Joe Walsh? Cheese? :-0 For me, I've got a real soft spot for 70s LA cheese. Afternoon Delight, Let Your Love Flow, that kind of thing. Fab.

My two OBBM cables with mute-y jacks have lasted for years and years.
-
In that case, definitely check it out :-)
-
You haven't given much info about your requirements so technically you're going to get a list of amps that people own :-) but, I recommend you check out the HandBox R-400. It's a great BG head, and I'm aware of at least one DB user who loves it.

LOL @ Fender pt. 2: http://www.pmtonline.co.uk/fender-fsr-limited-edition-59-american-vintage-stratocaster-natural They're trippin' big time.

Here's another Q4n clip from last night. Murky lighting, and I've had to crop it to cut out a pint glass :-)

Who's custodian of Duck's '59 these days?
-
Quite... By the way, Leszek's mentioned that there's only one R-400 left, and it'll be the last one for a while while he concentrates on the development of his tube & Class D heads.
-
Ooof... I don't need a 100w tube head, but... I think I need one.

LOL @ Fender: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/299615-fender-noir-redline-precision-bass Just do some decent colours and stop mucking about, man.

As for Maruszczyk, check out the Jakes & Elwoods on their sofa shot gallery. I'm not seeing a whole lot of standard colours & configs on there...
Because smaller companies are generally more flexible and able to react to market pressures much faster than large corporations? That is how they grow their business after all... I'm not sure, Adrian is generally quite responsive isn't he? I'm sure if a multiple buyer of his were to ask him he'd probably provide a % split by colour of his last years orders (it'd only be a 1 minute job on his orderbook spreadsheet)... A quick glance at the Maruszczyk thread would suggest the classic colours (or natural) are still the most popular with seemingly black winning.
I dunno - Fender seem pretty quick at bringing out whole new bizarre hotch-potch variations, all the while being seemingly resistant to doing something as simple as bang out a few classic exciting colours.
Not sure about the marketing point either; managing to sell the same old designs & colours to bassists for the last 50 years or so must be a master stroke of marketing mustn't it?
A master stroke? I might be wrong, but I don't think Fender has been a picture of health for a number of years now. They're surely losing ground..?
-
90% of bassists are probably happy with the basic colours anyway.
I wonder how many Maruszczyk owners didn't need a new bass until they saw other people's sofa shots of something colourful and pretty, and thought... That's what marketing is all about, and Fender just seem to be rubbish at it.

It feels like they're scuttling the ship.
Comparison files below. They are both .MOV files straight from each device, no conversion or editing whatsoever. One clip is truncated, but there's enough of it for a comparison. Canon SX40 version Zoom Q4n version
Listening again to this, the main difference between the two (apart from the Q4n isn't clipping) is that the SX40 is capturing the room, which the Q4n doesn't do in XY. That makes it feel like it has a bit more life about it. If the mix coming from straight ahead was flat and lifeless, then there's part of the problem.
That's the main reason I would prefer to take a laptop and use a feed from the desk. There's so many variables in a room that you can't be sure to get a clean recording with balance using the mic on a camera. I'd happily put a couple of mics into the room to supplement the instrument mics then tidy things up a DAW.
That would always be the preference of course, but for a turn-up-at-the-gig-at-8:30-and-plonk-the-camera-down-and-off-you-go solution, it's pretty hard to beat.
-
It's wierd. I just haven't had the same problems. The Q4n sounds fine to me.
We have to agree to differ, also because the volume in the room was almost intolerable, so it didn't sound that good in the first place.
....ahhhh.
-
Strange.. my Q4n doesn't sound like that at all (see previous clips), but then again I wasn't in the room. The SX40 clip is clipping. Honest.
-
No extra mic on the SX40 - it's got a built-in stereo mic. The DSLR I use for filming has a decent, but mono, mic, and I'm currently plugging into the camera's microphone input a small stereo mic which I might have to replace with a more expensive version in the future.
All of which will add up to more than £250, I'm guessing?

OK.. obviously I don't know how it sounded in the room, but: I agree the Q4n sounds a bit dense. Maybe a little bit of a nudge to give it some air would sort that out? Maybe it was duff? The SX40 has more ambience, but it's clipping so much it's - IMO - unlistenable. Did you have the mics set to XY on the Qn4?
For my live recordings I am now still using the old Canon SX40, which wasn't a DSLR or even a bridge camera, just a slightly bigger version of a compact. I pair it with an entry-level DSLR with an additional stereo microphone; the DSLR gives us better image quality but the sound isn't as good as the SX40.
It might be 5 years old, but the SX40 was still a £400 camera with a decent bit of glass on it. I don't think you can expect a the Q4n to compete. What mic are you using?
-
Here's a couple of other clips I've done with the Q4n: (The camera is behind the PA on the first one, and there's no monitors... hence the missing vox) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2Xc20kBpeA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6bO52qiX_M http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Y-YggnBz-w&t=41s

I would never expect to the Q4n footage to compete with a DSLR or decent bridge camera, but if the lighting is decent enough (unlike my example above!) it's not bad. (Incidentally, I don't use the low-light option. The blacks lose their depth.) I've got no complaints whatsoever about the mics - a little tweak in post, and I think they sound just fine. I've never had any issues with the audio not playing on my Macbook either. Can you post your clips here? I'm intrigued.

Thread from the dead... Here's my effort at a single-camera edit, recorded on my Zoom Q4n - in a less-than-ideal location - at last night's gig.

Another clip from a dep I did last night...
