1. And here it is paired with a P and a pick. What a great combo! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFjwK34t1ZA&feature=youtu.be
2.
I totally forgot about the CITES reg changes! I was considering a MIJ from Ishibashi just the other day! From the Marusz (that's the most I can spell right now of them!) that I've played it felt nice, but sounded much more modern than any of the 60s P's I'd played! Plus their "custom shop" prices have gone up quite a bit, a P that wasn't actually a full width P neck was topping out at £1450. Where as the Moollon was only coming in at £1700 for the exact spec I'm after. The attention to detail that the Moollon guys put in to things really excites me and combined with the amount of pro players who have used and do use them I'm certain that I'll be placing a order for one at some point soon, I just need to save up a little bit more!
There's lots of pickup options with the Maruszczyk - you can also spec the neck profile as well. The Moollon's look great too, but does the £1700 include shipping & import tax?
3. For my money, I'd go for Maruszczyk (for general greatness) or Limelight (which I'd buy again if I could specify a weight). The P neck on my old Limelight Jazz felt wonderfully worn-in, with rolled edges.
4.
I just leave the amp's EQ flat, and erm.......the bass's EQ flat . I just play differently if I want the sound different, nearer the bridge or the neck etc. Anthony Jackson doesn't even have a volume control on his bass.
That's broadly my approach...
5.
Hi guys, was just wondering, when you ordered through Adrian, how did you know about the advancement in the making of your bass ? I ordered in July, Adrian was a bit vague about delivery time and didn't get much news from him since then. Did he just messaged you when the bass was ready ?
In the beginning, there was silence, and darkness was over the surface of the deep. After one week and ten of this silence, Adrian said, “Let there be light,” and the holy sofa shot descended from the heavens. Man saw that the sofa shot was good, and separated light from the darkness.
6. Here's a little clip form this weekend. I love how this head has detail in the mids, right where it's needed... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ib1DJdCk0q4
7. I'll kee an eye out for that. Didn't Jesse Hughes say some fairly controversial things after the attack? Is that covered in the film?
8. And this is possibly how it sounded before they were grasped by the hand of Horn: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBAEdRzvKqM
9.
Mine arrived in the weekend. It's great. I've put post-its over the tab to make it a proper music book.
I've put post-its over the tab & notation to make it a proper book.
10. Place it between two panes of glass and pop it in the sunshine for a while (if you have any)
11. Generally speaking I - and the people I work with - know if it's working or not, without needing to refer to recordings. That said, I sometimes work with people who are (diplomatic hat ON) less experienced, and I think some of them would benefit from hearing them.
12. IMO (of course) I really wanted CA to be a great return to form, but I was disappointed. The mix is fussy, and the songs are flabby.
13. They should let it go IMO. Geddy's voice is - sadly - finished, and IMO the good songs stopped coming a while ago.
14.
This might be controversial for all you Marus fans, but in my opinion there's something very off putting about the body shape of those Jakes. The original Fender shape is beautiful, a design classic. I don't know but perhaps it makes good use of the 'Golden Ratio', French curves and all that. The Jake looks like someone tried to make a Precision template drawn freehand in one attempt just from memory. I'm not saying all P/J clones need to faithfully copy the original. For instance the new Sandberg shapes I find very nice indeed!
Out of interest, what are you seeing? when I A/B my Jakes and '71 P's, the main visual difference I can see is that the pickguard on the lower horn of the Jakes is rounder than the P's. Apart from that, the Jakes have more of a scoop to the lower cutaway, and that's pretty much it...
15.
Why did I think these basses were quite a lot cheaper than that?? Swear there was talk of £600 and £700 for a marusisjfhgysikz not so long ago?
Not quite that cheap. The stock basses can be a bit cheaper, though.
16. ..in fact, I've built one for you. They don't do vintage olive, but hopefully it's not a dealbreaker. Lots of other colours to choose from, too. And it was so much cheaper, I've thrown in some Hipshot Ultralites and Hipshot bridge for you. Comes out at about 1100 quid.
17. Play with this, build a better bass, and save a ton of money.
18.
Exactly, that's us, We're tacky.
Oh really? Ha ha. The first one we played at, we laughed so hard during the Trilogy we got asked to leave
19. TBH, when I think of the Confederate flag in a U.K. context, it just reminds me of the terrible Country and Western dos at holiday camps I played at a few times in the past. It's tacky.
20.
Indeed. It doesn't take long to type confederate flag into Google and the first few hits are all from the last few days about various people taking down or refusing to take down the flags. Which don't seem to have been an issue up to now.
Ha ha ha. You dafty.
21.
No. In the US upto about a year ago it was just seen by the majority of Americans as a symbol of southern American pride. It's only in the last few weeks it's become more than that by a larger proportion. The war wasn't about Slavery as such but the right to keep their lives the same, which included keeping slaves. Looks like an awful lot of big, long established American institutions are now hurriedly removing the flag from their premises, ensignia and regalia and distancing themselves from it. That's very sad.
You're just making this up, aren't you?
