  1. If its this one, it doesn't appear to be raked at all. That one shouldn't have left the workshop without a retainer. The 'proper' raked headstocks are very obviously tilted back, and don't need a retainer.
  2. My current Jake has a retainer as the headstock isn't raked back, but I've owned another two without, and it wasn't an issue. There's plenty of tension.
  3. The cover of this one is extremely poignant, I reckon. It also demonstrated how the art of recording / mixing live performances has changed over the years... not always for the better.
  4. True. Also, does anyone think Alex's side-project Victor is frankly the band Rush could have been?
  5. I think you might be right. The drum intro to Digital Man is anything but lifeless. I agree the guitar is a bit watery.
  6. Ha ha.. I love the production on Signals. I think the kit sounds great.
  7. Counterparts was the biggest ‘revisit revelation’ for me. The production is fantastic.
  8. You can’t single out Dog Years on an album that has Virtuality on it...
  9. I screw mine down pretty far. It cuts down on clanks, and I really believe it helps to even the response out across the strings. YMMV etc.
  10. For me, I went off them when - IMO - they stopped writing tunes and started sticking riffs together in ProTools. Geddy’s vocal syncopation becomes jarring, the melodies weak and the DANGANAGANGANAGANAGA bass parts are wearing. There’s the odd gem in there, but I can’t remember the names of half the tracks. There’s no ‘wait for it...’ instrumental beaks any more, and it’s all a bit dense. I still love ‘em though, even if they did a couple of tours too many.
  11. If you’re going the MacBook route (and personally, I would), you’d be looking at spending a fair chunk more than that - something used from around 2013 maxxed out with RAM would be a good start. I’ve used Premiere Pro for years, and it’s great.* *Other editing applications are available
  12. If ever there was an album crying out for a remix, it's that one.
  13. Hemispheres, Permanent Waves and Signals. A gradual decline from Hold your Fire, and serious patience-testing after Counterparts.
  14. We have a winner!
  15. Someone just say it, dammit 😄
  16. Lowdown's already provided one 😄
  17. OK... hope it's OK to jump in with this one...
  18. You're very welcome! I hope you find them as much of a revelation as I did (and still do..).
  19. Along with what’s been mentioned above, the next step is just to keep doing it - amount of pressure etc, will become second nature.
  20. Hey gang. I've removed a few posts to save people's ears (and speakers!). Any problems, drop me a PM. Ta.
  21. ...and also, as a singing bassist, I encourage you to give the ACS a go. For virtually pennies, the difference between them and the ER20s while singing is incredible.
  22. I’d go with the electric bass being the catalyst for a lot of it. Suddenly, the drummer could hear the bass player... and up went the volume.
  23. ...or at all practical, from the perspective of BC’s readership. Did he offer any practical solutions for musicians?
  24. I have no idea what this means 😞
