1.
Yes, lightweight tuners. Interesting observation about the bridge, Si. Anyone else had this issue?
. Hipshot B bridges on mine. Well worth the premium.
 2.
It went this afternoon.
Oh really...? *raises eyebrow*
 3. TbH, it's Gumtree, so it's aimed at local buyers. If i were local, I'd be banging on his door, ropy pics or no.
 4.
Word to the wise: You might want to consider skipping "I think I'm going bald"
Funnily enough, the last time I listened to that I probably had hair.
 5.
The remix of Vapour Trails is so much better than the original. I used to really dislike that album, but the remixed version revealed the quality in a lot of those songs. Well worth a few quid on Amazon if you don't have it. http://www.amazon.c...h+vapour+trails Now I just wish they'd to the same with Snakes and Arrows and (particularly) Clockwork Angels...
Yep - the VT remix is a million times better. I don't get the adulation for Clockwork Angels. There's a few good tunes on it, but the arrangements are generic RAWK, and the production is lifeless. Where are the great performances? The real standout instrumental breaks? Maybe they're buried under the kitchen sink, but I don't hear any. IMO Rush's best tunes were written and refined when they were working as a band, not when they're - literally - being conducted by the producer. Rant over :-)
 6.
No. I'm a bigger fan.
Drat. That didn't work. But the writing is SO HUGE our tiny human minds can't comprehend it.
 7.
Maybe, but I'm a bigger fan than you...
No. I'm a bigger fan.
 8.
I struggle (relatively) with anything after Test for Echo as (for me) they lost their subtlety and variation. Still, my least favourite Rush album (whichever it happens to be at the time, currently Clockwork Angels) is still a great album
That pretty much sums it up for me. The songs, arrangements and production get weaker, and Neil's lyrics start to suck a bit. (And I'm a MASSIVE fan.)
 9. Got to be worth a look if you're in the area...
 10.
Cheers. Never tried them but if I can get close to your sound there I'll be made.
Mind, that's all backline, so don't discount the influence of the amp & cab :-)
 11.
What strings were you using on The Chain in that gig video WoT?
I'm pretty sure they're D'Addario NYXLs...
 12.
They've really nailed the online configurator, the best of any manufacturer / luthier. I've got one on it's way and can't help speccing another.. Be interesting to know how many hits it gets, and what % make it through to orders..
Well, the build time seems to have rocketed since it went live.. :-D
 13.
Just wondering if anyone else remembers a Beatles studio recording of 'I saw her standing there' where Paul McCartney stops the song early on, because he hasn't got a pick and can't quite play it. I thought it was on The Anthology, but I can't find the version anywhere. Thanks.
Are you not thinking of 'One after 909' off the Anthology..?
 14.
Lovely sunburst on the "new" one. Your '71 had faded to pretty much 2T hadn't it? That is a strong, deep 3T. Sounds Ok too... You need to get your sig updated mind...
Yep - mine had no red on the front, apart from a bit under where the ashtray sat. And... whoops. You're right :-)
 15. I'm actually - SHOCK HORROR - considering getting it refinned Oly, but if not I'd be happy leaving it as-is.
 16. A bit'o'flatwound noodling today... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBLILhJMRKs
 17.
Handbox looks interesting - I know you don't have an endorsement deal WoT but they really should offer you one .
Ha. I'm just a giddy fan :-) (and a Geddy fan, but that's another thread)
 18.
Totally rubbish relic job though - who did it ? Stevie wonder?
I wish. ;-)
 19.
Can't seem to find the price for the R400, Amy idea?
I believe it's 650EUR - drop Leszek and email ([email protected]) and he'll confirm.
 20. IMO... look no further. Handbox R-400 - the best-kept secret in amp world.
 21. Cheers! Here's how it sounds with a pick... :-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFjwK34t1ZA
 22. Hey gang I (very) recently sold my ol' faithful '71P, with the intention of buying / restoring something a lightweight 60s P. But... this popped up on my radar and I made the mistake of having a go on it. It's light (8.5lbs-ish), lively, and blimmin' lovely. And that rosewood... yum! Pickups are replacements from '76, and the bridge isn't original. Apart from that, it's as-is... It seems to be richer growlier than my warm, round '71. Lots of variation with the tone, though.
 23.
Only just caught up on this thread altho i read the initial post at the time. WOT :- i would have to say your way of demo'ing the amp is perfect for me. I like the way you keep the bass relatively simple throughout that allows me to identify the subtle changes in amp settings. I would hope you continue to demo gear in similar fashion. I don't want to see a demo of how great a bassist thinks he is. Its more about what the amp can do for a traditional style of playing or a particular song style. Excellent reviews and i am quite interested in one of the R400 versions. I found the all tube version had a nice tube tone but not as much variation from the EQ. I find that with most of the all-tube amps. I prefer the hybrid tube with SS back end for reliability. Altho its a year after you last posted on this i was wondering how much of the tone is the amp and how much from the TKS cab. I've not used a TKS cab but they do appear very popular recently. Dave
Ah, thanks Dave. Much appreciated. TBH, I haven't used the R-400 with anything other than my TKS, so I can't really comment. FWIW, my S212 and S112 don't have a distinctive 'TKS' tone IMO. They just sound like classic bass cabs...
 24.
Exactly which documentary does this refer to? We don't have Netflix.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rush:_Beyond_the_Lighted_Stage
