  1. The Alpine Musicsafe Pro were a revelation for me. They do an amazing job of preserving the frequencies across the board.
  2. Check out the Handbox R-400. It doesn't have a million buttons for EQ-shaping, but the core tone is so rich, you don't have to do loads with it.
  3. My comments are based on what I've used over the years, all of which seem to share ICEpower modules. Which might well be an implementation issue - I certainly don't have the technical background. ...and it should go without saying that all my posts on this subject should come with an 'IME' suffix.
  4. BUT the decent FOH and decent monitors probably don't use off-the-shelf car radio ICEpower modules like the amps we're talking about do :-)
  5. Hmm.. I've had a few in my time 😄
  6. If I was consistently running a DI to a decent FOH supported by decent monitors, I really wouldn't be that bothered what I used. But while I'm rely on what's behind me for my own enjoyment of the gig, it's got to be something tactile for me. Solid state seems to have it, with or without tubes (I'll politely skip my thoughts on the commonly available Class D heads I've tried), but the WB100 valve head took it up a gear - it was so quick and responsive. It was like a direct connection from my fingers to the back of my knees.
  7. Nah, on recent tours they've had a load of axuillary musos - even someone shadowing Mick F.
  8. Just ordered mine from Amazon to leave in the car should the worst ever happen. Ta for the heads-up 🙂
  9. Are you sure they’re guitar faces? It looks like he’s approaching Billy Mill roundabout* on most of these..? *ref. VIZ profanisaurus
  10. I'm not bothered as long as it's not an awful syrupy bleat, or a 'Look how cool and clever we are!' jazz-funk arrangement. Can't bear that stuff. I'm royally sick of it.
  11. I’m sure they could have done it with Neil and their usual auxiliary guy.
  12. My ‘flatty’ Is flame all the way through.
  13. I think all the vocals could do with a ramp up. They're buried in drums.
  14. ...have just made their debut on US telly. I was hoping it would be great, but I'm not so sure it's going to work. I don't think the terrible mix helps, mind.
  15. It's an absolute beast, isn't it? (Sonically, that is!) There really needs to be more of these amps out there.
  16. And, of course, the other problem with overplaying is what when you get to part of the song that could really do with a bit more going on... where do you go?
  17. Yup. The difference is knowing when not to be busy.
  18. A sad occasion this weekend, as the trial WB-100 was collected by its first proper owner (another BC'er, I'm happy to say). Funds are tight for me at the mo, otherwise I would have bought it seconds after gigging it for the first time. I hope to correct that soon, though - until then, back to the also-marvellous R-400.
  19. Oh no. That's totally ruined my enjoyment of Def Leppard and Kiss.
  20. The truly remarkable thing about the vid is that the bandleader's glasses match his hair. That's SO COOL.
  21. I've been quite openly saying people have different approaches to mine. It's you that seems to struggle to comprehend that others can do it their own way.
  22. ...in your experience. I've (been lucky to have) played with people who just play, and don't need to get embroiled in the theory, or dot reading. Some of them undoubtedly do that with other projects, some don't. And they all do fine.
