1.
now I'm a big Beatles fan, but how many times can they keep repackaging the same stuff? Reminds of an Ossie Osbourne quote after another Black Sabbath compilation, "it's like digging up a dead prostitute for one last f***" presumably Paul and Ringo have given their approval seeing as they're helping to promote it, do they really need the money, or is it just the adulation. Apparently George said in 1989 with a sigh "I guess it's never going to end"
Have you seen the film yet? What did you think?
 2. Ah, sorry - I'm getting my model numbers mixed up. In that case, you can disregard my comments as they apply to the P5110. I've never used the P3110, but from what I've read it's a different beast.
 3. Nice, lively performance. Some of those BVs sounded a bit... umm... 'precise', mind.
 4.
Used one fairly recently at a jam session. Nice combo - small, neat and very clean sounding. Punchy for their size, but you really need the add on speaker to get enough out of them to compete with a drummer.
And yes, I'd concur if you want to gig with one in anger with a drummer, you'll need the additional cab.
 5. The first Verizon is an incredible bit of kit. One of the most useful bits of gear I've ever bought.
 6.
How would they know I'd bought it in the USA?
They could ask to see a receipt for it...
 7. That's lovely!
Is that finish original? I'm not that up on old Fenders, but the dark part of the burst looks differently shaped from the typical Fender sunburst. Or did they vary like that?
It''s typical 70s 'burst fade... the red disappears through exposure to sunlight, leaving it pretty much 2-tone, while the back remains standard 3-tone.
 8. Hey gang! I hope you don't mind being gatecrashed by a Nawvenner :-) I'm currently in custody of a demo model of a Handbox Red Fighter head, and Leszek, the owner, is wondering if any trusted* BC members would like to use it for a while and take it to the bash. If you're interested, drop me a PM. I think someone is already bringing along his other model, the R-400. *I know you're all trustworthy really, but for obvious reasons it would need to be someone with a bit of a track record on BC :-)
 9. Nice to see something hit the market that isn't another ICE derivative. Looking forward to seeing how these pan out.
 10.
That's my point.
Yeah.. I think there were great swathes of time where he'd rather be off doing the garden.
 11.
I think George took a back seat because he wasn't enough of a fighter to battle the other two, especially Lennon.
From a guitar POV, he just struck me as lazy, or possibly someone with crushed confidence...
 12.
My ex's dad played in a Liverpool band called 'Them Grimbles' who played the same scene and occasionally on the same bill as The Beatles. He didn't know any of them that well but he reckons that George was the one that other bands were constantly trying to poach. Apparently from his early teens he was well known for being able to play pretty much anything after a couple of listens.
When I think of Ringo, Paul and John, I think of three lads / blokes who lived for music, who probably wouldn't want to do anything else. When I think of George, I think of someone who can play a bit who stuck with it 'cos his pals played too. (Guitar SKILLZ I'm talking about - not his role as a writer or general visionary)
 13.
You'll find plenty of people who'll say he was a truly gifted guitarist and changed the face of music
True, but my God... he was so half-arsed much of the time.
 14. Can't argue with either of those. Ringo's a great drummer. History should instead be questioning George's ability as a guitarist.
 15.
Yeah - that was mine!
Was it? God, my memory. It's ruined....
 16.
Well, yes - and the drop from 8 ohms to 4... but I did used to have a Barefaced Vintage remember, so I am used to what a 2x15 is capable of!
Yeah, the BF Vintage is a great cab. I really enjoyed using it when I had a loan of one. IMO the key thing you mentioned in your post earlier is 'presence'. It's hard to describe, but it's like being more authoritative at half the volume. It's a nice feeling.
 17. A good drummer will hit something because it needs to be hit. A bad drummer will hit something because they can.
 18.
I experienced a real eye-opener last week when I changed cabs from my Barefaced Compact (Gen 2) to this. The amp (Markbass LM2) was left exactly the same, except for having to turn the master volume down significantly! The difference in sound was quite remarkable. Not "louder" exactly, but just so much more tone, presence and authority - much greater harmonic richness. If I was ten years younger and gigged more often, I would have bought it, but at my stage in life I am happy with the compromises that my lightweight rig offers. On the other hand, I used a TH500 through a Barefaced Big One a while back, and I just couldn't get them to play nicely together at all! See here for a bit of ancient history... http://basschat.co.u...page__hl__th500 This just demonstrates the difference that the cabs can make
Switching from a 1x15 to a 2x15 is bound to make a significant difference... and a ceramic one at that (but let's not go down that route! )
 19. Martin Stoneham... http://stonehamamps.co.uk/ Although if Barry didn't want to take it apart...?
 20. Jazzes have more bottom end than a P. It's just in the wrong place :-)
 21. IME the issue isn't volume - sure, these amps *sound* like 500w. But they don't *feel* like it. So you turn 'enup to compensate... only it doesn't. It just gets louder. The big difference with traditional amps is they're just 'there', solid and present, at a reasonable volume.
 22. This is interesting. Until fairly recently, posts suggesting that micro heads lack 'something' have usually treated with hoots of derision. Over the last year or so though, I've noticed that the responses are just as likely to come from players who feel the same. So.. either there's something in it, or the 'imagining it' thing is contagious...
 23.
My only disclaimer is that most amplifiers run out of steam eventually and if you are trying to get your amp to deliver more volume than the cabinets are actually capable of outputting (Sensitivity and SPL), then yes you will lack punch. Get more sensitive cabinets or add more speakers, because a bigger amplifier (say going from 500 watts to 800 watts) will actually only add a few decibels to your overall volume.
This definitely isn't a dig at you Dood, but it's funny how, in this this world of micro amps, we're used to talking about upgrading from 500w to 800w without batting an eyelid. This would have been pretty much unheard of when old-school AB amps were the norm, unless you were a touring pro. There was just no need for it. It makes you wonder what's really going on under the hood of the Class D's. *cough* TC *cough*
