I think there was only the 1524 2x15" and 1084 (H) 8x10" cabs that were 4 ohms. There could be anomolies and one offs or others that i've never seen before Somewhere is a 1153 300w 4 ohm cab that used to be mine but I changed the driver in it.
TA

Iv'e been offered a 4 ohm Trace elliot cab 2x10 and so,was thinking of looking for 4 ohm 4x10 or 1x15 to go with it, then have these powered by my (old) stereo mk v AH500 gp11 head (with a crossover setting/switch thing on the back) therefore running both cabs "full range" rather than hi-pass/low-pass is this possible? is this a bolix idea? do 4ohm 4x10/1x15 cabs-300w exist? and with a AH500 gp11 (made around 83/84 I think) will they deliver the good poke (matron) that the 8 ohm 4x10/1x15 cabs did? I'm not sure of the ohm/impedance maths on all this,I know my old (broken I think)cabs were 8ohm (looked at the impedance thread and it made myhead hurt!) untill all this rarity of 4 ohm cabs and ohmage thing came to light I thought I was getting somewhere..now.. any Trace elliot gurus out there to help? I understand that most cabs up for sale are 8ohm,is that right? I want to get on with doing some playing ATB Witterth
I'll see if I can preempt the other posts. Firstly, it might be worth using the search function, as I'd be suprised if this hasn't been asked several times before. Secondly, browse the secondhand section on here. Buying used gives you far more bang for your buck than buying new, and if you don't tell anyone they won't even know the difference! Lastly, don't forget you need an amp to go with the bass (assuming you don't have one). The advice I was given was that a good bass with a bad amp won't sound as good as a bad bass with a good amp, so perhaps you should spent that grand 60% amp, 30% beer, 10% get a decent thick strap, some strings, and perhaps a pedal. Oh yeah, and if there's a bassist whose sound you like, it's normally not too hard to find out what gear he uses, so that could be a good starting point. So yeah, well done on the choice of instrument Edit: damn, someone beat me to it! damn you witterth...
its only because I care
Hi folks, I'm a novice bassist who happens to be without a bass guitar but have the will (and some cash) to buy one, so I'm here to ask for your recommendations. I mostly like to play metal, mainly 80ies stuff, maiden, judas priest, ozzy etc. My budget is at most 1000£ (don't have to spend it till the last penny I checked the Fender Steve Harris Precision Bass and Fender American Deluxe P Bass but I couldn't made up my mind yet, so I'm asking your opinion, what do you recommend? Thanks in advance
to a beginner or start uper Id say, get a squire jazz( NOT P Bass) they are really good, and then spend the rest ( a good amount left from £1000) on a really good rig/combo especially if you in a rock band! in my humble opinion guys starting out spend too much on a guitar with a spec surplus to requirements and have no money left for the amp to make themselves heard! if you have a good amp/cab set up allready then look at second hand stingray or real fender jazz bass as you'll allways get your money back if it dosent work out and want to sell it on. sometimes with these guitars you can get really lucky and MAKE money on resale. Ow'sabout that then guys n gals?oohh...aahh...oohh( what you dont know Jimmy Saville?) mind you if youre Really into iron maien get a precision like steve

I got a washburn fretless as advertised here from absolutemusic.com in poole, delivered the very next day. its active ( after a fashion ) and is good enough for £160.00 and looks quite nise in an 80s kind of way. tone controls seem to do b***er all though in fact looks pretty similar slightly better finish and "soap bar" pickups
Worth bearing in mind that the guy who plays on your actual recording is unlikely to play exactly the same version live - all the bands I've seen in recent times seem to have a 'live' arrangement of the numbers they made popular and no-one carps about it 'not being right'.
very good point. -
Hope as it was "late fathers" they get what its really worth, guitars and trace elliot head
Ok Tell you why I have a custom bass. This guy died, quickly, of cancer. He was there then next time I looked he was gone. We weren't friends exactly but I knew him from gigs. It hit hard. He was about three years older than me. I was still playing the same beginners kit I'd downgraded to about 10 years before. At that point I decided that life was too darn short to play an average bass through an average amp and I started saving. I sold a few things, raided the savings and ordered the Shuker. I did it for me. I don't care if it sounds good to anyone one else but me. I like it when a fellow bass player plays it and it takes an hour to get them to stop smiling but mostly I like it when I put it on and it feels like home. I've got used to the fact that the average punter can't tell it from a Squier (or a strat for that matter) that's really not important. The overriding reason it's so good for me is that it's all about me. There you go.
Ive been worrying/mentally debating about buying an 86 jaydee that in, 1986, I would have hurt someone to own.this post has convinced me to get it. thanks there you go. indeed.
Yeah I agree, I've spent many years (well, 2-3) learning and analysing an onslaught of covers note for note and many more (4-5) studying music theory in great detail, and I've been improvising and jamming since the day I started playing (6-7 years ago.. wow). And I'm not a fraction of the way I hope I reach down my musical path. I'm my opinion learning about music is the true reward, playing it is just the day job. I learned to play as a jazz musician too, which is a great help for this kind of expression. I especially love putting walking lines into pop songs (or dropping in and out of them, which is my usual approach), regardless of the potential gimmick factor. It fits into some so naturally and lifts the song so much that its incredible it didn't have one in the first place. Just 'out of style' I guess.
"out of style" walking ?( slap maybe but..)Never. more power to you. the news is however all bad, Ive been playing for 26 years, mostly professionally and like you Im still scratching the surface. but its still fun.fustrating at times, but still fun! -
I always improv the basslines in my covers bands by following what the guitar player is doing and eventually just memorising the harmonic structure and accents. At first I did it when I didn't have time to learn the songs properly but I got a lot of good feedback about how I was changing the songs and it makes it much more fun and characterful live so I've kept doing it. We're booked for a lot of gigs though so I figure it can't be too bad, watch out for us around Cheshire http://www.myspace.com/lespeches . Unfortunately none of my bass parts are on that myspace yet
I totally agree with that perspective. however reading (a little bit) and finding those elusive "proper"notes has made it possible to glean a litte bit more out of music in general. it takes time and I very often dont get it right, but the journey and "googling" can be fun dont you think? maybe I a masochist! some times with a dep 12 hours away we dont have such luxury though -
Did you notice the continuously struck open A during the lead break? Loads of folks don't.
Damn right! and mostly stays on A in chorus apart from odd stray to F#, in other words doesnt follow chords as such also watch Macca, "strum", almost, on open/octave A when playing Get back on apple roof -
