Stupidly Easy Tunes Which Are An Absolute Pleasure To Play
'Yesterdays' by Switchfoot. An absolutely beautiful song to play, simple and stunningly effective bassline which compliments the guitar line more than almost any other song I know. 10/10
switchfoot, Really underrated arn't they? -
I'll agree with Bonin' In The Boneyard, sir! It probably has to be the choice cut from any of the aforementioned bands. I wouldn't be so hasty as to say the genre was totally throwaway; you either liked it or not...Marmite. It did however throw up some great musicians, but then it did spawn a handful of white bands (Limp Bizkit, Extreme, Korn maybe) who once the genre had been put through the machine, were just so awful. P
Fackkin A to that Nancy!!!!
I can't remember which I used, but I tried some vocal tablets before doing a new year's eve gig last year and they really helped. I mean it was easier to sound good from the off with only a bit of warming up beforehand. They really feel nice. i think the ones I used were vocalzone tablets. not sure, though.
DRUGS??? to enhance your musical perfomance? do musicians do that???
Everyone in America knows 'Party At Ground Zero', which was on Fishbone's first EP. In the USA they actually did alright with growing sales up to the release of Reality of My Surroundings, but fell away again after that. Mostly because their follow-up record was insane, and Columbia dropped them after it flopped. To be fair, I think marketing Fishbone would be a complete nightmare even with the best will in the world. Guitarist quit after touring ROMS, had a bit of a mental breakdown by all accounts, the story was that he went and joined a religious cult, then Norwood decided to rescue him and he was charged with kidnap, but that might not be true. Organ/trombone/singer quit after the next record, drummer quit a couple of records later, then trumpet/singer quit. It's now basically Angelo and Norwood, plus John Steward (long-term replacement drummer, used to be in Super 8) and whoever else they can get to go on tour with them.
Norwood... of course.. Norwood he was/is great isn't he? mad as fish in parka though.
That's why i said switch cleaner first WD40 will give a quick fix,and possibly save a Tech's fee.
A Good point, well presented Sir!
its Gm..so if you want to go down...and keep the tonality you need to use minor keys whatever fits your voice range....take the highest note and come down from that...
I know its in a minor key 'cos thats ....well just what it is! but I do take your point about starting with the "highest" note, good idea!!!
Max who?
sorry, just a joke, maxrossell who posts on the forum... not slagging him off, he just has very high standards!!! -
Oh hang on!!! don't use wd 40 as it eventually attracts dust and makes crackles worse!in the long run.. an alcohol based switch cleaner (which evaporates over time ) is your best option.(maplins stock one) sorry to contradict you hillbilly, but that idea comes from bitter experience!!
I've always viewed music as the ultimate Meritocracy, I couldn't give a damn about a player's cultural heritage, if they make me go YEAH!, they're in. Commercial success ultimately hinges on long-term mass appeal - RHCP have the knack for that, Living Color didn't. P.
good call P!!! you're spot on.... Though some guys did "miss the boat" in the scheme of things ,didn't they? Jackie Wilson/Wilson Pickett/Big Joe turner/T- bone walker/ J Jamerson/James Brown/Buddy Guy and Sam Cooke all didn't have the success in the "living years" they deserved did they? well.. I don't think so... but then again We're still talking about them...so.....? am I wrong as well? I know some of then were taken early but...., but do you get me? W
Interesting choices - most of these songs have timing that have to be just right, and many covers bands don't get them right.
are you related to max? -
still struggling with Roxanne!!! though I do love "cant stand losing you" and "the beds too big with achooo" Ps. tried your suggestions Steve thanks!!
Free Me - Joss Stone. Infectious bass riff drives the song nicely. Easy to play, even for me.
good point about the bass line, but am I alone in finding Joss Stone well.....just more than a bit sh*te? I'll get me coat....... -
Fishbone!!! they were really good weren't they!!! what happend? did they make like a banana? I quite vividly remember them on "The Tube"...Top... top Turn. not so sure about "Living colour" though...bit too....muso(?) oh I dunno just didn't float my boat. singer was/is a fine actor though...was'nt he in Hamburger Hill or Full Metal Jacket? a veitnam type of pic that everyone was making in the late 80's, anyway can't I remember.I do just remember being impressed at the time. .......or was it the drummer? ooopppsss!
-
Then what is wrong with C, B, Bb or A? There is no right or wrong key. well, some of those keys make the high notes even higher!!!! and then guitar players start moaning about being "authentic" dont they? Ill try your Ideas though guys ps. dont worry about "hurting"my voice.... it's nowt to write home about in the first place!

Status basses stay in tune even after being chucked down a rusty fire escape (metaphorically speaking) If you can rise to the quite high price tag, I'd wholeheartedly reccomend them. they record REALLY well too, though when you DI them sound engineers usally go,"Bloody Hell ....where's all that signal coming from?!?" good kit, though, on the eye? not for everyone. I'm talking about the headless ones BTW EDIT really early 80's ones the "thick" necks, again not for everyone, modled on p bass I'm told
Yep! Change key. The most important thing is to find the key that allows you sing the song the best way that you can. I think most singers would have a problem singing Police/Stings songs in the original key.
yes mate, I'd figured a key change but even D (or Eb)is too hard!! is there some trick? is what I was asking? probably not..... I dont know much about singing.......is all... ATB W

I've been "trying" to sing "Roxanne" all day and just can't get there (G Minor isn't it?) my throat really hurts now!! any "tips" guys? I can do the bass part/sing ..thing but getting the key.......jesus.....am doing it I wrong?
