  1. Symmetry of sorts with a newly acquired 4HH Honeyburst ‘ray
  2. But I do love a bit of rosewood 😉
  3. I think it’s all about that contrast between the body and neck
  4. It is a pretty special look 😁
  5. Before and after. Both still sound and play great but just look a whole lot better (to my mind anyway) 😁
  6. Almost makes me want to start smoking again
  7. My pair of Sterlings. I’m toying with the idea of switching the necks around. Not only am I a sucker for black and maple, I also love rosewood and natural 😍
  8. I must admit, I may still offload my lovely Charcoal Sparkle 4H for a 4HH that I originally wanted 😔
  9. 🤔 Does that mean you have finally succumbed???
  10. You can’t change the price from that initially entered. However, you can edit your title to include the new price and state ‘Price Drop’ in either the title or on the main body of the post.
  11. I just thought I’d share my recent experiences of what I found to be great customer service from Strings & Things / Ernie Ball. #1 A couple of months back I realised that the deep scratch on the neck plate of my Sterling 4HH was in fact a crack. After scanning these hallowed pages for advice, I found that others had experienced this issue and had successfully obtained replacement plates from Strings & Things. I sent an email to S&T and promptly received a response explaining the process, the reasonable cost (£17 posted) and the fact that because I’d missed that month’s order it would probably take a month or two. Fast forward to this week, a shiny new plate arrived stamped with a new ‘F’ prefixed serial number. On receipt of my old cracked plate Ernie Ball will alter their records, listing the new serial number against my bass. #2 I recently purchased a rather lovely Stingray Special. In the case candy was a card inviting me to register my purchase, which I duly did. Again, fast forward to this week and out of the blue I receive a letter thanking me for registering my new instrument accompanied by a 25ft Ernie Ball instrument cable! Some might say that after spending a not insignificant amount of dosh on a bass, that was the least they could do. But the point is that it was completely unexpected and therefore over and above my expectations. Top marks to them on both counts from me. I’m sure many of us experience shocking service everyday so it warms the cockles to see that good customer service is still alive and well. Keep it up guys. 👍
  12. Now sold. Thanks for all the interest.
  13. Took a bass in trade for a cab from graham. Bass as described, arrived well packaged and great comms throughout. Trade with confidence
  14. I've just taken this lovely thing in trade from grahamd and as I had discussed with him before trading, I'm moving it straight on at the agreed trade value. I'm tempted to keep it but I'm going through a bit of a Musicman phase at the moment so this doesn't really fit in with that Fender MIJ alder precision body which was converted professionally to PJ by Howard the Bass doc who also did the electrics, CTS etc Lindy Fralin precision pup DiMarzio Ultrajazz bridge pickup Hipshot tuners Gotoh 201b bridge Fender neck plate Warmoth USA maple/maple precision neck, vintage tinted gloss finish with string retainer It really does feel lovely and plays well. The nut is Jazz width (38mm) but depth wise it's quite chunky, to my mind reminiscent of a Blue Sparkle Steve Harris Signature P so to P bass players it shouldn't feel alien or narrow. The back of the body has some indentations (from I assume a protruding belt buckle) but nothing nasty and nothing that has broken the surface of the finish. Collection/meet up preferred (I'm in South Yorkshire) but will ship at buyer's expense as it's now back in it's box and ready to go (in a leather look gig bag for added protection) Link to grahamd's original ad below (thanks grahamd): https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/330298-traded-high-quality-pj-bitsa/
  15. That’s a bit naughty to say the least...😡
  16. I agree with both of the above comments. As Chiliwailer said the best word to describe the Special is ‘refined’. Compared to other Stingrays, I’d say the the build quality and overall feel is like that found on the previous PDN models, but with the added bonus of the new 3-band EQ in a lighter package. I usually like heavier basses, but there is certainly no hint of these feeling cheaper than their weightier forebears. With regards to the smoothness of the sound, I’d agree that it’s still got attitude/can go punky. The re-voicing has not made it more aggressive. Certainly not as aggressive as a Sterling for example, which is my particular favourite at the moment. 😁
