  1. I do.. '71 and '73.
  2. I agree, but this only really works if you're gigging in one or two bands with a fixed set-up. My gigging life is pretty mixed, so I have to be prepared for whatever the band / gig throws at me. Given that, an amp and a cab (albeit lightweight, even if it's not a class-D setup) works best for me, both logistically and tonally.
  3. So I've heard - this is encouraging. Mind, I've also heard some people say 'it's not quite there yet', so I might wait until the next generation. Until then, I'll carry on down the Handbox / WA path, where - to echo Eude's comments above - there's an authority to these amps which doesn't rely on volume. Hey, I typed that without using the word 'heft'! 😄
  4. The jury's still out for me, but I'm willing to be persuaded otherwise. (I'm referring to the consumer units you get in bass amps - not the pro-audio stuff.)
  5. Yeah. 'But it sounded great in my bedroom...'
  6. It's kind of hard to listen properly though a laptop monitor. Until then, all we can do is crack on about it. ...if that's OK with you.
  7. I would have agreed in the past, but the latest tube heads didn't seem to go down too well, either tonally or from a reliability PoV. I'm open to being convinced, but I can't see this head replicating the WA's magic.
  8. If anyone is reading this ‘cos they’re yearning for a Walkabout with more headroom, check out the Handbox R-400.
  9. It stops the sound of clumpy soles from drowning out the band.
  10. I can never evaluate amplification in rehearsal rooms. They're not great environments for it.
  11. Beatuiful! GLWTS.
  12. ^^^ This. Very much this.
  13. That's all the confirmation I need. Thanks, Dave.
  14. Someone posted a 'bass dep wanted' ad on a local FB page a year or so ago. A friend contacted them to ask them for more info. They were told the successful applicant would actually be miming to a track, but it was essential that they attend a rehearsal beforehand. He politely passed on the opportunity. 😜
  15. Yeah, that's for music playback. Ta for the suggestion, though...
  16. (Note to Apple haters.. move along. I've heard it all already 😄) Hey gang I recently picked up a used 7 Plus recently, with a view to handing my 6 down to my daughter. I noticed that the 'earpiece' speaker of the 7 Plus was far quieter than both my 6, and my wife's 5s. I assumed it was jiggered, so I got my money back. So, plan B: I've just picked up a used 6s Plus from a friend who really looks after his stuff. It's immaculate, but lo-and-behold... the call volume is much quieter again. I've done the usual troubleshooting - installing updates, noise cancellation, checked the speaker grille for obstructions, with no luck. It's got me wondering... are they just quieter phones? Has some EU directive been introduced to limit the volume? ...or am I just unlucky? Ta!
  17. It's not really a non-issue though, is it? Why do you think manufacturers use power ratings in their marketing?
  18. I came to the realisation fairly early on that my RH450 had the dynamic response of a semi-deflated paddling pool. When the ratings scandal broke, it explained everything, but I'd sold it long before that.
  19. Yep.
  20. One can always dream... Incidentally, Winter Song was on the setlist for this gig too, just acoustic guitar, vocal (neither from Rod) and bass. Faced with the prospect of playing one of the loveliest bass parts I know with it's originator watching in the wings 20 feet away, it felt right to ask him if he would like to play it instead. He graciously declined. No pressure, then.
  21. I can't even begin to answer that...
  22. I do indeed. And I got to do this once..
