1.
Looks ace, mine was done over a year ago & I still catch myself looking at it like a teenage boy checking out the French teachers arse :-p
😂 Haha
2. Well after a few weeks away with Jon Shuker, I yesterday picked up my Black and Maple 3 band with it's beautifully refinished tinted gloss neck. The neck had at some point in it's past had an oil refinish which seemed to have reacted badly with something as there was a 'tacky' feel to it that couldn't be removed. Horizontalste of this parish had posted pictures of his refinished neck so it was a no brainer. I've always loved the look and feel of gloss necks/boards so off to Jon Shuker it went. I must say I'm absolutely stunned at the quality of the work carried out, the finish is stunning. What was a pretty bland looking pale maple neck and board has now been brought to life with the new finish really drawing out the detail in the wood. I've tried to capture it in the photographs but as you know, it's difficult to capture that almost 3D hologram effect as the light catches the wood. If anyone else is considering the same work, I cannot recommend Jon highly enough. He's a magician! (Sorry that the pics aren't rotated, I was losing the will to live trying to sort them out)
3. Picking it up Saturday. Can't wait to see it 😍. Photos to follow
4. The D.i. on my Zoom B3 would do the job if anything went on the amp or cab. No back line monitoring would take some getting used to though 😕
5. Just spotted this on FB: PLEASE SHARE STOLEN My wal bass and vintage ( not Gibson) les Paul were stolen from outside firth park WMC on Saturday night Both are pretty distinctive The les Paul has the toggle switch nut missing so is loose Any info please call mik 07562987630
6. Sold a GK neo cab to Steve. We arranged a date and half way services meet up, duly met up and had a quick chat about all things bass. Top fella, great communication throughout. Trade with confidence :-)
7. Well got the ears sorted and I'm very happy with the result 🙂. Gator GRS2 case and a set of overly long rack ears from eBay. Just for the record if anybody else is looking to do the same, the ears need cutting down to leave 70mm each side.
8. Jazzes for me. I love the look of them, love the sound of them but I just can't get on with them. Always felt like I was playing somebody else's bass. Also Warwick Thumb. I used to drool over them 25 years ago. A friend of a friend was selling an '89 last year so he lent it me for a few days. How disappointed was I. It felt awkward and uncomfortable with no redeeming features as far as I was concerned. I was so gutted 😟
9.
I bought my Genz Benz heads in 2013 & 2014 and the rack ears were really hard to find even then. I eventually sourced a set from the USA, probably one of the last new sets available. That said they should not be too hard to fabricate. Good luck.
I've ordered a pair of 140mm deep rack ears to butcher :-) The plan is to fix the short front returns (the returns that would normally fix to the sides of the rack) to the sides of the amp, then cut the 'ears' down to size and drill new fixing holes to mount them onto the front sides of the rack.
10. I think I'm going to go for one of the gator cases. Looking at the hens teeth availability of the proper Genz rack ears, I think I'll be making my own!
11.
I bought two Trace Elliot amps. I bought the second one because I'd forgotten why I sold the first one. Now I've sold both of them, I'm hoping I'll remember not to buy any more.
Harsh. Funny but harsh
12.
Yes, it depends on how you want the bass to make you feel when you plug it in. 2-band: "Mmmm, nice ..." 3-band: "Whoah, f**k yeah!" I prefer the "Whoah, f**k yeah!" feeling myself, but YMMV.
Same here. 3 band for me!
13. Yep, I saw it on FB prior to here too. Curse long distance, collection only deals 😟
14. I had a similar problem on my 2003 MM Stingray. Played fine for a while then felt sticky. I tried everything to clean it but talc was the only thing that worked (although only as a temporary fix). So I bit the bullet and it's now away with Jon Shuker having a refinish in tinted gloss.
15. Here's my rig from last night. Barefaced Big Baby 2 gen 3 on its first outing with my AH250SMX. The ideal combination of an old School Trace head paired with a lightweight cab. It sounded superb!
16. Great review, very interesting for those of us who've never dipped a toe in the Marshall gear pool.
17. I have one of the earlier versions of these (with just the black Vintage decal on the headstock). It was formerly a 'jam night' bass and as such has a few battle scars but it plays beautifully. What I did change was the preamp, as the original was pretty poor with the treble pot doing next to nothing. I bought a Zolkow 3 band preamp off here for £25 and got a pal to fit it. I now have one pot as a coil tap, volume, a stacked bass/treble and a mid. It really does give the bass some real power and it certainly holds up against my 3 band Stingrays.
18. Thanks for the suggestions guys. Does anybody have one mounted in a rack case?
19. Well my new purchase arrived today, a nice but slightly battered Genz shuttle max 6. Question is, does anybody have one of these mounted in a rack case? Or could recommend a particular case that would do the job?
20. I agree that AC and U2 get unfairly slated. When I started playing some of the first songs i learnt were from The Joshua Tree or Rattle & Hum. As previous posts have stated, the bass fits the songs and works well. I think it just becomes fashionable to slate mega successful bands - Coldplay have had the same treatment. If you don't like them, fair enough, but there's no need to slate them.
21. Bought an amp and cab from Jamie after we came to a deal on a 'bundle' purchase. Both items exactly as described and very well packaged. Great communication throughout. Great chap to deal with, trade with confidence. Many thanks again
