1.
I feel this is about to become another Marsujyzyjukxzz or however It's spelt thread....!!
You said it. I wasn't going to
 2.
Why should the location of the factory will have any bearing on the quality or price of an instrument?
Quality? Didn't say it does.
 3.
It says that the standard series are made in Korea, but the Bob Glaub is a USA bass - http://dlakinbasses.com/prices/ This is not something that I'm looking for, but I have no issues with country of origin or indeed price for the right instrument.
If it's a grand, it's not the USA model. As for it being a bad thing - I didn't say it was. But production is presumably in the Far East to keep costs down. I don't see much evidence of the savings being passed to the consumer.
 4. £1000 for a bass made in Indonesia (or Korea - can't remember)? A bit steep, IMO.
 5. Which ones? The standard Jakes? Just a bit of a rounder lower horn. It stops you pricking your finger on it :-D
 6. Oh... you should have said earlier. In that case - Maruszczyk. I was hanging on for the new Lakland Skyline PJ with blocks. When it came out, they couldn't guarantee the weight, and a lot of the parts a aren't the best quality. When I spotted the Jakes, I couldn't believe my luck. My exact spec, for a few hundred quid less, and it's not made in Indonesia. IMO, anyone considering a Lakland, Sandberg, Fender, wether USA, German, Japanese. Indonesian or otherwise, should at least check these out first. I'm painfully aware that I bang on about them all the time, but I'm doing everyone a favour :-)
 7.
You Sir, are so correct. A true Precision, is a Fender Precision.
But not necessarily the 'best', as sought by the OP.
 8.
It was solo. Must say the results really surprised me.
I always take how a bass sounds in isolation with a pinch of salt...
 9.
If I was Fender, I'd be livid that this was even a discussion or that the question even needed to be asked.
They should have been on top of this a loooong time ago...
 10.
It was done with me playing each bass from behind a curtain - with the amp on stage in front of the curtain - the audience didn`t know what bass I was playing, they just voted purely on what they heard.
Was it in a band context, or solo...?
 11.
Oh my! These would be right what I'm looking for if they weren't on the skinner side at the nut, would really have to play one.I I'm currently looking for a P to hot rod or a P style bass as my new main bass in a new project, but I'm yet to find something suitable anywhere with a nut bigger than 40mm. I'm used to 44mm. Anything less than 40mm feels a little uncomfortable to me, which is why I don't get on with Jazz basses. Alas, my search continues! I absolutely love the Yamaha BB basses, but the neck I don't gel too well with, though may resort to just bucking up on that one! Edit: Could some one divulge a little further into their ordering experiences in terms of what options are available? I've seen wateroftyne's thread on his NBD - Maruszczyk Jake PJ and it has me curious. The bodyshape looks a little funny to me on the lower horn to me, but if the rest fits, I can more than live with that!
Just tell 'em what size neck you want and they'll do it. They nailed the chunky profile of my '71P (41mm nut, 24mm thick). I might be wrong, but I think what you're noticing about the lower horn is actually the pickguard shape. Fender's taper to a sharper point.
 12.
michael I thought you were a fender man?
I still am... kind-of. I've still got my '71s, but I stumbled across Maru.. err, I mean them who must not be spoken - earlier this year when I was looking for a specific spec P. I was properly blown away and I've barely touched the Fenders since. If Fender did anything comparable I would have been there first, but they don't, so...
 13.
When are we changing the forum name to maruszczykchat?
Hopefully never - barely anyone would be able to spell it.
 14.
I disagree again, look at the multitude of suggestions!
Hmmm?
 15.
I want to try one of these!
Maruszczyk do something similar for about £650...
 16.
To me, the comment "aimless noodling" regarding Jaco sounds ignorant. That's my opinion.
A fair chunk of what Jaco plays sounds like aimless noodling to me - as in, it's there for the sake of it and doesn't really have any musical value. We just like different stuff, 'ol Jaco & I.
 17.
Quite! This question has so many answers that it will become ridiculous.
I disagree - the OP admits he's a bit out-of-the-loop. This thread will probably alert him to a number of options he wasn't familiar with previously.
 18. Maruszczyk. I can't fault 'em.
 19. Or this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_o4omd8T5c ..to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5ntRwfKD38 ..and squillions of other examples...
 20. My stock answer for this: There's dogs and diamonds in every era. '74-'80 can be a bit 'challenging'.
 21. They're really pretty light - IMO, this and the Walkabout are the perfect balance of weight and full-fat tone.
 22. I used it last night at a rehearsal before our run of gigs over the next couple of weeks, and it sounded beautiful. It's definitely a bit more aggressive than my 3TSB, so I've got a nice contrast there. The narrow neck and maple board is something I wasn't really used to, but I don't really think about them now - it just feels great.
 23. Maruszczyk will build one for you for a very reasonable price...
 24.
Following on from the Jaco thread... Rush are another band I have never heard. Any suggestions? I could do with something to listen to on the way home tonight...
It kinda depends what you're into - there's lots of Rushes. Moving Pictures or Permanent Waves would be a good start. But... if you like stuff a bit poppier / glossier, maybe Power Windows. Or if you like it heavier, go back to 2112. Proggier? A Farewell to Kings or Hemispheres. 80s new-wave? Signals. I can't recommend anything post-Counterparts, 'cos I don't really rate it. Plenty of people do, though.
 25.
As much as I love Rush I consider it a relief to be honest....their recent output turned me off. Knowing when its time to call it a day is all about timing - pardon the pun.
Yup. R40 is the first Rush release I haven't bought since I started following them in the late 80s. It just seems phoned in.
