1.
It's just arrived at my house
Congratulations. Does it sound as good as it looks?
 2. Hi all I bought this from the forum a couple of months back but again, it's not being used so it's got to go. I'm just looking to get back what I paid for it. These are great amps,

2 channels (tube and FET),
600 watts at 4 ohms
375 watts at 8 ohms
Built in selectable signal shapes - Low Frequency Boost, Mid Scoop, High Frequency Attack
Complete with footswitch
Extremely lightweight
Now this amp is not in the best cosmetic condition, hence the bargain price. There are various dents and scratches on the casing and the master volume knob appears to have taken a knock at some point leaving it slightly bent. The only other fault I could find with the amp is that the clip light on the Tube channel doesn't appear to be working. Operationally the amp is absolutely fine and is very flexible. There's no case or bag for the amp, but I have made a pair of rack ears which will be supplied with it so it can go straight in to a 2U 19" rack/rack case. Collection/meet up preferable (I'm in South Yorkshire) but I will post at buyers expense.
 3. Hi all Well this isn't being played at the moment so it's up for grabs. Purchased brand new from Electro Music approx September last year, my beautiful Premier Dealer Network ltd edition Stingray in Neptune Blue with a stunning roasted maple neck. These basses really are stunning. The roasted maple neck is wonderful to play and looks amazing. It's a Mahogany body and very light for a Stingray, probably the lightest I've owned (and I've had a few). Comes in immaculate condition with the OHSC and all the case candy that came with it. I've plenty more photographs available on request. I'm based in South Yorkshire and would prefer a meet up/collection ideally. No offers on this one please, if it doesn't go for this price, it isn't going. No trades thanks.
 4.
i may be wrong but dont the Hexavalve's only run at 4 or 2 ohms? If thats right you wont be able to use your 8 ohm cab without destroying the amp
Is this correct? I've been advised by several people (including the chap I've bought it off) that the Hexa will run into an 8 ohm cab providing that the switch is set to 4 ohms. If it was set to 2 ohms, it would kill the head, but set to 4 ohms it would be fine. There's an interesting thread on Talkbass which states the same I.e. as long as you're no more than 100% out (e.g. set to 4 but running into an 8 ohm cab) it will be fine. I'm going to be switching back to a 4 ohm, one cab solution anyway, but just for my own knowledge any further opinions on this would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
 5. Hi all I love my Gen 3 Big Baby 2 but an incoming valve beast means I need to switch to a 4 ohm, one cab solution. So sadly, this is now for sale (no trades thanks). It's in superb as new condition, sounds amazing and comes with a padded cover. All the specs here: http://barefacedbass.com/product-range/Big-Baby-2.htm As usual, a meet up/collection preferred. I'm in South Yorkshire. Cheers
 6. Looks like I'll be going back to a 4 ohm Super 12 then!
 7.
Superb! Nice one fella.. My only advice would be as the same as any other valve amp: A:) Make sure it's connected to the correct load so for example if you're working at 4 ohm, make sure it's on the 4 ohm tap. Some amps tolerate it better than others but the output valves / transformer prefer to work at their correct loads. B:) Have it checked over by a competant tech from time to time as old components can drift out of value and electrolytic filter caps dry out over time both of which will have a detrimental effect on the sonics of the amp. C:) Valves wear out over time and proportionally to how hard you use them so budget for that - 6 x KT88 / 6550 aren't cheap! Try different brands and models as each have their own sonic signature. When it does come time to change it's probably best to have a tech do this if you have no experience so he can re-bias the amp although something is telling me, the older Trace amps had a fixed / none adjustable bias. Again, a competent tech will be able to mod the amp to make it adjustable if it's already been done. Lastly, enjoy it! I'll eat my hat if you don't like it..
Many thanks for that. Just to clarify, I'm not going to do anything horrific to the head if I plug into my 8 ohm Big Baby 2 am I ? 😧
 8. Just to give you guys an update, I've this afternoon pushed the button on a Hexavalve so once it arrives, I'll let you know how I get on. In the mean time, if there are any specific tips and tricks regarding one of these particular old heads, please let me know. πŸ™‚
 9. I think I'm going to have to scratch this itch and get myself one of these bad boys πŸ˜‹
 10. Bugger. Just missed out on this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/222067448929 Asked the seller a question and half hour later it had ended. Is it anyone here by any chance??
 11. Hmmm. Proceed with caution then. Maybe once the rose tinted specs have been removed and the weight, size and reliability factors kick in, I'd be looking for something different. Seems to be a great number of these amps gathering dust or only being used occasionally. πŸ˜•
 12.
Get a back brace
Haha. Good, practical advice.
 13. I'm a big fan of Trace Elliot solid state heads. I have owned several and currently have 2 SMX heads with the valve preamp. However, I have never owned an all valve head of any type. My obvious choice would be to go for an all valve Trace, such as a V-type or quatra or hexa but the problem is, I know next to nothing about them. What are the features, what are the pros and cons between models? Any guidance or advice would be greatly appreciated.
 14.
Almost.......... I have a Gen 3 Big Baby 2 currently and used to use a Genz Shuttle 9.2. and am also selling a MB Fusion! Also using Stingrays so its a pretty relevant comparison.......... Bought the Fusion to replace the Genz as i found the Genz a bit sterile sounding. The Fusion was much more to my taste and has a lot more headroom - the Genz began to run out of steam and the Gallien just has much more grunt about it. Its also a lot more flexible tonewise - use channel B to thicken up the sound and channel A for a more modern clean sound - clearer but not brittle really. PM me if you need more detailed info or are interested in buying the Fusion - its in the classifieds now
Haha, to be honest it was your ad that prompted the question πŸ˜‰
 15. I recently picked up a ShuttleMax 6 and it's rather nice with plenty of features, but prior to this I was on the look out for a GK Fusion 500 as i'd heard good things about them. Has anybody owned/used both and if so how do they compare? I'd be running them into a Barefaced Gen 3 Big Baby 2 (8 ohms).
 16. I've been known to drive to Cantrell Road with my Barefaced cab in the boot if that helps πŸ˜‰
 17.
I really enjoy playing, and I'm sure that it shows on my face. I'm buggered, therefore, to explain why in every single photo my face looks like this: The next time someone says "it takes more energy to frown than it does to smile" will get the Bill Hicks answer - "It takes more energy to point that out than it does to leave me the f*** alone! Now why don't you walk away and see me start to really smile"
πŸ˜‚ I just might use that one
 18.
Why not grab the mic and tell them all to stop staring at you because it's putting you off. That should fix it. jk.

