Yeah it’s in for flat/out for the pre-shape. The EQ is on and certainly working. I may just be going from one extreme to the other and need to be a little more ‘delicate’ with the sliders in order to get a decent tone for both basses. They’re pretty sensitive and make a significant difference with very little movement. EDIT - Just to clarify I am liking this head, it's just that I have a very short attention span/little patience at the moment and I think I may be the only bass player in the village who has never used an Ashdown head before
-
What I’m finding at the moment (again it’s early days) is that the way you set the EQ up for one bass varies hugely when switching to another. I’m used to regularly switching between a P and a Stingray pretty seamlessly, changing little more than the volume. With this I need to really cut the bass and push the treble right up to get a bright tone on the P but when I switch to the ‘ray I have to make wholesale changes to the EQ on the head to get it sounding anything like. Am I missing something? EDIT - See below

Exactly this. I’ve been having a play with one of these over the past couple of days (I have an Orange 4-Stroke incoming too but, long story short, I saw a used ABM 600 at stupid money so thought I’d hedge my bets and see which one I like best). I’ve never known an amp that is so bass heavy! With everything flat it just sounds like mush. The fact that you have to ignore your eyes and just use your ears possibly explains the number of bass players I’ve seen using Ashdowns and sounding awful. There are certainly great tones to be had, it’s just that the starting point is a little off-centre.

That’s what it is. I was trying to make it out. Sounds great and a lovely dark board too 😍

Ernie Ball Musicman Sterling 4H - £750 collected or £780 posted mainland UK I bought this earlier in the year from Tonewheels. It’s a beautiful bass and plays great but I’m not gigging at the moment so moving on a fair bit of gear. • 2007 4H Natural Gloss with Maple Neck • Ash Body • 3-band EQ • 3-way selector switch (see image below for config) • Weight approx 4.4 kgs • Comes with original MM hardshell case and 2 scratch plates (Black/white/black and Grey Pearl) This is a lovely bass in excellent condition and is for sale at the bargain price I paid for it. Selection of images below including the original ones from Tonewheels’ ad showing the bass with the grey plate. £750 collected from South Yorkshire or £780 posted to mainland UK buyers only thanks. EDIT - More natural light photos added 📷

Peavey MiniMAX - £180 collected or £200 posted mainland UK I bought this as a back-up a couple of months ago from Silverfoxnik, then I was going to sell it straight on, then wasn’t. Anyhoo as I’m not gigging at all at the moment I’m selling quite a few bits of kit so this has now got to go. • 500 Watts RMS into 4 ohms • DDT™ speaker protection • Pre-gain control with TransTube® gain boost • 3-band EQ with Punch, Mid-shift and Bright controls • Psychoacoustic low end bass enhancement • Built-in direct output with ground lift and pre/post switch • 1/8" aux input • 1/8” phones output • Chromatic tuner with speaker and DI mute • Two twist-lock combo 1/4" outputs • Built-in effects loop • Active and Passive inputs • Dimensions: 10.75” width x 3.25” height x 6.625” depth • Weight: 5.6 lbs. • Comes with carrying bag These have got some real punch with a lovely tone. The fans are known for being quite noisy. It’s not an issue at rehearsal or gigging volumes but could be a pain at bedroom levels (unless you use the nice ‘Aux in’ and ‘Headphones’ features for silent practice, in which case you won’t hear a thing). This is in very good condition and I even managed to remove the ridiculous sticker from the top of it so it looks a little more ‘grown up’ now. £180 collected from South Yorkshire or £200 posted to mainland UK buyers only thanks.

