Hey gang A pal of mine has just picked up gorgeous CIJ Tele bass...strangely, it's gold, like Geddy's '68. I've had a mooch about, and I can't find another one like it. Anyone know anything about them..?

It's tighter and more focussed in the lows, and the mids are more effortless and expressive - they really respond as you dig in or lay back. Like the WA it has a beautiful top-end that's not harsh or sizzly... just natural and clear like a great DI. However, the R-400 does have a contour dial which attenuates the mids and pushes it into WA territory as you turn it. I leave it off, but a couple of people who've borrowed the amp preferred to dial a bit in. Driving the pre harder also thickens things out and fuzzes the edges up a bit. And of course it has the heft of the WA, with the bonus of more headroom :-)

[/quote] Hello! Yep, the WA is a great head, but in my opinion the R-400 leaves it in the dust. I've had it for what, four months now, but still every time I fire it up, I just set the knobs flat, hit a note, and smile. The smooth clarity is a revelation. Unfortunately I can't help you re: the WB100 valve head as I've never played one, and I think Leszek is still tweaking the spec. All I know is that the front-end is the same as the R-400, which IMO is a great thing. re: the 12AX7 - I'm not too technical, but is this the pic you're referring to? Let me know what you mean, and I'll ask Leszek...

Nah, as far as I'm aware there's only a couple of R-400's and a Red Fighter in the UK. No cabs or combos.

I've never seen a deluxe without 'Precision Bass' on the headstock, with the logo that close to the edge..? Apart from that, it seems legit.

As an aside, MM's playing on Jean Michel Jarre's Zoolook LP is one of the things that got me into bass playing as a young lad. He gets around, that lad.
