Yep. Got so much GAS still for an unlined fretless P since I discovered the YouTube vids of yours WOT, so much that I'm going to get an ebony board fitted on my Squier P5... Crazy? Who cares! (all your fault though )
Mwahahahahahaaaaaaa

I had a couple of the bigger ones back in the day. I never quite got on with the sound - they were both a bit scooped to my ears - and the build quality of the second cab left a lot to be desired. Although I never tried one, the smaller cabs (1210 and 1212) got a lot of praise.

'What if?' - fuelling GAS since time immemorial.
To what extent do you think you're a trend setter? Much power to install GAS comes from being a highly regarded and respected forum regular.
I'm not a trendsetter. I just like finding out about great stuff that's a bit off-the-radar (Limelight, Maruszczyk, TKS). And then I enthuse about it (or not, if I don't like it).
Do you remember a few years ago there were always adverts up on eBay for what alluded to be parts of 'Signature' branded basses...generally Jazz and Precision parts. I had a brief exchange with Dudepit/Steve Barr who said the original run of Signature guitars had some financial backing (in a small way) from Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee, but the company went bust leaving a flood of parts finding their way onto eBay. I had no reason to doubt this. Why do I mention this? Rush have a song called Limelight.
Yep - Alex plays one of those Signatures on the Hold Your Fire tour. The Signature parts that appeared on Ebay were nowt to do with those, though. It was just a bit of creative marketing..
While I've now intention of buying one, this has crossed my mind as well.
I think the necks are Allparts. The rest.. I dunno. None of if felt cheap, though.
Is that bench an original 60s model or a modern relic'd version?
That you have to ask suggests the relic'ing is a pretty good job :-)
-
If you ask.
Really? They could build something like this for less than 900 quid?

ACG do fairly trad looking Fender shapes?
-
The thing with Limelight is that they're meeting a demand in the marketplace. If you want a certain-spec bass, with a particular level of relic'ing that appeals to you, for a reasonable price, there's just nowhere else to go. As for Marusczcyk, I just find them remarkable. If there's another builder who can compete with them, I don't know who they are.
The reasons for selling on may be GAS, as there`s always a better bass round the corner waiting to be bought, or that people find that no matter how much they like them, they`re not Fenders. Don`t know about that last part for anyone else, but that`s what would be going round in my head.
In my case, it was pivotal in making me realise Fenders aren't the be-all and end-all.
so why sell it? im sorry but this is the bit i dont get
It's all in the Limelight threads if you do a search. I was on the hunt for an old P. I happened across a Limelight J, and it was marvellous, so I bought it. I was so impressed, I really wanted a P, so I sold it to pay for one. In the meantime, I got a chance to spec my dream bass from another builder at a price I could afford, so I did that instead. If Limelight did P's to the exact spec I wanted, I'd probably have a couple of 'em now. As I don't own one, and I don't have one to sell, I don't need to be a fanboi. Quite simple"y, they're just excellent basses for great prices, and it's nice to have 'em out there on the market.
Ever tried one? Me neither.
I have. It was awesome.
I emailed him now. I hope he does - im not a fan of the fake aged thing. I respect how difficult it must be etc but it's not for me.
If he doesn't do non-relics, I strongly recommend you chat to Adrian at Maruszczyk...
-
I've done a search on the forum and understand that people are very happy with them. I also read that Mark doesn't do sunburst. Does anyone have a Limelight bass that isn't aged though?
I don't think he does them.
Well after some thinking about it I've contacted the seller with a view to returning this one and paying some extra money to get a new one made up for me. Despite the cosmetic issues with this particular bass I am totally taken with the instrument's sound and feel. No doubt in my mind that they're amazing instruments, let alone for the price they go for. I've no doubt it'll all be sorted without issue - cheers for the advice folks
Can't argue with that - they're amazing basses.
-
I wouldn't let it bother you. If someone buys it without doing a quick Google search first, then it's their own fault and they deserve to be about four quid worse off. It's really not that big a deal, and it's certainly not worth reporting.
For my money, the essential difference with prog. was that, unlike most other genres, it was essentially 'English', not blues based and not dance orientated. Adding stuff around epic fantasy, mellotrons and long solos was peripheral. It is music that is generally less 'groove' orientated and more cerebral. The fact that there was no expectation that I would have to dance to it was a major attraction
One of the reasons Genesis appeal to me more than (for example) Yes, are the soul influences brought to the mix by Gabriel and Collins (and occasionally Banks). Of course it's all wrapped up in something quintessentially British (sic), but that warmth and groove really spice up the mix to my ears.
Well group-think is everywhere e.g. the "class D amps lack umph" meme.
And also the 'Commonly available class D amps have as much umph as traditional amps' meme.
That's nothing to do with ability. It's GAS.
Nah - it comes from knowing that Rio isn't going to sound quite right on a P, or Peaches will be a bit weird on an Alembic. It's not rocket science.
Hah! I should've googled first. Despite me listening to them throughout my teenage years in the 80s, I could only tell you who the drummer was from listening to Margaret. I like Mosley's drumming then. If he's the worst drummer in prog rock, then prog rock has a pretty decent requisite.
I've just always found him tentative and skittish. And those random 'FLOBBADOBBADOBBA' rolls he throws in set my teeth on edge...
-
Nope, Nick Mason's the worst drummer in prog.
I have to disagree. He's a big reason why Floyd sound like Floyd
