1. IME most affordable small combos are toys. You need to shell out a bit for something decent. The Ibanez Promethean does it for me. Why they pulled the plug on it is a mystery to me.
2.
Btw, I wonder if between us we've made Somerset the county with the biggest M ownership in the UK?
I dunno - there's a fair few in Tyneside now :-)
3.
The Shads were always better without him.
Always..? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXTvZ8UVJvw
4. Apologies for the hijack, but if you're not committed to Wix yet, I'd take a good look at Bandzoogle too.
5. Cliff, man... what are you doing??
6. SImilarly: Monster Cables vs. Coathangers. No-one could tell the difference.
7. Here's a little clip from a gig this weekend.. you can get an idea at 3:10 how rich the DI is. It's sometimes tricky getting that kind of definition with flats. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDe22sXRDMg
8. Something from last night... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDe22sXRDMg
9.
I understood the fb post as 'this is our new model called Mopped'. That would be a strange name though. What's even stranger is only one knob, volume I suspect?
I was hoping the name was a typo...
10.
Very possible, however I didn't think Adrian did "custom" builds?
...but that's not to say he might not try something new from time-to-time...?
11. I suspect it's the first, and possibly only so far.
12. If someone buys it, they were happy to pay the price. Hi-fives all round.
13.
Awesome, is the wattage halved?
I think it's around 250w...? And yes, hit NancyJ up if you fancy a go of the Red Fighter...
14. Oooh... there's a new case style, too...
15. Yeah - I use mine at 8 all the time.
16. There's an English page for the R-400 up on the website now.
17.
They must have been strong drugs you were on it the 80s. Buzzcocks only started in 96
I think he's saying that PB didn't make any impression on him in the 80s, and that he only knows him from being on the telly a couple of times since.
18.
It would be a coincidence if it were true. But the ICEpower modules used in bass amps are power amps with an integrated power supply made to run on 120V/230V AC mains supplies, and car audio gear is made to run on a 12V or 24V DC battery supply. So I'd hazard a guess that the same modules are not being used in car audio.
OK - I'm learning stuff here. Still don't like it :-)
19. Ah... my entire contributon to this thread has been even more nonsense than usual. I thought we were taking about the TH500. Ha ha.
20.
As a moderator you are entitled to your opinion like anyone else but should not make unsubstantiated claims. ICEPower amps are designed for many purposes and the ICE part refers to the cool running not In Car Entertainment. There are many great Class D power sections out there from Companies such as Hypex, Pascal, Powersoft, Abletec and yes ICEPower. Of course it won't make it any better but you could put an output transformer on one of those to get the weight and Heft if you want. The SWR, Ampeg, Mesa heavy amps sound great because there are well designed not because they have a big old transformer at both ends. The TH500, in my opinion, is not well designed and it uses an underpowered module and poor heat management. If there is such a thing as heft, Aquiler have designed it out of the Tonehammer amps. Yes I am tetchy, I have the flu!
Settle down - 'car radio amps' is my tongue-in-cheek name for the micro crowd that use the ICE module. That the same modules are also used by charvas in their cars is just coincidence :-)
21.
You sounded bloody good (and pretty hefty) through my (very lightweight) rig at the Central bonny lad! ;-)
And yourself! But then the MarkBass doesn't use the car radio amp most of the others do :-)
22. I don't like to compromise tone or light weight (IMO) - that's why I've got what I've got.
