1.
You got a link to the Richard Bona thing WOT?
This pretty much summarises it: http://www.talkbass.com/threads/bona-tecamp.1193765/ TBH, I know nowt about Richard Bona, but he was flying off the handle.. a little too much, IMO. Something just didn't feel right about it. The TB thread above suggests there's definitely two sides to this one.
2.
Richard Bona first angry ........... now this!
Yeah - the Bona thing was a bit messy...
3. You'll get loads of different recommendations for this of course, but mine would be to look into the TKS S212. Light, well-built, great tone with lovely mids.
4.
I believe he is going to unveil his own logo in the near future. The bass plays (and sounds) as good as it looks for sure, thanks.
That's good news. I hope it's in keeping with a classic Fender vibe, (and miles away from Bass Collection's)..
5. That is LUSH. Probably the best I've seen yet. Nice one!
6. I trust you did the obligatory Lemmy tribute?
7. I'm still not quite getting this. It does a lot of things, but IMO none are a problem waiting to be solved. £600 is a lot of scratch for a few vaguely useful (and not-so-useful) features. Good luck to 'em, though.
8. Has Smells Like Teen Spirit been mentioned? Played out of context, I reckon a significant proportion of non-musos would recognise that line.
9.
Really......
Me neither. Had to look it up, and I don't exactly live a sheltered life..
10.
This would get my vote, along with possibly the Beatles "Day Tripper". IMO "The Chain" would be a fair bit down the list.
Those two tunes are just doubling the guitar, though. Are people recognising the bass part, or the guitar part..?
11.
For me it would be pretty much anything by The Rolling Stones - I've honestly given it a good go and even learned to play a few songs to jam with some friends but I just cannot get into it. 'Paint it Black' being an all time low...
I like lots of \stones stuff, but Paint it, Black is dreadful. A mess of a song with no purpose. But then, it's pretty popular so what do I know?
12.
I watched a making of rumours doc on fleetwood mac a little while back on the train and was gear watching as you do and saw all manner of boutique basses in the shots of mcvie (alembics etc.) and then the bit of him playing the chain (like in this vid) is on a hamer cruise bass- the same model I had sold the previous day for very little money. if only I had known I could have bumped up the price a bit!
'Twas an Aembic with a fretless aluminium neck, apparently...?
13.
I'm guessing either my email is suspect or he's taken some time off.
Time off I imagine, with it being Christmas and that.
14.
I wouldn't normally as I'm not a patch on some of the players around these parts, but my band recently did a tribute set to Lynyrd Skynyrd at a multi-band tribute show at our local O2 Academy and I had the great pleasure to have my youngest daughter up there with me as one of the 'honkettes' backing singers. Its a truncated version due to a 40 min set limit but here's our take on the classic Freebird. https://www.youtube....eature=youtu.be Bass = Overwater J5 with J-Retro; Amp = Aguilar AG500; Cabs = 2 x Ampeg Classic 4x10's (provided by venue/promoter); Line 6 G50 Wireless
That's fab, that. Looked like a great night...
15.
Yeah yeah, I know but the site needs to know if theres issues with certain browsers does it not?
It's something we're aware of - it never worked too well with IE in Metro mode, either.
16. https://www.google.com/chrome/
17. It's fine for me on't iPhone, apart from the knackered 'next page' link issue, which a few others seems to be having.
18. Here's a vid of my white one with rounds on it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t36vobH9FpE
19.
That body and pup config is lush!! Why not ask a reputable UK luthier (John Shuker comes to mind) to change the fingerboard over to a rosewood one? Might be cheaper and quicker that way. The weight of your bass here is perfect inmo, just a lil job to get it perfect.
Cheers! It's something I've considered, but I think I'd rather keep it stock, and sell it and put a new order in.
20. A shabby video wot I have made with roundwound strings and that... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t36vobH9FpE&feature=em-uploademail
21. The Eagles one is great, as is Beware of Mr. Baker and Muscle Shoals. No mention so far of What Happened, Miss Simone? - an incredible Nine Simone doc which I think is still on Netflix.
22. Most of the time it's not about how well they perform when they're pushed to their extremities. It's about what they sound like played at a reasonable gig volume.
23. Numbers can be twisted to mean anything, so I rely on my ears and real world reports from others. It works a treat.
24. I wonder if we've all got a bit caught up in the hunt for the perfect flat response / hi-fi / super sensitive / massive handling etc. cab over recent years, and forgotten that - for a lot of us at least - a nice driver in a good, well designed & built box gives us the classic bass sound we've got in our heads after all. That's what happened to me, anyway...!
25. It's a beautiful thing. Nice one!
