Amps and Cabs
I’ve had Super Twelves and Super Twins (I recently snapped up my current silver cloth Super Twin) and in my opinion there’s very little between them. Both superb quality, sound and great dispersion. I’m sure the Super Twin has various technical improvements over the Super Twelve but to coin a phrase, I wouldn’t climb over a used Super Twelve for a Super Twin. -
Hello Kirstie. A fine choice of green tinted amplification! 😎
-
As stated above, a musical instrument shop in Sheffield. Lots of used bargains to be had so worth keeping an eye on.
-
And as if by magic, Richtone have just listed a SMX 1x15 combo
-
Ah I remember my SMX combo fondly. At least the 1x15 is better than the 2x10 H though. They're about 10 Kg heavier 😮
-
Not me I’m afraid.

I was tempted to ask if I could just buy the head to remount in a rack case. I’m assuming any fittings/alterations would have been done already.
-
I must admit I'm still a sucker for it

Interesting that both the head and the cabs appear to have been remounted into the new casing. Only one skin between the head and top cab, only one between the top and bottom cab etc.

Squier Silver Series MIJ Precision - £150 collected or £170 shipped to mainland UK I picked this up off evilbay a while back hoping it was the bargain of the century. Suffice to say it wasn’t. It looked like it had spent most of its life being used as a door stop. The back of the neck looked like it had been re-varnished with a fork and the string action bore a striking similarity to something you’d fire arrows from. However, all was not lost. Body – Various deep scratches the worst of which are those above the scratch plate near the top horn Scratch plate – Replaced with a B/W/B from a Squier VM. The original which I no longer have was single ply Black Bridge – Replaced with a Fender MIM unit. The original will be included but the saddle screws are odd (see pic) Neck – Truss rod works fine and the bass now has a lovely playing action. The ‘textured’ varnish was removed and Tru-Oil applied so the back of the neck now has a lovely smooth, satin finish. There are a few tiny nicks but nothing nasty. Frets are all good. Tuners – Original and working fine Pick up – Original and working fine although the covers have seen better days. I did fit an SBP-1 for a time but this original sounded better to my ears so I put it back in Pots/Loom – Replaced with a Kiogon wireless loom with Switchcraft jack, CTS pots and new flat top chrome knobs. Original loom also included Weight – On some dodgy luggage scales it’s approximately 9lb All in all it’s a very decent, solid bass with more than its fair share of mojo. I used it as a back-up and for jam nights where you wouldn’t cry too many tears if anything happened to it. Collection from South Yorkshire or will ship to mainland UK well wrapped in a suitable box.

This looks fantastic. Pity I don’t have a forklift 😟 https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F273636742333

Picked this up very recently as I was hedging my bets on a couple of heads and had heard good things about them. Lots of love for these on here and elsewhere online. Huge range of tones available including a bit of valve pre-amp goodness, but alas it's just not floating my particular boat and I think my amp needs are better served elsewhere. It's in superb condition save for a couple of nicks in the vinyl covering on top. • 600 watts • Flat/Pre-shape switch • Passive/Active switch • Input Meter • 9-band EQ • Graphic In/Out switch • Variable Valve Drive Pre-amp • 1 x 12AX7 pre-amp tube • Built in variable compressor • Sub Harmonics feature • DI Out (pre or post) • Mute switch • Tuner out • Line out • Foot switch socket (foot switch not included) • Line Input • FX Send and Return • 2 x Jack/Speakon outputs • Minimum impedance 4 ohms • H x W x D (mm): 134 x 474 x 315 • Weight (kg): 12.5 Now £330 shipped to mainland UK (uk buyers only thanks). EDIT 17/01 - Now also listed on ebay

Yes, similar to the Trace pre-shape 1 (hugely scooped). I'm sure that they're great amps and while I've not had the opportunity to use it in a live situation (nor will I for the foreseeable) but my gut instinct is that it's not for me. I took a punt on it as it was cheap so hey ho, at least I've tried it.
-
I'm set in my ways and realise that I'm spending time trying to make it sound like other kit that I already have
-
Mine is going to be up on the forum shortly. It’s just not for me I’m afraid 😟
-
Me neither

Many thanks for the advice @Mudpup, @la bam and @Lozz196. Greatly appreciated. Everyday’s a school day 👨🎓

It’s not so much trying to get a similar sound, they’re 2 different animals. It’s just that I’ve never experienced such a big difference between them in general tone when using other amps (and I’ve had plenty). Currently using through a BF Super Twin.

I was being too extreme with the slider movements. You do need to use your ears instead of your eyes, but you can make big changes with very subtle changes to the sliders to enable you to keep a tone that remains good for different basses. Phew! I'm going for a lie down
