1.
Obviously a P-Bass has certain sound characteristics but it is not as tho all of them by the same maker sound the sound.. so the difference between the 2 examples are just that..THE two examples recorded. Put another two up from the same makers and I'd be pretty sure they'd have sound differences.
Oi fink we noe dat :-)
 2. Cheers for playing along, (almost) everyone. And the answer is: Precision, then Jake.
 3.
Your welcome.
What you up to today, then? Owt exciting?
 4.
Who cares!
Thanks for taking the time to contribute. It means a lot.
 5. Well, I can reveal that... some of you have got it right. (FWIW, if I had to guess, I would have got it wrong too)
 6. Hmm... serial numbers aside, it' still a pretty unique instrument...
 7.
Have you ever heard the version from the Concert For Bangladesh? - Klaus Voormann does a great job with it although he simplified the A minor twiddley bit.
The line works well here, 'cos Ringo and Jim are playing a more conventional drum part. It makes me wonder if the hi-hats were taken out of the studio version during the mix.
 8.
Looks like a Deluxe Active Precision Special to me, with upgraded bridge and pups.
Aren't they MIM...?
 9. Pretty! Was it a standard P originally? I'm not aware of any American special PJ's..?
 10.
So there's a source that tells us that Harrison thought This is just another of the myths to emerge from the acrimonious Beatles break-up. Things may (or may not) have been said that were over the top and not really meant.
Paul McCartney should really stop spreading nonsensical Beatles myths :-)
 11.
Perhaps you had to be there at the time...
The bloke who wrote it was, and he doesn't like it either :-)
 12. I knew they were similar, but I was surprised they're as close as they are, given that the Jake is chambered and has the J in the circuit (albeit dialled out), and the P has 40-year-old magnets in the pickups. Love 'em both, but the Jake goes with me to gigs these days.
 13. Hey gang I was bored this afternoon, so for fun I thought I'd AB my 1971 Precision and Maruszczyk Jake PJ. Here's 40 seconds of each - both with GHS flats, through a Mesa Walkabout. Tone backed off slightly - EQ the same on each. Which is which? Can you tell?
 14.
I feel your pain, I had horrendous issues with my Kilo last year. It died suddenly like yours mid gig so I sent it off to Dawsons music where I'd bought it. Two weeks later I'd heard nothing so after chasing like crazy it turned out they hadn't even sent it for repair yet (they have to go to Korg for repair) I blew my lid on here and luckily a chap called Gareth who works for Hartke saw my post and intervened. It finally got sent away, fixed and returned (turns out I live less then 10 miles from where it was fixed in milton keynes). Two gigs later in the middle of a wedding it died again..GRRR. I contacted Gareth again but he didn't respond to any of my messages so I had to arrange to drive the amp to Korg again for a repair. It took two weeks and loads of calls before I could pick it up again. When I got it home I found they had damaged the front of the amp. I was beside myself with anger. I phoned them and they agreed to put a new front on it. By this point I had done lots of trawling online and it seems there are loads of reports of these failing and Hartke were well aware of there being an issue. I therefore tried Gareth at Hartke again but no joy so I directly messaged Larry Hartke and again nothing. Before I had a chance to send it back for the face repair it died again. That was the last straw. I binned it and have vowed never ever ever to get involved with Hartke gear again.
Wow.. that's a shocker. I thought Hartke CS was better than that.
 15. Another great gone... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z91l_lPz1oc
 16.
I'm using Lakland flats but have tried basses with La Bella's and TI flats on. If I was replacing my strings I'd get another set of Laklands.
They don't make 'em any more - they sell GHS now, which seem to be the same anyway.
 17.
there's not much else going on....
Which is why the bass is so wrong, IMO.
 18.
I can understand a guitarist saying it's too busy but not a bass player, how dare you sir
Ha... I'm very much with GH on this one. It sounds to me like an early take that Macca's hoyed all his ideas in, and hasn't got around to editing what's needed and what isn't.
 19. Apparently George never really liked the bass part - he thought it too busy. I agree, tbh...
 20. How do they sound on the gig compared to the other stuff? Thats all that counts, IMO. If they sound great there, then... result!
 21. The GHS Precision flats are great too, and pretty reasonable compared to most when you order them direct from Lakland's website. I prefer them slightly to the La Bella's I used for years before.
 22. I had two, and went off them eventually 'cos the build quality was dreadful, and the tone was tiring.
 23.
Don't take it personally mate. I'm glad you know what's best for you. I also know what's best for me personally, and that is to lose a couple of stone instead of a couple of hours sleep every night due to compressed discs. I just stopped blaming my own situation on my bass. We're all different aren't we?
I'm doing that as well (have been for years with no luck - ha ha) but.. even if I wasn't, why is using a lighter bass to ease any pain such an odd concept?
