  1. Here's a couple of bonus questions - what makes one speaker more sensitive than another? And.. is there a reason you'd need a low sensitivity speaker rather than high? Is it purely down to construction cost?
  2. I've just installed a Limelight P pickup into my new (old) '72 'P. Sounds marvellous.
  3. I suspect your ears need a bit of a clean 🙂
  4. It got its first run out a couple of days ago on a dep gig, and it sounds lovely. Here's a snippety snippet.

  6. Oh no! I've not had this - presumably you've contacted Leszek? FIngers crossed for ya...
  7. Me neither - with a band as meticulously discussed at Rush, I’d it had been mentioned anywhere in fleeting by an official source it would have been well documented by now. I'm not naive enough to suggest there’s no overdubs on the album, mind...
  8. We've got twins! For the record, mine is an absolute cracker. Enjoy yours 🙂
  9. I've been a Rush fan for decades, and read everything about them I can get my hands on. I've never heard any mention of the bass on ASOH being completely overdubbed.
  10. Umm.. what's your source for this?
  11. IME, 60s necks are wide, but shallow front-to-back. Later 60s and 70s B necks are narrower (not J narrow tho) but deeper front-to-back. All are perfectly playable by anyone with normal hands 🙂
  12. Jeff, you’re either a serial bore, or obsessed. Let it go.
  13. Incidentally, has anyone heard the recent live album? Yikes.
  14. ...quoting @Oopsdabassist from the Rush thread, and continuing the cross-thread mash-up... I was about to post in this thread that - IMO - Yessongs could be great, but I think I suffers from similar audio issues to Exit Stage Left. Weird phasing, weak bass... like ESL, I wish they would rework it. But then the compilation they released from that tour seems to have similar issues, so maybe it's burned to the tape.
  15. Something to do with the chap from Alien Ant Farm, I believe. I'm too old to know anything about them.
  16. No. It was only bloody closed, wasn't it? I was all keyed up to play chopsticks on it. *sobs*
  17. Right.. here's more pics & the lowdown. It's had one previous owner, who bought it new in San Bernardino, CA in 1972. He's played it ever since. and did the usual tinkering 1980s (Dimarzio pickups, Badass, replacement pickguard). Dave Wilson has restored to its former glory, with a couple of bits from Limelight, and it's a beaut. Light (7.5lbs-ish) and incredibly resonant. It lives again, and it's going to get gigged to hell. Happy days.
  18. Hmmm..! In other Going For the One-related news, I was here on Tuesday:
  19. I actively avoided them for years. As an avid Rush / Genesis fan, something about them just repulsed me. Then, a couple of years ago I started listening Going for the One and Drama, and then the whole catalogue opened up to me. I couldn’t say what my favourite is (I even like Tormato) but post-Drama my interest wanes. Homeworld off The Ladder is a real standout in the later years... the rest..? Meh. I also think they’re one of the few bands that have really run their course and should jack in. The recent line-up is rotten, while ARW are fantastic.
  20. ...anyway, they did pretty well for themselves, so I'm sure they don't care what I think 😄
  21. ...but prepped in a band environment prior to recording. Loads of great instrumental breaks on that album. Contrast that to later albums, recorded with (to quote Neil) 'Boosh [producer Nick Raskulinecz] in front of me conducting...' Just prep the songs beforehand, man. Don't leave it to the producer.
  22. IMO after Counterparts they stopped writing and recording songs as a band, and you can feel the shift. Instrumentally, too... the classic 'Rush as power trio' instrumental breaks, thoughout their career, where the band cuts loose. Y'know, Freewill... A Farewell to Kings... Camera Eye... Distant Early Warning... Marathon... you wait for these parts of the songs. Where are they in later albums? Bass, drums, guitar, all stretching out as a band? Nowhere. That's where. Just layers of uninspired sludge.
  23. Let's give 'Turn the Page' a shout out too, eh? What a smasher of a tune.
