I play with loads of different tunings. I use a 5 string. Sometimes I detune sometimes I don't, mostly depending on the need to use the open D, Slither being a good example of when I do detune. My preference is to not detune where possible though.

I use an alesesis multimix and a reaper. works fine

What a fantastic place BC is, a Christmas tale to warm your cockles

Is the bass any good for metal? Merry xmas one and all -
That must be it then. Will have to try my Mackie spike then. Hey ho. Two steps forward one step back.

I have tried installing all the drivers available. The laptop tells me I need 64 bit drivers, but this still wont work as reaper goes increadibly jumpy. Anyone got any suggestions?

It may be worth approaching the venue and asking them if you can have the bar for free, or a contribution from the venue if they have a good night. Never hurts to ask and also looks like you are confident on having good attendance.

You don't have to play what the guitarists play

The third stage was drowning Maiden out. I wondered if sharon osbourne had come over and turned them down again

I am more than happy with the Barefaced Cabs. I bought the compact a few years ago second hand and it had had a tough life already and I have only ever used it on "rediculously loud" playing in a loud heavy metal band and not going through the PA but still loud enough to have a strong presence in the mix. I suspect someone who plays at a sensible level would notice the difference in sound but I haven't neither has anyone at any of our gigs. I get the bit about more surface area which makes a lot of sense. I get the new amp on boxing day so will report back.
-
I will be there. Strong line up but more than a bit predicatable. Great festival and much less walking than download ;-) I remember the mud lake from the last year it ran, what a fun night that was.

I want a low A. The Cab is still functioning perfectly fine and there is no percieved drop in performance or tone. I am pushing the Jeff Berlin combo to it's max. The sound is very good and I want amazing and more volume available should I need it. I bought the S12 to complement the compact and a PF500, but they can't work together so am trying a GK2001rb. I know a bass player who swears by the GK head and knows everything about it so I will get him around to help me out. Have heard him play and he cuts through as clean as a whistle so should be plenty of tonal goodness.
-
Oh, I see what you mean. Hmmmm, I just want tight punch lows that cut through. I am sure the kit will do this anyway. I think the GK comes with a "special" speakon to amp the tweeter in GK cabs, which won't work with the S12 (as it doesn't have a tweeter and wouldn't even if it did) Maybe I will just use the GK with the S12 with the compact for more density at bigger gigs.
-
I don't have the GK yet but yep am looking at just sending the lows as I believe it has a bi amp. When it blew it was quite funny as it literally just kept pouring out the air vent. Sorry didn't take any pics at the time and hurried out the venue to let them clear it up ;-)

Yep, I have one of these and got the fault light at rehearsal. Its going back to ampeg gonna take a lot to get the confidence up to gig with it!!!! Ampeg are doing themselves no favours by alowing this to still be sold. It has a great tone (IMHO) but reliability has to be more important and this is damaging their reputation.
-
I thought the Compact would be more than man enough to take the low A. It currently does when paired with my Jeff Berlin combo. I am picking up a GK 2001rb and was looking to use it with a S12 and Compact. Can I exepect and issues? Ta Mike
-
I have pushed it pretty hard and will push it harder still with a more powerful amp, plus will be a bi amp with the compact expected to take the lows. I'm going sub sonic.
-
At a recent gig some foam wadding from my mark 1 Compact blew all over the stage. It looked like it had been snowing, and was rather humourous. I haven't particularly noticed any change in sound but am likely to be moving to a more powerful amp in the near future and was wondering could this actually be important to performance or is it just damping??? And could not having it be damaging the cab? Ta in advance Mike

For me Cheesey is when you do a predicatable song, and do a sloppy version the same as the band who played there last week just because you know the crowd will like it. If you do a great version then it loses the cheese factor. There are a lot of sloppy bands out there. I have played in some of them ;-) Cheese isn't necessarily bad but it is cheese ;-)

Bought it S/H off a BC member and have sent him an email to see if it is in warranty. Great amp for someone who is not a volume monster.
-
Have a markbass Jeff Berlin and it is not the tone I want but it does have the volume.
-
I was only using the S12, which should have been fine. It was loud and cutting through amazingly well. No smoke and came back on with no problems, so the protection circuit was obviously working which is good, but not at the loud volume I occaisionally need to not worry about cutting out.
-
Just checked earlier thread and Compact is 8 ohm S12 is 4 ohm. Crap that my amp says a fault after just a little hard use. Hmmmm not sure what to do now. Tone was really good though.
-
Yep, was plenty loud and had more to go but it overheated. I believe the S12 is 2 Ohm but could well be wrong although I was told not to run it with the compact at the same time with the PF500 due to the lowering of impedence?
-
OK here we go. At auditions last night looking for a new shredder trying the S12 and PF500 the "fault" light came on, which I presume was over heating. At least it faulted and didn't blow smoke everywhere and started working 30 seconds later. I am presuming this is as it is 2ohms and the PF is built for 4 ohms. I was really happy with the tone, was exactly what I am looking for. So my situation is I want to use a S12 and have the option of adding a compact if I need extra volume or stage presence ;-) Is there an amp out there that can power both cabs at the same time all day long, maybe with a biamp??? Any suggestions welcome, I will be looking in the sub £1k department so do not need a super boutique thing ;-) Ta Mike
