1. Drop him a mail - he's just got back from the workshop with a batch. I mailed him at just the right time :-)
2. Ha. Here it is in its full sofa shot glory:
3. I'm just going to leave this here...
4. I'm not going to mention heft. Instead, I'm going to suggest you have a look at this amp from HandBox. Compact and lovely.
5.
I may have incorrectly assumed the Bassculture Bigbucker was an off the shelf pickup model, is it not? Iv also apparently incorrectly assumed this was a stock model and up for sale for the price listed!
Ah, no - you're right. I thought the basses of the month were generally custom-builds...
6.
Its a stunning instrument, but ruined by the pickup design. No need for them to resemble Wal so accurately, cheapens the whole thing for me
I'm guessing that's what the customer asked for...
7. 8.
I'll fetch a cloth.
Could you bring a couple of 'em, please?
9.
Going to hint at any spec yet? Si
Nah. I'm waiting for the sofa shot :-)
10. My 10-week alarm clock has just started to ring. :-)
11. Oh my word. I was just thinking how much I'd like one of these. And I'm in Northumberland(-ish) too. Gah.
12.
Of no particular relevance, I was having a drink last week with the former Lindisfarne member who played mandolin on Maggie May. I could ask him about the bass next time I see him.
Jacka. Great player. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RqcL4QlAKA
13. What's the working conditions like in the factories these days? This isn't a loaded question - I genuinely don't know.
14. Yeah, there's a clanger, but it's got so much more life than the polished-to-blandness stuff populating the chart these days.
15. This is a lot of bass for £550 - the pre is £100 and the pickups are £130...
16. Fab. Nice to see him back in love with the bass... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhZ3RI2NAls
17.
Bit of a silly question but how would I go about valuing my bass, do I just put the RRP? or what it's worth to me? or something else entirely? eg, my Lull was sold by Bass Direct for something like £3400 but I brought it off the original buyer for a price nowhere near that, maybe around £1300ish. So if I was to put down £1300, I couldn't replace it like-for-like but I also didn't spend £3500 either. Never really dealt with insuring things before as I don't drive!
Insure it for whatever it will cost to replace.
18. I'm not sure about the 4-day thing, but give New Moon Insurance a bell. Or join the MU - their limit is capped quite low, though...
19.
Now that is some nice neat constuction and a lovely big toroidal xformer. Impressive.
I know nowt about electrrical engineering so I'll have to take your word for it . According to Leszek, each one is hand-made... 'Mine' is with another BCer at the moment who is giving it a run out - I've got a couple of gigs next weekend, and I'm looking forward to giving it another run out. I've got my order placed...
20. Here's some gratuitous topless shots of the R-400...
21. Hey gang! I've just got back from a couple of gigs at Costa Del Folk in Mallorca. Lots of fun and lovely weather, but incredibly hard work (honest). We were supposed to close the show on the Saturday night, but the desk decided to blue-screen during the Oysterband's set, and it lost our config (cheers, Digico!). Instead, the Oysterband soldiered on through a slightly elongated set, and we were moved to close the Sunday night instead. Only problem was, we were also playing on the Sunday afternoon in a slightly different config under a different name (it's complicated). So we had to do ANOTHER check on Sunday morning, then a gig on the afternoon, then rip it all up and reset it at tea-time, then do the show at 11pm, finishing at 12:30am. Then go and pack, ready for the 7:15am bus to the airport the next morning. Knackered, but wouldn't have missed it for anything. Here's some pics: http://www.lindisfarnestory.co.uk/mallorca-2016
22. The website is back up again (Google translate comes in handy, and is occasionally hilarious) www.handbox.pl
23.
What's the pattern?... Interested to hear your view as I'm relatively new to class D.
I'm on my phone and it's a faff to type too much - just do a search for any Class D thread on BC and you'll see the debate.
24. Having played Class D heads extensively for over a decade, and spotted a pattern, I've learned to trust my ears :-)
25. Sorry - that's just me being mischievous based on what ICE stands for, and what one of the original goals of the module was. :-) Anyway, until someone can confirm if the pro-audio guys are using the same generation and deployment of technology as the (for example) RH450, I remain to be convinced.
