1. ^^^ Agreed - top chap. The mind boggles as to how busy he must be at any given time.
2. Incidentally, I asked Leszek about repairs, etc., and here's his reply:
The amp is very well built but I wouldn't dare to say that it's indestructible! This is an electronic device assembled from hundreds of pieces, and like any amp there is always a possibility that something might break. Sending schematics to any place in the world is not a problem though. Local amp techs will manage to repair the R-400 easily.
Hopefully it'll be a long time before it's needed, but good to know there's nothing 'stealth' going on under the hood.
3. Just have 'em all in one gigs forum, and put the location in the title. Job done.
4.
At least if you post here, your post will be seen by anyone who goes to the relevant forum, as opposed to your post being a victim of a mysterious algorythm that shows it only to a small, random percentage of your followers unless you pay for promotion. Facebook and Twitter have had their day. Local gig guides are rarely up to date, unless you mean walking to a pub on the day and reading the boards outside it.
Are you suggesting if you post your gigs on BC you'll reach a bigger audience than Facebook...? The algorithm thing is only relevant if you post as your band's page. If you post it on your personal page, far more of your friends will see it. FB and Twitter are still the main social tools in any band's armoury. You just have to know how to do it right.
5. Both of mine are chambered, and weigh around 7.2lbs. Insane.
6.
It is a good resource that is very underused. Would probably be more use to people looking for a band if it good be divided into areas like North West,South East etc. Would that be a lot of work to do bluejay ?
Just clearly state the general location in the thread name when you post in the gigs forum. IMO, there's no point subdividing it into regions. We have too many subforums on BC as it is. And the reason it's underused on BC is that there are already a million - better placed - platforms out there for this kind of resource. Facebook, Twitter, local gig guides...
7. The owner of the first R-400 sent to America has just posted a pic of it in the other' forum... it's a stunner..
8.
In the old days, chord progressions meant little. And there are only a limited number of possibilities, anyway. Today music has dumbed down considerably. With the advent of the guitar bands, progressions became important, due to the limited musical abilities of the instrumentation and the songwriters. That's why all new music sounds the same today. Lot's of technology: little talent. Back in the seventy years before the Beatles, the singer was the attraction, the lyrics and melody combination, the show or movie from whence it came, the brass or string orchestra arrangement. But due to a lack of education and child rearing skills, today's movers and shakers have become big cry-babies living in their mother's basements wearing short pants, ball caps, tee shirts and running shoes and texting gibberish about Trump. They are still waiting for an adult to show them the way. Listening to riky-tiky garbage from non-western countries and the filthy obscene non-music-rap, they have not furthered their own music. Chasing after poseurism instead of talent gets you a photo-op! Luckily I have a huge record collection. I can play bass, double bass, guitar or plectrum banjo with the greatest music and musicians of all time. CD collections are limited to the same songs Downloaded music is only the new garbage. I kept my turn-tables. So I wouldn't be held hostage to the "music biz" CEO's. Just the idea of the American Trump Riots should inform anyone of the uselessness of today's crowd. 9. Who cares about the chords. Is the song any good?
10. Sounds like it could be an interesting project. Good luck to them.
11.
Me, I love it, and would I much rather hear bass playing solo material, by a player with proficient skills and artistry like Michael Manring or Steve Lawson, than someone belting out dull old bass lines on a P bass strung with flats, no matter how 'locked' in they are with the drummer.
Forget about those dull old bass lines on a P bass strung with flats. What do you think of the songs they're in?
12. Someone buy this. It's the most a-peel-ing amp I've ever played. If you have a 4-ohm cab, volume will not be a concern....
13. Little walks and chromatic runs where needed. I tend to do a lot with note lengths, too. Palm muting comes in handy for this stuff.
14.
Here's Peggy ripping it up on some jigs & reels with Fairport in 1976:
In a similar vein, here's how we do it 'round our way... http://youtu.be/es6IlzWacGs?t=2m24s
15. A great tune. I actually prefer the alt. version with Dave & Rog's vox... I've got loads of faves... Echoes, Sheep, Not Now John, Fat Old Sun, SOYCD... just a great band.
16.
Flats arrived yesterday. Only had a chance to play with them through my little practice amp so far but already I can see what all the fuss is about a P with flats and I'm loving the feel too - including the increased tension as it goes. Can't wait to play through the full gigging rig at the weekend now .
Excellent... stick with them until they soften up. If you're finding them a bit 'grabby' at first, give them a rub doon with a cotton t-shirt.
17.
I think I thought of the flame because of someone mentioning it here
Ah, that was probably my fault :-)
18. Anyone got a decent close-up of a Sims guard? Is the stuff they use proper tort, or printed?
19. As we know, amps like this are loaded with all sorts of power management bits and bobs, so you can't compare volumes based on watts alone.
20. Good luck with the search. Spitfire do the only ones I've seen that look anywhere close, but they ain't cheap.
21. I doubt there'll be another punk (or Beatles, for that matter), precisely because of what you suggest - the music scene is so fragmented now. The best we can hope for is another Nirvana - something that gives the mainstream a kick up the arse.
22.
we're in desperate need of a Nirvana right now
I couldn't agree more... it's definitely time to get out the sweeping brush.
23. Blues? Funk? B.B. King & the Crusaders, surely? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFF7oxIqQtw
24. I'm half-tempted to merge this with the epic Beatles thread we already have...
25.
maybe the problem is with Cliff and his like is they try and get it too perfect, it loses the edginess
Cliff was old-school. The Beatles - at the time - were from a different place.