That's definitely what I'm gassing for right now, four string, headed, wraparound LEDs. Absolute drool fest ! If anybody is thinking of parting with theirs, please do get in touch.
-
I'm sure you could, but i'm not sure I'd want to
-
Lovely looking bass but what’s the deal with the LEDs being on the wrong frets? How confusing would that be? https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F264109263238

Likewise, I’m in South Yorkshire with a practice amp going begging if you need one. Good luck to you 👍

Blimey, this all got a little heated 😟. For my two-penneth I’m sure there may well be some technical truth in the quiet G, but I personally have never had an issue with it. I have found MM quality to be superb and I’ve had a great many basses from various manufacturers (including a Wal which I loved, but I still had to take it to be shimmed due to insufficient break at the bridge). I’ve had (and still have some) a dozen EBMM basses in various guises with manufacture dates from 2004 to the new Stingray Special and they have all been top notch imho. They’re not everyones cup of tea but I think trying to label them as ‘poor quality’ is unwarranted and potentially very damaging. I’m sure there are many other manufacturers out there far more worthy of that kind of reputation.

Has anyone ever found a Barefaced Supertwin lacking?

Gorgeous. That’s really not helping to quash my Status itch 😟 -
Modern compact cab recommendations or an old Trace Head
Deedee replied to The Twickerman's topic in Amps and Cabs
Barefaced 2x10 cabs get a lot of love and they’re pretty tiny. -
Thanks for that. To be honest it’s only one of my amps that is particularly susceptible, my old Trace SMX. I’ve recently had it serviced with quite a few caps etc being replaced, but I was still getting this interference coming through, which turned out to be from the power line ethernet devices that I’d got plugged in. They do cause interference and to prove the point I unplugged them all then tried the amp again and the main ‘pulse’ that I could hear previously disappeared. I have since bought one of the above conditioners and it has certainly improved things. I would recommend it if anyone else is having the same issue.

Genz Benz Streamliner 900 - £300 collected or £320 posted mainland UK I bought this a couple of months back purely because it was such a bargain. However, I now have another amp incoming so this is back up for sale at the same snip of a price that I purchased it for. A lot of love for these heads and info on these hallowed pages but here’s the main blurb: • 900 Watts @ 4 ohms / 500 Watts @ 8 ohms • SMPS and Class D power amplifier design • Class A Six Stage Tube Preamp (3 x 12AX7A Tubes) • Modified Passive Baxandall EQ for the Lows and Highs • Active Tube Driven Mid EQ • Selectable 3-Position Mid Frequencies: 220, 600, 2.5K HZ • Input Mute • Hi Gain switch • Master Volume • Effects Loop • Headphone Input • Aux. Input • Dual Speakon Outputs • Variable Speed Fan Cooling • Weight: 6.5lb • Size: 3 1/4" x 10" x 11 7/8" This is in very good condition save for a few surface knocks and scrapes on the casing. The blue lights work as they should as does everything else. Comes with original box. £300 collected from South Yorkshire or £320 posted to mainland UK buyers only thanks.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I've just ordered from PMT. I'm not actually gigging at the moment but I will be again at some point next year so I think it's time to semi-retire my ageing SMX (it's just had a major service but is getting a little noisy in it's old age).

Yeah saw that Lozz but the seller was unwilling to post unfortunately 😟

I've been toying with getting the ABM 600 rack mount version (currently £549 I believe). How would you compare the 4-Stroke to the ABM?

2005 EB StingRay Recently Traded to GuitarGuitar Edinburgh
Deedee replied to johnDeereJack's topic in Bass Guitars
Exactly this I suspect. I have two EBMM Sterlings one rosewood and one maple and have switched the necks purely for aesthetics. I will however swap them back to original guise when I come to sell either of them. -
Is anyone using or could recommend to me a power conditioner/extension for home use? I'm getting some major interference through my amp when home practicing. The mains power at home is a little unstable to say the least (lots of power cuts etc) and some recently added power line ethernet adaptors are only adding to the interference. I'm looking at the below one for example, but would ideally like to know if anybody else was happily using a similar device. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tacima-6-Way-Mains-Conditioner-black/dp/B00UB0G4DQ/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 Thanks