Telling that you suffer from a non gender specific variant of RBF (resting bitch face)

I constantly smile whilst on stage when the singer doesn't forget the song format, the guitarist isn't retuning AGAIN and the drummer doesn't slow down. So, a couple of times a night at least.
All of the above
 19. I think that's the concern. I genuinely thought I was making an effort last night. Leg/foot tapping away, smiling and laughing occasionally when the other band members looked over, singing along (when I could). I'll keep working on it.
 20.
If someone asks me that I just say nothing while glaring intensely at them. Remember to hold the glare as they're walking away to really hammer the point home.
πŸ˜‚ Maybe this one
 21.
I feel that I should direct you here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/281069-is-this-you/
πŸ˜‚ Perhaps not going that far
 22. Hi all Had another storming gig last night. Place was full, everybody rocking, good night all round. However, had someone come up to me again and ask 'why don't you smile on stage, you look like you don't want to be there?'. Now I have had this said many times before, usually it's 'why do you look like you're about to jump off stage and hit somebody?'. People who know me know that I'm a pretty fun loving guy who enjoys a good laugh, but it really is starting to concern me that punters who haven't seen us before just think 'it's that band with the miserable bass player'. I do try to show that I'm enjoying myself, it's just that I'm blessed with one of those faces which has a default look of disinterest! Mean and moody, I'm doing very well. Any tips?
 23.
Nice one.....you could never accuse a Ray of being a coffee table!
πŸ˜‚ Oops, too soon πŸ‘€
 24.
Looks sweet D. Does that mean the Wal will be left on the stand a bit ;-) Still miss my old lacquered 1989 Ray, I wish I could go back a few years and slap my younger self out of the decision to sell that beautiful ray and buy a Warwick.....
The Wal had to go a few months back. It was being left on the wall as a very expensive ornament :-( I think this bad boy's back to being the main weapon of choice - starting at rehearsal tonight!
