On the first point, many thanks again for the recommendation. On the second point, should this ever happen you’ll be first to know - as soon as I’ve stopped crying that is 😱

Sold a p pickup to Oldbass. Prompt payment and great communication throughout. Many thanks

Mainly in the box room - otherwise known as my man cave. Most bases are on the wall plus I always have one on a stand in the living room for quick access! Amps and cabs are (very neatly of course) also stacked up in the box room. Several other guitars are stored under beds and mic and light stands etc are in the garage. At one time I did keep some older cabs in the garage, but horror stories of damp and small furry creatures burrowing in them put me off 😳

Just wanted to (belatedly) show the two beauties that I have recently purchased from fellow BassChatters. They are pretty different animals for me (both through neck, twin pickup) as I’ve mainly been a Precision or Stingray player for a long time. First up, a 1991 (I think) Made in Korea Spector NS-2A. This particular model came highly recommended to me by a fellow BCer and I’ve not been disappointed. With it’s shorter top horn, I was a little concerned that it would take some getting used to playing on a strap, but it’s been fine. It feels and plays like a top quality instrument and my thoughts of swapping out the preamp and pickups have been put to bed as I used it at a gig last weekend and it sounded great, cutting through and sounding punchy. I think I now know what players mean when they describe ‘piano like’ clarity. Next up a gorgeous 1981 Aria Pro II SB-R80. This really is in beautiful condition save for a couple of dings which are pretty well camouflaged (the joy of a natural finish). I once lusted after a ‘standard’ SB and was gutted once I tried one as I couldn’t get on with the string spacing. However, this R version with the more traditional neck dimensions feels great. I’m loving the different sounds available from this bass. Obviously a very different beast to the Spector, but still punchy and able to go from a nasally honk to full fat dub in an instant. All in all, I’m a very happy chappy and many thanks again to Maut and James for the smooth transactions.

Lovely basses. SH was my hero when i started playing around 1988. Went to see Maiden at the NEC in November of that year and played the Live After Death video to death in the mean time. Bought one of these a couple of years ago and it had amazing sustain. I’m sure I’ll have another at some point 😉

I was never a huge Oasis fan but I thought this was one of the best music documentaries I’ve seen. Thoroughly entertaining.

Just received a rather beautiful Aria Pro II SB bass from James in even better condition than I could possibly have imagined. Great communication throughout and nothing was too much trouble when it came to supplying info/pics/vids of the bass. Arrived very promptly and expertly packed. Many thanks again. Top BCer, trade with absolute confidence.

It’s a tricky one with noise nuisance and to be honest, I’d probably side with the neighbours. I used to live in a townhouse with paper thin walls and we had major problems with noise from the neighbours. The problem is you’re always on edge. Every night we were just waiting for the drum and bass party next door to start. Partly due to this, I am now so mindful of how bass frequencies travel. We’ve all heard a boy racer from 2 miles away with the parcel shelf in his Corsa bouncing. If I’m not playing through my headphones, I’ll play through my rig sat on a gramma pad at truly quiet ‘radio’ levels. If ever I need to briefly crank something up to ‘vibration’ levels (testing cabs etc) I’d ensure that the neighbours were out or I’d set up in the garage on a concrete floor.

Cocktail sticks have always worked for me. Pop them in, snap Off and screw in. I’ve never found the need to use glue.

I’ve just weighed it using some luggage scales (being as steady as I could) and it’s showing 9.5lbs. That’s probably about right as I’ve had a fair few EBMM Stingrays and this is one of the heavier ones I’ve owned (I do like a bit of weight to my basses). However, it balances beautifully on the strap and feels lovely 😁.

Bought a Spector NS-2A from Niels. Great communication throughout and set a new standard in how to pack a bass for shipping. Many thanks Dan

Haha, exactly. That’s one of the reasons that I didn’t get one in the end. However, I was (maybe still am) very tempted by a MIJ SR4000e that had non-gold hardware. I don’t know why they don’t offer them with the smokey pewter colour that’s often used on the BTB range. They look lovely 😍

Tube heads - Lovely sound but (as I had been warned) I very quickly tired of lugging it around. Warwick Thumb - Lusted after one as a teen. Finally had the opportunity to buy one a few years ago but was bitterly disappointed when I tried it. It just felt awful to me. EDIT - Forgot jazzes. Love the look and the sound, but just cannot get on with them

Am I in a minority in really not liking gold hardware on basses? There have been some gorgeous basses for sale on the marketplace that I would have been all over had it not been for the fact that they were fitted with gold hardware. Instead of approaching the buyers, I find myself researching the availability of silver or black replacement hardware. Is it me???
