1.
Decided to redesign the Jake Custom I had a little while ago. Changes include a Hipshot bridge, no humbucker at the bridge, no dots, ebony instead of rosewood f/b and lollipop tuners. Plus a 34" scale whereas my previous one was 33". This is essentially the spec I have on the way from Lakland (blasphemy!!! ): Fun! Si
Eh? You're getting this built by Lakland? (Aplogies - I'm slow on the uptake today..!)
2.
After more than 30 years of proud ownership comes the realisation that i cannot manhandle my beloved trace elliot stack on my own any more. I bought the cabs without hearing them as they were extremely rare at the time so i took the gamble on them. Well its gamble time again so ive got 2 Handbox Black Emperor 2x10 cabs coming in a couple of weeks.im gonna try them with my spare head and see how they go.should be easier to load my van anyway.
I'm intrigued! Hopefully I'll get to see them at some point :-)
3. You could do a lot worse than a Promethean 2x10... if you can find one. Here's one that sold on BC recently. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9YWd8z2e10
4. I think I owned this back in the day. If so, it's a beaut, and the active circuits in these are wonderful.
5. Handbox R-400 for me, by a country mile. It's a little bit heavier than you'd like, but it's not actually heavy, and it's compact. And it's an honest old-school 400w. Remember, amps didn't need to be 500-plus watts. The current ratings are a marketing phenomenon that only came about when the technology changed. *ducks behind rock* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLyBAFiJRJY
6.
Have the prices gone up as well as the difficulties with the £? A fairly simple P bass, 5 string, normal colours etc is now about £1350....
Yeah.. still reasonable for a custom build, but I'm beginning to think I got in at the right time.
7.
it's for reasons like that that us bassists are tarred as the dumb ones in bands.
Really, it's not. Hardly anyone cares.
8.
Quick question - have you guys used any particular method that you'd recommend to wire Adrian a deposit, or just regular bank transfer? Cheers
I totally recommend Transferwise - it's cheap and fast. (Disclosure: the link above is a referral link - using it will give you a free transfer up to £500, and I'll get a referral point. Of course do your own research, YMMV etc.)
9. At least you were able to correct yourself. Unlike Van Halen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mjx_GjyXCs4
10.
He's not up to it. Get another singer.
Yup. Next topic, please.
11. Is it a combo you're after, or just an amp?
12.
You can do it. I've been doing them all week at work! Here's what I fancy... https://public-peace.de/shopping-cart?view=bundle&id=435
I wonder what the impact of the configurator has been on the UK's work efficiency rate?
13.
You'll have to google them for a bigger image, sorry about that! If I put it right over the nut I thought the open strings sounded pretty good.
So - does it only mute open strings? Sorry.. it's been a long day and my head hurts. ha ha.
14. *squints at photo* How does it have any effect on non-open strings? Am I missing something?
15. Happy birthday, pet x
16. Yep, it's all over the shop. Give it a wide berth.
17. Just popped in to say that the Maruszczyk humbucker used on the Jake PJs is a monster. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1AQnOMx-V8
18.
+1 for that! I would perhaps expand as follows Expensive - Mesa Walkabout Scout
..and a complete PITA to carry about.
19.
I preferred the sound of the S112, that's right. The 1126 was more powerful, with lots of bottom end. My plan then was to just have the two 1126 and nothing else. But I didn't gel with them. Same with a pair of BF BB2 cabs. The S112 cabs are much more my thing. They just don't get as loud or as deep as the 1126 or BB2... but it turns out it's not really much of a problem.
Same for me. The 1126 is bigger and wider (tonally, and physically) but I prefer the way the S112 'speaks' - it's more present.
20. Promethean 5110. If you can find one.
21. Combining two S112's is exponential. The difference between one and two is huge. I can't imagine needing more than my S212. My S112 does me for many gigs, too.
22. Ha ha... they are just so cool.
23. I love Mallaig and TKS 12's. I haven't even looked at any other cabs since I got mine, many moons ago.
24.
Mike Dirnt. Imelda May.
Will Young? Brian Cant.
25. I had the RH450 for a year. Dunno why I stuck with it - it was (IMO) the aural equivalent of throwing wet toilet paper at a sheet of cardboard. (IMO, for those who missed it the first time)
