1. Cheers, folks. A quick bump for any more input (pun not intended)...
2. Hey gang On the assumption it's well implemented, how practical is the James / Baxandall tone stack for a bass head? I know there's only a bass and a treble knob, and you can 'boost' the mids by rolling them both off and increasing the gain. How useable is it in the real world? Any experience...? Pros, cons? Thanks, all!
3. I'm off to Costa Del Folk in Majorca in a few weeks. Looking forward to that one. Apart form that, I'm playing at a few of the rootsier festivals - Beverley Festival, Music on the Marr, Clennell Hall... always good fun.
4. Same story for mine - lowest action ever. A tweak and it was sorted. Mind, the advice about hanging on a bit for it to settle is sensible.
5. Hmm.. I'm not sure Tal has helped shape modern music..
6. Here's a great tool I've found which will help if you're struggling to visualise your Maruszczyk custom build... http://www.ysw-tct.com/tct/default.asp?func=KIJI&kiji=20141229114253.asp#Kisekae_VIM
7. I've been having SO MUCH FUN with this. I should really get out more. http://www.ysw-tct.com/tct/default.asp?func=KIJI&kiji=20141229114253.asp#Kisekae_VIM
8. Ah, gotta love saucy photos from the Maryszczyk casting couch. I'm still at least seven weeks from mine. Assuming I stop changing the spec.
9. Nah, I should make my mind up quicker :-)
10.
I would've walked away and dialed 999. As I said, it's assault plain and simple. I'd be happier a f***-nut like this is properly dealt with than any short term satisfaction of retaliation. Can I ask why you did not consider calling the Police?
This would have been my approach, too, just as if I'd seen it happen in the street.
11. Ma-roosh-chick.
12. Pugh? Pugh? (His brother) Barney McGrew? Cuthbert? Dibble? Grub?
13. Kate Adie? The bloke that empties the bins at Tiverton parkway train station? Bernard Cribbins? Lech Wałęsa? The Supremes? Lembit Opik? My dentist?
14.
Fair point but personally I don't think the output stage is the biggest factor. I suspect the lack of 'heft' is down to inadequate power supplies and the 'tone' of the amp is down to tone shaping in the pre amp stages. My feeling is that it's all in the implementation, class D/SMPS power supplies are still in the early days and people are still rushing out 'me too' products, often with a mass of digital processing going on. Over time people will stop obsessing over lightweight and will buy on the basis of sound alone. Manufacturers will have to up their game in this area and the killer amps of the future will probably be class D.
My point exactly - it's just not 'there' yet. Too much tinkering under the hood, too much BS around output power. There's still a while to go before consumer-level bass heads catch up with what the pro audio rigs are packin'.
15. Look out for this epic new advancement in tuner technology coming soon. I hear they're really good.
16.
There's nothing intrinsically wrong about Class D/lightweight amps but they are all different.. *snip*
As different as amps that generally use the same power module can be... :-)
17. I'm intrigued by this! What does it put into 8ohm? Can you post a pic of all the knobs etc, please? What's the gig bag like? Ta.
18. Hey gang So I've been doing this internet thing since the 90s, building websites for my bands and others. Recently, I needed to get something pretty comprehensive together in a bit of a hurry. As I've been struggling for time, I thought I'd check out Bandzoogle and save myself some graft. It's pretty comprehensive, and you get the whole shebang - blog pages, merch, downloads, forms, etc. etc. all for just a few quid a month. There's only a handful of useable templates on there (IMO), but they're photography based, so if you have decent shots to work with, it's not a problem. I'm going to move loads of my sites over to them. I know loads of BC'ers probably use it already, but it's a bit of a revelation to me. Highly recommended...
19.
I keep looking at this which I like a lot... but I'm not really into shiny new basses, so it's fairly easy to resist.
I wasn't into shiny new basses either, but my Jake defeated me...
20. No Neil Young thread is complete until a link to Computer Cowboy is posted. Awesome and bonkers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izU_lVASxZw
21.
It's certainly some of the best broom playing I've ever heard.
I used to be a pretty sweet broom player, but I've let it slip over the years. I must brush up on it.
22. Yikes. The TKS S112 can be had for less than £400
