  1. So this is what I've been totin' for the last month or so. It's a Handbox WB-100, and it's really rather lovely. Thread here:
  2. I regularly gig without a compressor. It invariably ends in hordes of incredulous gig goers RIOTING IN PROTEST because I've ruined their night.
  3. Aaand... here was mine. It really light. It was lush. But I found myself running it in 'P' config 95% of the time, without ever quite sounding exactly like a P. so I sold it and bought another P.
  4. Electricity's in short supply since the Beast from the East, y'know!
  5. ..by the way, I have a quiet couple of weeks, so if anyone on Tyneside-ish would like to give it a run out, let me know. I'm not sure what the plans are for it after Lezsek prises it out of my fingers - I'll find out.
  6. OK - so I've also done a couple of gigs with this head into a single 8ohm TKS 1x12. The first one was a party in a hotel with a full band. I had PA support, but no bass in the monitors, so I had to turn up to give a bit of stage coverage. Last night's gig was with a lively, energetic acoustic trio in a packed, noisy pub. No drums, but the bass has to be there because it's down to me to drive it. The WB-100 puts 120w into 8ohm, too - my goodness it kicks. It's tactile, rich and fat. At both gigs I half-expected to hit its ceiling, but I'm amazed at how solid it sounded. 120 old-school watts goes a LONG way. It's just gorgeous.
  7. Great basses. Custom shop quality - one of Fender's better crazy ideas.
  8. Use my Transferwise affiliate link, and you'll get a free transfer up to £500. And it's dead easy to use :-)
  9. That's what I thought was supposed to happen, but every time I engaged the pedal there was an instant change in the tone.. strange. At the time, I was running it straight into a poweramp.
  10. I'm pretty sure this isn't the case - I wrestled for around a year with mine (and the Para, which I had a similar issue with). In the end I picked up an EBS Microbass II, which had all the functionality and more, but left the mids untouched. That's not to diss the SansAmp - it's excellent at what it does if that's your thang.
  11. I've just had to ask Mrs. WoT to confirm that she can see this too, as I was convinced I was hallucinating.
  12. Thanks for contributing. It might be my failing memory, but I seem to recall engaging the SansAmp with the blend rolled off still introduced a noticeable change in the mids...?
  13. It's got a very baked-in tone - if you like it, you're in luck. I couldn't get on with the mid-suck.
  14. Well, the truth is it might sound a bit bare you you, but to everyone else it'll just sound.. right. I'd maybe do an E > F# > G walk-up behind the vocal into the G. Or a C, C > D > G.. that kind of thing. But whatever I did, it would be fleeting 'cos foot-fifth is king on that tune.
  15. Yup. And the quote in the ad in the music mags... was it someone from Biffy Clyro? - 'These headphones are cool as f***!' SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY
  16. The headphones thing made me laugh. Deary me.
  17. Hopefully they'll get someone in who can give them a bit of a shake...
  18. A European invasion... Limelight '67 P relic Maruszczyk Jake PJ Custom HandBox WB-100 120w valve head TKS S212 cab How I love it all so.
  19. Hmm.. not sure if you misread my post, but.. hearing this for the first time, my first thought is: 'That's got to be a bugger to play right'.
  20. Ah, you're right. I've just checked the SPL handling of both, and the Rode wins. I've got a Videomic, but it rarely gets used because the preamp in my camera is too noisy. I might couple it with something else...
  21. I would argue that 'What is Hip' is neither well-known, nor on the face of it does it not appear to be too much of a problem :-)
  22. This may be a bit obvious, bu I have a lot of luck with the various Zoom recorders.
  23. BTW.. those marks on the back? Classic example of 'left in a case, lying on a curly lead'.
  24. £1200 is reasonable even if it was stripped. it looks like ash. Coupled with the black guard (if original) this suggests it might well have been natural at birth.
