1. Here's a bit of a jam I recorded this morning. P pickup, flats, tone rolled off > R-400 with drive & bright engaged, tone flat > POST DI > laptop. http://youtu.be/tLOMYWj1GUA
2. En-route to me right now.... :-)
3. ..and he's just sent me a pic of the back of mine. OOOOOF!
4. Forgot to mention - the lollipop tuners are special order Hipshot Ultralites, and the whole bass weighs... 7.3lbs. :-)
5.
Very nicely made....
Isn't it? Hand-built, too.
How are the overdriven sounds out of this thing?
I'll do some sound clips when I get a chance, but when it comes to overdrive, I'm probably not a great judge of what is and isn't good...
6. Very recently... Midgue Ure. I chatted to him for a while about a mutual acquaintance. It was only afterwards someone mentioned in passing that it was him. I felt very foolish.
7.
Stunning Back of the neck shot please, need to see that flame!
Yeah - me too!
8. Drop him a mail - he's just got back from the workshop with a batch. I mailed him at just the right time :-)
9. Ha. Here it is in its full sofa shot glory:
10. I'm just going to leave this here...
11. I'm not going to mention heft. Instead, I'm going to suggest you have a look at this amp from HandBox. Compact and lovely.
12.
I may have incorrectly assumed the Bassculture Bigbucker was an off the shelf pickup model, is it not? Iv also apparently incorrectly assumed this was a stock model and up for sale for the price listed!
Ah, no - you're right. I thought the basses of the month were generally custom-builds...
13.
Its a stunning instrument, but ruined by the pickup design. No need for them to resemble Wal so accurately, cheapens the whole thing for me
I'm guessing that's what the customer asked for...
14.
dictionary.com: heft noun 1. weight; heaviness: It was a rather flimsy chair, without much heft to it. 2. significance or importance. 3. Archaic. the bulk or main part.
...and there you have it.
15.
I'll fetch a cloth.
Could you bring a couple of 'em, please?
16.
Going to hint at any spec yet? Si
Nah. I'm waiting for the sofa shot :-)
17. My 10-week alarm clock has just started to ring. :-)
18. Oh my word. I was just thinking how much I'd like one of these. And I'm in Northumberland(-ish) too. Gah.
19.
Of no particular relevance, I was having a drink last week with the former Lindisfarne member who played mandolin on Maggie May. I could ask him about the bass next time I see him.
Jacka. Great player. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RqcL4QlAKA
20. What's the working conditions like in the factories these days? This isn't a loaded question - I genuinely don't know.
21. Yeah, there's a clanger, but it's got so much more life than the polished-to-blandness stuff populating the chart these days.
22. This is a lot of bass for £550 - the pre is £100 and the pickups are £130...
23. Fab. Nice to see him back in love with the bass... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhZ3RI2NAls
24.
Bit of a silly question but how would I go about valuing my bass, do I just put the RRP? or what it's worth to me? or something else entirely? eg, my Lull was sold by Bass Direct for something like £3400 but I brought it off the original buyer for a price nowhere near that, maybe around £1300ish. So if I was to put down £1300, I couldn't replace it like-for-like but I also didn't spend £3500 either. Never really dealt with insuring things before as I don't drive!
Insure it for whatever it will cost to replace.
25. I'm not sure about the 4-day thing, but give New Moon Insurance a bell. Or join the MU - their limit is capped quite low, though...
