3.
+1 I can remember seeing Janek playing for the first time (at one of the Bass days) and while I was impressed with his technical ability when he came to the end of one of his pieces and asked for questions I was sorely tempted to enquire who played bass in his band...
class!
 4. This type of stuff takes me back (& indulge me if you will) to "A" level english literature (you know, when it was hard to get a good grade) at a mere 17 summers old...... .....reading Jane Austen or a more obscure (for a good reason) Shakespeare play (eg,Titus and Andronicus) or sonnet. It was mind meltingly& dull thunderously boring..yet we, as students felt we weren't allowed to say that out loud, because doing so meant we'd be regarded as "thickies who just dont get the genius of the author" well I do "get it" Im just not enjoying it. same for this type of thing enjoyed on one level (wish I could play that fast ect ect...) but really?.......a bit dull opps!! W
 5. GUYS,GUYS, have some mercy....leave him alone........!!! .....(for a few days)

 11. The status I was talking about the other day, which is it again Rich? its lovley!! & sounds Monster, really does! a keeper ( if a bit roadworn) Ill vote for that one!
 12. Manchester based news programme "north west tonight" Granada region had a quick item about a guitar Peter Hook will be using on his "free bass" tour with Andy Rouke and Mani. on TV tonight Basically, its a semi accoustic modeled on his new order "love will tear us apart" type of bass but the body had this really great "police/hazard back&yellow tape, finish, that was the same as what was put round the posts on the Hacienda dance floor. remember? not usually my cup of tea bass wise but looked ACE (imo) the real bonus was that the luthier (Brian ....errr Brian...err... oh... sorry forgot the surname! sorry!!) has used original wood salvaged from the Hac's real dance floor (how cool is that?) so what people danced on, will how doubt make people dance. good story eh? W
 13.
I got home, lifted it out of the Van, and the Wife said "Oh, isn't it a pretty one?" SCORE! Nice to meet you, Steve.
ya bugger ya! good luck AL!!
 14.
Mine's older than yours (1986) and the active is definitley "offable"! I quite like the passive tone too, which is just another string to its bow...
hows it offable? I havent got a switch, just rotary pots...so.....? if you can be bothered there a picture of it within the musicman porn thread, my name,so as I say how do I make it passive? no switches, just pots......wont work without batteries if it makes it sound like a P bass dont worry about it ,thats not for me anymore. thanks for "Brain pick" though thanks to MR C W
 15.
Erm..I've got a Status, but I've found its better without the active on.My amp seems to prefer the passive input.
I'll try that.... thanks for the heads up. although mine being an old one I dont think the active is "onoffable" (!)
 16. likewise to the above if (unlikley) they dont sell after a couple of months let me know

 19. ...... My Status, changed the batteries and put some new strings on my ('88-I think) status for last nights Jig. I'd been using my stingray exclusivley for 6 months+ and got used to it, and still love it, but plugging in the Status and thumping a low E.......DDAANNNGGGGGG!!!!! ( go away and have a bite, that'll still be going) god, it literally shocked me how good it sounded!! I'd forgotten. I half expect "out to play jazz" to post an "I told you so" message and he'd be right to. apologies if this sounds smug ( Ive got Status ner ner ner ner ner...type of thing) its just Faaaaak me they are good basses! I thought If anyone out there is thinking of buying one and having any doubts. doubt no longer, buy it. state of the art kit, despite the not for everyone '80s look. another bass player made himself known, just to say how good/livley it sounded (not my kakhanded playing, just the bass) now, that doesn't happen a lot does it? W
 20. What could have been a tremendous moment for Muse seems to have turned into a "crash & burn" judging by what folk are saying here. Ive not seen it (yet) but it must have been bad, as I thought most BCers would want Muse to succeed. bad one Is what I posted on the glastonbury hate thread.... If I had 5 satus (staii?) I'd play 'em all in one night if Id got someone to pack them away for me!
 21.
Have you looked at a PG58? Extremely similar mic for about half the price, fine for live BV's and suchlike. And you get a really tough cable with it!
do "shure" make them? Im very old fashioned.... dont you know!! may be I'll just go to see AndyTravis at work....he da man!! but still...any one?....you're all at gigs arnt you!! will bump on monday good point Ian, about the shennheiser option...good call just dont want any thing in that price range with a crappy on/off switch KWIM? dont forget stand(s) folks!!

 23. Its been quite the week for bad news hasn't it?
 24.
I agree with the fact that guitarists can play bass, because as a guitarist myself I can play.. ish! However, what many guitarists lack is the idea of space and playing roots and not twiddling around the 9th fret playing a fast pentatonic riff constantly when it's wildly out of context when playing bass, but that's just a practice and experience thing.
You're spot on there T, in fact there's a whole thread dedicated to the fact bass playing is context specific and best left to the experts, who have disipline and patience, and that chaps who are guitar players first just dont quite "get it". cant remember its title though. "context specific and best left to the experts, who have disipline and patience" hhmmm sounds like Im talking about bomb defusal dosen't it? god I really can be an ars£/tw@t at times
 25.
The Stones 'Sympathy for The Devil' has Keef playing on bass. Bill Wyman is relegated to maracas.
True but wasnt "vituoso" playing was It? Keef?.....Gaahh!! Bill, if allowed, could have done, the what?8 to 16 notes required...in fact, so could a trained gibbon "oowwh oowwh oowwh, the funky gibbon,....the funky gibbon" the goodies, circa 1974
