1. Well I’ve decided that I’m after a US Precision so sadly I’m going to have to part with my Stingray and its 2 necks………. Musicman Stingray 4H 3 band eq 2003 Black with Black guard The body does have a few surface scratches and minor dings on it, but nothing major that has gone through to the wood. The electrics are fine and it is a very powerful beast. Original Maple Neck As you are aware MM necks haven’t been gloss for many years. However, after falling in love with the gloss finish on the Fender P I had at the time I looked into getting this refinished. Horizontalste had recently had the neck of his ‘ray refinished by Jon Shuker and was very happy to recommend him. So, off to Mr Shuker it went for a tinted gloss lacquer finish. This included a complete re-fret and new nut. The work on the neck was actually featured on his FB page at the time (some of the pics below are from that feature). The results are stunning and that black and ‘enhanced’ maple combination is pretty much hard to beat. As you’d expect the neck is in mint condition. It could in all truth possibly do with a minor fret dress which I was going to send back to Jon to do, but then along came the Status neck so I didn’t bother in the end. This neck is currently still fitted with its original MM tuners. Status Neck - currently fitted I’d heard many good things about pairing a graphite neck with a Stingray so I’ve given that a go too. To be honest, I do really like the combination and it plays beautifully. Also looks real 'stealth' . This neck does have a few scratches and minor dings on it. Nothing on the actual face but a few on the side of the neck and the headstock. Again as with the body, there’s nothing that shouts at you but they are there if you look. This neck was previously fitted to an OLP Stingray and the tuners that are currently fitted are from that bass. So, there you have it. A beast of a bass with 2 neck options for a bag of sand! I’d prefer to sell everything together, purely because I don’t want the hassle of swapping necks etc. There’s a slightly battered MM hard case included (or alternatively a MM gig bag if you prefer). Trades: A recent US Fender Precision (i.e. one fitted with the Custom Shop ’62 pickup). Must have a rosewood board. I’m based in South Yorkshire but as always, don’t mind a meet up.
2. I'd have my old Honeyburst 3 band Stingray back in an instant if it was available. I sold it to Bigthumb of this parish a couple of years back when I was selling everything to buy a Wal. Well, the Wal didn't get used and I wish I'd stuck to what I had back then. I think Bigthumb sold it on but I have messaged him to ask, just in case he still has it.
3. Tried it at rehearsal for the first time the other night. Blimey, this thing is great! Great sound straight out of the box with everything set north, backed the bass off a bit and upped the mids. With the gain just past 12 o'clock ish through my BF Super Twin it was easily holding its own with 2 rock guitars and a hard hitting drummer. Very impressed and certainly confident having this as a very capable back up and I'm sure I'll be using it at a few upcoming gigs. Would be interesting to see how the new TE Elf compares to these amps (it was the Elf I was originally after given my love for all things green) 😊
4. Prompt response back from Hipshot customer service 👍 The MIJ 70's reissue requires the BT2 The 2011 Squier VM requires the BT7 So I'm just on the look out for one now 👀
5. Ibanez BTB 5's have wider string spacing, balance well, feel really comfortable and are cheap as chips. Not much love for them but they're great basses.
6. This is a great cab. I'd buy it back if I could find another to pair with it. Don't be fooled by the size - these cabs are very powerful with great tone.
7.
Great amps these, and fantastic value - especially at this price!
And Richard's a top fella to deal with. GLWTS
8.
email Hipshot, they'll tell you. They sent me 5 allen wrenches for the teeny tiny saddle screws on a Hipshot bridge I bought used a year earlier. They sent em free from the USA to Oz. With that sort of customer service I'm sure they will steer you right
Cheers, I'll try that 👍
9. Tecamp/Eich cabs. I had one but wanted another to pair it up with. They really are like hens teeth 😟
10. I'll keep an eye out in the market place 👍
11.
The Hipshot site gives details for what fits what.
Yeah I was just wanting to check if anyone had fitted one to a VM Squier as they are not listed. The BT10 for Japanese Fenders should obviously be ok for the 70's reissue. Do I assume that a BT7 should suffice for the Squier? 🤔
12. Hi all Toying with trying out a Hipshot Bass Xtender on my Squier VM P 2011. Or possibly my MIJ 70's Reissue P. Does anybody know which model I'd need?
13. Just bought a Gotoh bridge from Tom. Item in great condition, great communication and speedy delivery. What more could you want? Many thanks Tom
14. Congratulations to you both 🍾
15.
It's hard to criticise a guy who is on his own wacking a guitar, dancing on a looper or 2 , and has 100,000 people singing along to every word. Very impressive.
Another here agreeing 100% with that. It's just you can't help thinking how it would be so much better with a band?
16. Nike Rodgers is a legend - simples. He also has the benefit of not being the vocalist so he can have a great band and put on a great show, despite his years (unlike Barry Gibb). His guitar playing is still just as awesome as ever.
17.
Glastonbury is just like a big version of Jools Hollands show - A few decent acts but most of it is utter dross. The presenters follow up by saying every act was amazing or brilliant, it would be great to hear one of them say that was f*cking sh*te.
😂 Bang on
18. For my two penneth I thought they were great and engaged with the crowd in a way rarely seen at Glastonbury. Polar opposite to Radioheads approach last night.
19. There was a GK MB200 sold on eBay recently for spares or repair. The seller stated that it went pop after he had 'used it on a carnival generator'.
20. I've been after a small 'pocket rocket' back up head for quite a while. One that I can just keep in the gig bag should the worst happen to my beloved Trace. I held out for one of these after reading all the love for them on these hallowed pages. Well, it arrived this morning and I'm a very happy bunny. Very simple controls, lovely tone and through my BF Super Twin it sounds very loud for such a compact box, Happy Days 😁
21. Great basses and great modifications. CTS pots on these make a huge difference. GLWTS
22.
Glad to hear it's sorted.
Yeah, me too thanks. I'm very impressed. I'd heard people rave about these pickups before, but they really do have a real thick punch to them. The Squier VM P that I've fitted it to already had a Kiogon kit fitted (CTS pots etc). My MIJ 70's reissue P is fitted with a Custom Shop '62 which I also love, but this model P really has turned my Squier into a worthy alternative rather than just a decent spare.
23. Another recommendation for Dave Ball in Nottingham. Got rid of a buzz on my TE SMX that had been there forever and also gave my other TE head (later Peavey era) a good going over (dry joints etc).
