1. I think the main difference is that years ago a really cheap bass felt cheap and played even worse (impossible to correctly adjust intonation, action etc). Nowadays a very cheap bass may still ‘feel’ budget but it will be playable and functional. EDIT - Am i the only person who had an Encore P in the early nineties that played fine? Did loads of gigs with it 😳
 2. I recently acquired a pair of lovely TecAmp cabs. Tried them linked directly to my head and they worked fine. Linked them together using my one and only speakon to speakon cable and nothing at all from the second cab. Fortunately the connections on the cabs are speakon/1/4” combos so I could prove that the cabs were ok using a jack to jack cable. Turns out that either my speakon cable was knackered or wired strangely. Bought a new ‘Off the shelf’ cable and it works a treat. Moral of the story, don’t panic - it’s probably just your cable!
 3. If you can get hold of a SMX head, snap it up. The 250 (also often listed as 280) is the most manageable version but has all of the key bells and whistles that the range is renowned for. Louder than you will ever need and as versatile as any head available. If you can’t get a SMX, the SMC heads come a close second. Failing that, the majority of old school TE heads will genuinely p**s all over modern competitors. Do I sound a little biased?
 4. Crazy prices for top notch kit. Call the cops, it’s a steal 😮
 5. I’ve seen them half a dozen times since the early 00’s. They’ve been just about the best Floyd band around for years. Although I did enjoy them more in the smaller ‘in your face’ venues (Nottingham Rock City, Newark Palace Theatre etc). Look out for Floyd In The Flesh though. Saw them recently and they’re great. Relatively new kids on the block as a Floyd outfit, but superb musicians who are also in various other bands (Junction, Surreal Panther etc).

 16. Hi all Bit of a one-off this, although I have seen a couple of other examples online where the same has been done. This started life as a 'Series 6' 1215 combo from the early nineties. For the uninitiated, these combos are narrower than the usual Trace cabinets i.e the same width as TE separate amps heads. Me being a huge fan of Trace SMX heads, I removed the original 200 watt 'Series 6' combo amp and replaced it with a lovely AH250 GP12 SMX head. The result is that you have a superb SMX combo in a slightly smaller than usual package with the added benefit of having a 'quick release' beast of a head to be used as a separate as and when you require it. Basically, unscrew the head, slide it out and bingo - one of the best heads Trace ever made for use with whatever cab you care to choose. Both the amp and the cabinet are in superb condition and it comes complete with a pretty much 'as new' Roqsolid cover (with green piping obviously). The combo is a weighty beast but is fitted with decent castors for easier transportation.

250 watts - loud, very loud
Minimum 4 ohms
Passive/Active switch
Solid State/Valve input blend
12-band graphic eq
Pre-shapes 1 & 2
Graphic in/out
Dual band compressor with EQ balance
Standby switch
DI out
Effects Send/Return
Tuner Out
Foot switch Out
480mm wide x 335mm deep x 590mm high (plus castors)
Weight approx 27kg
Price is lower than the sum of its parts (as is the way with a lot of Trace gear nowadays). Alas, it just isn't getting any use as my other AH250 GP12SMX (my main head) is proving to be bullet proof. Collection or meet up only on this as I really wouldn't want to courier this. I'm in South Yorkshire. NOTE - I may sell the head and cabinet separately, but only if somebody comes in the for cabinet first (if for example someone already has a 1215 Series 6 combo with a poorly speaker).
 17. More sad news today, like we needed more 😟

 19.
Ah I didn't know that, no speakon though right?
No speakon, just a 1/4” jack
