That body and pup config is lush!! Why not ask a reputable UK luthier (John Shuker comes to mind) to change the fingerboard over to a rosewood one? Might be cheaper and quicker that way. The weight of your bass here is perfect inmo, just a lil job to get it perfect.
Cheers! It's something I've considered, but I think I'd rather keep it stock, and sell it and put a new order in.

The Eagles one is great, as is Beware of Mr. Baker and Muscle Shoals. No mention so far of What Happened, Miss Simone? - an incredible Nine Simone doc which I think is still on Netflix.

Most of the time it's not about how well they perform when they're pushed to their extremities. It's about what they sound like played at a reasonable gig volume.

Numbers can be twisted to mean anything, so I rely on my ears and real world reports from others. It works a treat.

I wonder if we've all got a bit caught up in the hunt for the perfect flat response / hi-fi / super sensitive / massive handling etc. cab over recent years, and forgotten that - for a lot of us at least - a nice driver in a good, well designed & built box gives us the classic bass sound we've got in our heads after all. That's what happened to me, anyway...!

It's a beautiful thing. Nice one!
I was talking to a High end amp maker the other day and he said they had considered Class D at some point but he was very very sceptical about some of the power ratings that are claimed. This tallies with my thinking that the only two amps I've used recently that put out something close to what they say they do are the Thunderfunk 550-B and the DB750. Of course, these are not class D, and you only have to be as loud as you need to be so a figure is largely useless... but I know what amps will fill which sort of stages and room and how hard I have to drive them to do it. And I know which ones don't...and have no chance. Because of the way I play, I don't get the input stage really working hard so I go for a bigger amp, and it is at this point, I'm thinking how much guts the amp has. So call me sceptical as well.
Yup. Kudos to EBS for being more honest with the ratings for the Reidmar. Like a handful of others, I've been saying for a long time that the current Class D's aren't all they're cracked up to be. It's diet vs. full-fat Coke, and I think more people are starting to realise. Some people like the baked-in side-effects of course, and that's fine.

Here's something from this weekend. For various reasons we didn't have a drummer, so we just cracked on without... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKHPOcIuMTI
I disagree, the K10 running my dual 15" wedges sounds great, it's also nearly $10,000 for 2 channels! The Class D bass amps on the market are largely just plain 'cheap' and sound like it.
This is my take on it, too. Until the high-end stuff filters down to consumer level, it ain't for me.

Okey doke - I've just finished a run of gigs with it. From a playing POV, and sonically, I adore it and I'm going to keep using it. But I'll just never click with it visually, as much as I'd like. Here's a song from last night's gig with a pretty intense acoustic band: And a few more pics...
what is the hardwate on the jake like? can the p pups be swapped out for standard p sized pups (|SPD1/3 etc and what are their own pups like? id want to fit a drop d tuner what size and type of tuners do they fit?
The hardware is all good. The tuners are usually their own, P-style, but they use Hipshots etc. when needed. Best drop Adrian a mail and ask him. As for pickups, both the Haussels in my 'burst and Maruszczyks in my new white one are marvellous. The Maruszczyks seem hotter and growlier (but that might be down to other factors). There's a lovely red Jake knocking around Tyneside (was owned by Warwickhunt, recently sold on to another player around here) that has an aftermarket DiMarzio in it - whether it was a straight drop-in or not, I don't know. Again, Adrian will be able to let you know.

My hunt for lightweight ceramic cabs was doomed to failure until I stumbled across TKS. Happy days ever since:
WoT, like seemingly everyone on BC I'm contemplating buying one of these. I'm curious that the maple board makes such a big difference. Is it just the maple board or the whole neck profile on this one that you don't like? I'm flipping between maple and rosewood so any light you can shed on the difference in sound/playability between maple and rw on the Maruszczyk would be helpful. Cheers, Ian
The neck profile is 'normal', which is narrower and shallower than I'm used to (my 71's and other Jake are chunky). I've got used to that straight away, though. It's purely just that when I look down, there's maple where I'm used to seeing a nice dark 'board. I'd rather see rosewood, that's all. It's a bit growlier than my other Jake, which could be down to different pickups, maple board, or none of the above. :-)
-
really?
Yep - my own fault. I thought a maple board would be nice alternative, but it turns out I'm dyed-in-the-wool rosewood. Adrian won't send me a neck 'cos they're carefully matched to the bodies, so... here I am. As soon as it sells, my order is going in for another.

OK, OK... Let's get the abuse out of the way with first. Yes, I've only had this for just over a week. :-) I bought off-the-shelf direct from Maruszczyk. It's great - really, it is. This is the third of these I've played, and it's on a par with the others. It weighs 7lbs 6ozs. I'm selling it for one reason alone: I've realised I prefer rosewood to maple. It's a truly great bass - I've gigged it, and I'll be happily gigging it until it sells, but at the back of my mind I'll be thinking 'if only it was rosewood'. So when this sells, my order will be going in for another Jake. I'm based just north of Newcastle if you'd like to come and try it. Here's the specs of this exact bass (taken from Maruszczyk's website): MARUSZCZYK INSTRUMENTS JAKE L4p+ 'Vintage white' - € 990,00 NEW

Body: alder
Neck: hard rock maple
Fingerboard: maple, 21 frets
Nut width: 40mm
Construction: bolt on
Pickguard: tortoise
Pickups: Maruszczyk humbucker + split coil
Electronics: passive - volume, volume, tone
Finish: vintage white, body gloss/neck matte
Hardware: chrome, 19mm string spacing
Weight: 3,39kg / 7lbs 6ozs.
incl. Gigbag
Here's some pics with the protective wrap still on the pickguard (since removed): Here it is with flats - I'll do a clip with rounds when I get a chance:
I like the threads where WoT mentions Maruszczyk
Eh? But I haven't mentioned them once..?* *on this thread. Yet.
