One of the best bits of musical advice I ever received: Years ago I got a gig playing with a bunch of very respected musicians who I admired greatly. I put the work in, and after the rehearsal of the first song, I was confident I’d nailed it. Drummer politely chimes up: “Let’s do it again, but this time play half the amount of notes.” Nailed it. Again. ”OK… once more, but this time lose another half again, and we should be good.” I listened back and you know what? He was bang on.

If budget is tight, and you want something useable, get some pals in and shoot it handheld with phones. They tend to be stabilised and have better dynamic range than zoom stuff, which in gig lighting is either very noisy, or blows out the highlights. You can always drop the audio in from a zoom recorder.

They really need to jack it in. They're just dreadful, in the studio and live. In the meantime, Jon Anderson is on the road having a whale of a time with the Band Geeks, playing Yes stuff with energy and enthusiasm (and apparently Boris Johnson on drums).

I would say so. Anything that introduces an element of doubt would. That said, it’s not an unusual occurrence, and it seems to be legit.

I dunno. We’re talking a lot of money here, so if you’re going to fake it your story had better be watertight. Presumably the guy was fairly well known around that circuit, and people could vouch for the bass… or flag it if it’s fishy.

Of course the story is important. For romantic reasons and because you know what you’re getting. The alternative is to pay less for something with a sketchy history, which of course is the more common route. As for the price, this is a 61 - not a 62 or 63. There really can’t be many of these in the UK. Regarding the case, I seem to recall that imports didn’t come with one, and Arbiter provided their own? Might well be wrong on that, mind.

At this level, along with the known history, I think it does (assuming there’s plenty of wiggle-room on the asking price).
