2.
Hi, I though I posted this last night, but I can't see it anywhere. Probly closed BC down while in the preview page . . d'oh! So, even though I don't have Flea's fingers and GK rig, I'm sure I'll still be able to get something similar to his tone on Alanis' You Oughta Know. I'm guessing it's on the back pick-up, bass rolled off & mids boosted, with plenty of damping with the left & right hand fingers? Our new girl singer is pretty good, and I know the rest of the band will have nailed their parts for this, so any help is apreciated . . . Thanks, Mark
I think its probably a stingray with everything on 11 fleasters will most likeley correct me though. Ive played it that way and it sounds authentic especially for the growly type of string pop midway through fun to play eh? bit of a bass showboater!
 3. how are all what,30?( ) of you gonna fit in Alexanders? I seem to remember, if Ive got the right place, a 4 peice blues turn I was in, found it a bit cramped!! may turn up for that one BTW

 5. whats PSP!!?!! is it that "some bloke, someone else and palladino" thing Ive seen on another thread? Dr Evil: "chuck me a frikken bone here."
 6.
This week someone send me an excellent download of a PSP concert with Palladino.. I've been studying Pino's style for more than twenty years now and he still amazes me. While listening to the PSP tracks (with several bass-solo's on his fretless) I thought to myself that he's just getting better. It rarely happens but I had to turn it off because I got really depressed. It wasn't so much the technique but just the choice of notes and the lyrical aspect. The nice vibrato, just stay a little longer on the same note, add a nice chord and overall he plays so adventurous while keeping the groove. He is one of the best bass players ever, sometimes hard to accept for scratching chickens like myself but he is truly blessed.
100% agreement there. whats PSP? BTW? with fretless solos?! gotta get me some of that, send it to ME TOO!!!
 7.
Know just how you feel guys, but it's caveat emptor. Especially on eBay.
Right! ......errr.....what? (bet Im not the only non latin fluent bass chat member) huh huh huh he said "member" huh hhuh ect...............
 8. "Thats That".... is that what he says to himself at the end? love "the sweedish chef" possibly the best and only Italian/welsh bass legend ever. Pino, he da Man!

 10. Whats' all this talk of chops? pork or the lamb?.....see.. you gotta have a system.
 11. The machine heads on a 20 year old stingray I have are very tarnished looking. is it possible to get them back to new looking? they work fine just look a bit tatty,KWIM? any ideas ladies and gentlemen? W
 12.
Are you referring to the head? It has one 8 ohm output so you can drive one 8 ohm cab or two 16 ohm cabs in parallel or two 4 ohm cabs in series. If it's the combo you can only use the internal speaker. Hope that helps
No its a head MR M so I can't link 2 8 ohm cabs in a chain fashion safely then? (thanks) 1 output as you say btw
 13. My guru, all things bass, MB1, says: a 100w commando amp head can only power one T/E cab and "daisy chaining" another is probably not a good idea as it will push it too far...I know he's allways right but any thoughts.. tech people? W
 14.
You could check on this site http://myweb.ecomplanet.com/TOWN8019/mycustompage0028.htm, my estimation given your Serial No. 29838 is that the bass could dated between 89/90, are the first 2 letters BO before the number? I.e. BO29838 ? If so, that is as accurate as it should be. Also if you lift the control plate moon shape thing with the volume and eq knobs you should be able to find a sticker on the pot with a date. Or just send an email with some pics to the webmaster (his name is Gav) he could give you a more accurate placement. The email address is: [email protected] Oh and do show us some pics, will ya?
Pics on musicman porn thread page 17 I think Im not one for messing with electrics cos Im so clumsy but info very much appreciated!!
 15. thanks guys!! EDIT: oh yeah Ed...... did'nt read my own post properly!!!! Im a bit older than 7 !!!! good point well presented '89 then ? wood is very much lighter colour under 'plate so has been around for a while!!
 16. If you can be arsed, check this out, (thread...musicman porn, page 17...witterth post) I've been given a fretless stingray as a gift. (It's come back to me after many years away and Re sorced by Mrs W ...emotional sob!! from an old colleague) for my birthday on sunday to come (7th) I'm gobsmacked shocked and delighted!! I really can't belive it!!!! the serial number is:29838 how old does that make it? yours (still in shock) Witterth thanks guys....... still, bloody hell!!!
 17. Edit1 took me ages of "click and hope" to upload this 'cos what I know about computers ...well....any way I think its worked. I wanted to show off my birthday present from Mrs W (bless her!!!) Fretless 'ray Im now "complete" Mrs W Knows what I want (MATRON!!!!) and I cant believe it!!! ( I'm actually almost tearfull!!) 18.
That's an interesting point. I listen to a record like Maggie May and I think that, for once, the bassplayer got to have some fun without someone - singer or producer or guitarist, say - trying to restrain them and make them play root-5th.
Like you say interesting point Mr O/G... I think James Jamerson used to "wander" around a lot but he didn't "noodle" around KWIM?, bass lines...inspiring many generations of players. btw Level 42 "hot water" on youtube circa '86(?) on "The Tube"........ooopps!! that e is "d" tuned Mr K!!! mind you he gets out of it with good grace, so it may count for this thread
 19. "JAN 4th Max"...ranting away again eh? time to put the kids to bed,... over tired....tut tut..... Max!Max,Max,max.......just......(quietly:)sssssshhhhuuushhhh; (quieter still: ) sshhussh.... 'nite 'nite......max ....you know ...when he's asleep.......awwww! lights out... (blink!)
 20.
MB1. ...Looks like you wont be going short on Firelighters then!
MMMMMMM!!! you sold that smx350 yet M?
 21.
Don't forget my bass players mantra: 'Nobody notices you unless you catch fire'.
I love that one!!
 22. "I wish I could bottle that first night feeling. There is nothing like it and youll remember it for ever." What he said.......It wont be long before your indifferent and jaded about the whole thing!! enjoy,luck.... isnt in it.ATB
 23.
+1 Love the bass on Maggie may. Noodling is good.
Naaa!! Noodling is for the kitchen, play a bass line.
 24.
For about the last 7 years my No.1 has been a scabby old 70s jazz copy that I picked up from a local pawn shop for £60. I buy other basses (with monotonous regularity), play & gig them for a few weeks, then pick up the J & wonder why I bothered. It's simply Got It - everything just feels right. Jon.
Any pics of a scabby £60 70s copy?
