How are you finding it, DeeDee?
Still finding it wonderful, but has anybody else felt the need to look into fitting a string retainer bar to catch the G as well as the A and D? There seems to be very little break on the G

Well the new project I'm in isn't going to require quite as much 5 string action as I thought, so one of my fivers is going to have to go I.e. either this or my Squier VM Precision V. First up is my rather lovely Ibanez BTB675 bass. This is in excellent condition and looks and plays beautifully. Here's the blurb: The 5-string Ibanez BTB675 Electric Bass unleashes unbelievable sound capabilities, thanks to quality woods, superior construction, and cutting-edge electronics. A solid light ash body with a walnut top offers cool looks backed up by rugged construction. The rugged 5-piece maple and bubinga thru-neck creates stronger, more dedicated tone. Exaggerated cutaways make upper-fret access effortless. The U-shaped neck profile, 19-11/16" radius, and 1-7/8" nut assure that playing your bass stays comfortable as you run your hand up and down its 24 frets. The 35" neck scale provides superior articulation-ideal for low tunings. Quad-coil exclusively designed Bartolini MK-2 pickups are balanced for tone and plenty of sizzle. The Ibanez BTB675 bass' neck pickup's tone is ultra-deep, balancing well with a bright bridge pickup for an evenly proportioned overall mix. Die-cast tuners, cosmo black hardware, and a flat finish round out the iIbanez BTB675 5-string bass guitar's features to make it truly is work of the luthier's art. Collection or meet up preferred (I'm in South Yorkshire). I can supply a beaten up old hard case, but trust me it really is beat up.

I recently bought a pair of these and absolutely love 'em 😁. https://www.pmtonline.co.uk/vox-amphones-bass-guitar-monitoring-headphones?utm_source=google&utm_medium=shopping&gclid=COrNjJegjtMCFQ4R0wodV3MHVw Plug your MP3 player into the the aux socket and away you go. Perfect for learning new material for my new covers band without annoying the neighbours (or the wife).

Good man. There are many bargains to be had out there!
Would those vintage amps still have 1/4 jacks if Speakons had existed?
No, but that doesn't make them any less capable.

Sold a couple of cabs to Andy. Great communication, prompt payment and a jolly nice bloke to boot. Had a good old natter about all things Trace. Trade with confidence.
They also had Bulgin connectors for the mains lead, but no-one in their right minds would want that nowadays.
Perhaps not, but suggesting that professional, highly regarded kit is no longer 'serious' because of technological advances seems a little harsh. Just to further elaborate/labour the point, I've played hundreds of gigs through a variety of amp/speaker connections. At no point can I ever remember accidentally pulling out a 1/4" jack plug out from my amp/speaker or thinking the speak-on connection sounds far superior to a jack connection. Mrs & Mrs Average punter usually can't tell the difference between basses, cabs or amps so I'm pretty sure they're not going to turn their collective noses up if they were to find out that a cab had been connected via the lesser spotted jack plug.
Some 'Old People' pass-times I've noticed are; Driving very slowly, especially during rush hour. Paying for the weekly shop in 2p pieces. Asking for a full ingredients and cooking process breakdown whilst ordering a pub lunch. These all look like splendid fun.
😂

Swapping a Trace combo head out for an AH model? Done :-)
Deedee replied to Deedee's topic in Amps and Cabs
Well, just in case anybody was interested......... all done 😁. Just a bit of intense measuring, followed by nervous drilling as the SM head (and my SMX) have side mounted fixing screws and the combo has top mounted. Well chuffed with it. Next, I'll do the same with the old Series 6 head and mount that in its new sleeve for safe keeping. -
Dan Dare-Thanks for advice, something to consider. A 4 ohm cab would be more desirable than 8 ohm. Would a AH 300 GP7SM be happy to run into a single 4 ohm cab?
You'll be fine. I've played all of my TE heads through 4ohm BF cabs for several years. Either one 4ohm or two 8ohms. As per the previous post though, no lower than 4ohms 👀
IMO any amp rated at over 100W that does not use Speakon connectors is not a serious piece of kit.
I think users of 'serious' older amps would strongly disagree

Classic mid-nineties Trace Elliot cabs £65 each or take both for £120 1153 1 x 15" speaker 200 watts 8 ohm Original vinyl cover 2103h 2 x 10" speakers plus horn 200 watts 8 ohm Original vinyl cover These have the original grey pimple tolex covering which is in pretty good condition, a couple of scuffs/tears here and there. There are also some scuffs on the heavy duty steel grills and the corners and handles have tarnished. The vinyl covers are a little tatty but fully functional. Basically a pair of well used but not abused cabs that will sound like thunder and (paired with almost any amp) will give you a great rig for next to nothing. Collection/meet up only please. I'm in South Yorkshire but do love a motorway services meet up (😳 Ooh matron that just sounds wrong). Apologies for the pics being the wrong way around 😟 When will I learn!

I'm toying with the idea of swapping the amp out of my Series 6 1215 combo and putting an AH250 SMX or 200 SM in instead. The size is correct but are there any issues in mounting a different amp? Has anybody else done it? Just to explain my reasoning. I like the 1215 size as it's easier to handle than the usual wider TE combos. Also, I miss the added features that the SM and SMX amps have (EQ balance for example).

I'm glad that the difficulty of singing whilst playing bass is a 'recognised' issue, although non-bass players do still throw in the old 'well Macca could do it' statement. It is extremely frustrating that I can play and sing over some lines that may sound quite intricate/difficult, while other really simple bass lines create huge issues purely because of their timing. I used to be in a 3 piece where I would share lead vocals with the guitarist and drummer. As per a previous post, if we chose a song to cover we would see who could sing it best with the least detriment to their playing. There are many songs that I could happily sing lead vocal on, but I really do struggle singing BVs on some of those same songs. It's all down to the timing and I know that I need to practice, practice, practice before I get any better at it.
the biggest 'disappointment' with this type of crowd pleasing covers band scenario is sometimes the band themselves and their lack of imagination or creative input in curating their setlist yes, there are a handful of staples which the crowd will expect yes you could do the lazy thing of looking at band discographys on itunes/spotify etc and just pick your entire setlist from the top one or two most popular if you want to be different maybe try and pick the tunes which everybody knows and likes but arent always at the top of the list and hence are much less often covered by other covers bands - what you're aiming for is those songs where people be all like ... ooh ooh ooh i really like this iknow this one what is it what is it and get all unnecessarily excited as their memory fails them all the way up until the chorus result you still end up playing TRITE OLD sh*te but its not the same TRITE OLD sh*te as all the other local TRITE OLD sh*te bands and the punters hopefully enjoy themselves and leave the gig with the impression of you being 'a bit different from all the other cover bands around here' hope this helps
I agree. The trick is to play songs that people will know, but don't necessarily hear very often.
I play in a covers band on the pub circuit. The best part of any gig for me is when we play 'crowdpleasers', when everyone is up singing and dancing. (If I had my way every song we play would be a crowdpleaser but a sizeable chunk of our set is songs that the various band members like but are bordering on the obscure. I'm opposed to this but that's a different thread...) Very few of the crowdpleasers we play are songs that I would choose to listen to at home but if the punters like them that's good enough for me. Granted, Sex On Fire et al have been done to death but to see a crowd explode when the intro kicks in is priceless. Give me that any day over some album track that's everyone's cue to go out for a fag. Happy punters equals more beer sold equals more gigs.
Agree 100%. For me the landlord is paying us to entertain the punters. The payback for us is playing to a bouncing crowd. The best feeling and personally why I love playing.
