(I agree though, a positive thread is what is needed) I like the guys/lass in my band too, even if it is only a covers thing. its good fun and makes me look forward to saturday. and I dont "sigh" when I pick up the case ( I used to ) I met them through BassChat too!! so all is good. 10.
A pair of 727's in good working order should still be worth in the region of £100. I paid something like that for my pair about a year ago. Check eBay for recent completed listings. Don't restrict yourself to 727's, but also check out similar speakers in the Mission range. Before you flog 'em, you might want to listen to 'em. They really are awesome, old-school speakers. I use mine in my studio and they're good enough for the band to play along with when we're working up new covers to play.
I was kind of thinking that Jack, they do appear awesome, and if the wieght (alone) of that quad amp is anything to go by its gonna be good stuff (prehaps I'll try evil bay but thanks for your help chaps) I dunno maybe just give my friend a decent offer, just dont know what that would be though ( Shes a very good friend I want to see right you see) W
 11. I just dot know priceing MB1 thats why I'm asking anyone with an offer that befits a gentleman can have this stuff all in ( collection preferrred though)
 12. Oh I forgot to mention there are some stands the speakers. Thanks Dood and Mat P for info as I say this sale (if anyone wants them!!) is for a friend and we dont have much Idea. allthough from what you guys have found the speakers are worth the £50 mark as a package though? what does that QED switcher thing do then?
 13. Thats what this stuff looks like anyone whos intrested, lots of good quality speaker cable as well though the "black" commector on one side does need replacing. So thats it, any Idead on price chaps? I'm in Rochdale BTW
 14. will post some pics soonest, there are some stands that go with these ( my computer is playing up a little bit just now but I'll post some bits soon as) sure its quality kit though
 15. I have some of these for sale on behalf of a friend, cant give too much detail,as they are boxed up and but would great home studio monitors, can any one give me an Idea what they are worth? pretty clueless (pics to follow) they could come supplied with a Quad amp but again pics to follow. I'm a bit rubbish at this stuff so e bay isnt an option!! just wanted to pick the basschat collective mind! apparently Mission was as name back inthe 80's (anyone know?)

That's OK - you're perfectly entitled to be wrong. That's a joke by the way ! Perhaps we've just seen different bands.
Toche Mr Bassy, or should I call you by your proper title, Count? ( J for joke here too!)
 17.
There's a non-sequitur here. There are bands that play the original lines and arrangements but are still crap, and there are brilliant bands that 'do their own thing'. The two classifactions, i.e. Crap/Good and Original/Non-original, are not intrinsically linked.
no there isnt, and no there are not. there are however just good bands out there
 18.
There's no need for anyone to justify why they do things the way they do. If you want to copy the fine detail - fine. If you don't - fine. If you can't be arsed - fine. If you're just beginning - fine. If you've done a thousand gigs - fine. There's no right or wrong here - just an interest in other people's approach.
Dr Dave has it right here and I'm sorry I hadn't thought it through a bit more, think hes right on this one,I think I'm right about learning the tune (for your bog standard pub covers band ) but take Dr Daves point, its horses for corses. Charic must be making Victor Wooten sweat though!!
 19.
Do it better is mine
wow!! you must be Really good
 20.
Local covers band down the pub are generally the most likely to be playing it 'in their own way'-how many times do you hear a band play a pop 'hit' in a rock style (which I usually think is horrible)? Ignoring that though,it is still possible to play a song right without playing it exactly.
Hmmm, it is. I'm just talking about getting it right, and "in their own way" is often an awfull kak-handed and shoddy approach. its the way of things.
 21.
-1 I learn the original and keep the bits I like the rest becomes my own
Sorry,Cant agree, do it properly is my thing
 22.
Yes, I live for all the subtleties, exactly like you highlighted. Most bands do half-arsed versions of most covers, in my humble opinion of course. I see quite a few bands that don't even bother to put in the 'B' in the verse for She Sells Sanctuary for instance.
or play a D in chorus of "All right now" Jezzuz its in A!!
 23.
Interestingly,I've spoken to a number of people on all instruments who claim to play exactly what's on the recording and they never do. Personally,it depends on a few things-if you want me to learn a whole set in a few day it's going to be close but not exact, but all the important bits will be there. If you want it to be specific, write it out. If I'm playing a regular gig,it might start out being spot on but it will generally evolve over time, but again, the important stuff will still be there. It's not about not being arsed to learn things properly-more that everyone has their own 'thing'.Darryl Jones plays differently than Bill Wyman. Sean Hurley plays differently than Pino Palladino.'Ready' Freddie plays differently than Chuck Rainey. Neil Jason plays differently to Will Lee.Brian Ray plays differently than Paul McCartney. They might be playing the same songs, but there are always going to be differences in the ways that they approach and play their parts.
No, no, no, there is a question of "degree" involved here Mr Doddy, if its the lofty heights of Pino Palladino interpreting John Entwistle lines then there is a point to be made about "my version". but come on, local covers band down the "Dog and Duck" ? just play it right otherwise its just an annoyance.
 24.
I have a simple approach to this. If the bandleader wants me to play a song once, he either supplies the dots or he gets a 'near as damn it/flying by the seat of my pants/never heard the original anyway' approximation. I play in one covers band and have held the gig for about 3 years. We play a range of covers from 60s to now and I have never heard the originals of most of the tunes and those I have heard I heard years ago once or twice and have certainly never worked on them. We have never had anyone come up to any of us and say 'that bass part was wrong' but this is probably because they are SO wrong that it is obvious we are not trying to play them right When I do shows, every note is written down and the product is 100% accurate. To expect people to learn every nuance of a cover when they are working in several bands/situations in between gigs is pretty naive.
so you're in the "cant be arsed to learn it" camp then.
 25. "own stamp" or "my version" often means "I cant be arsed" to learn it properly Just a thought (dons tin hat) W
