1. FWIW, the slot screws in the bridge are correct, and the neck pocket shot suggests it's not a refin - the paint stick mask is intact.
2. Seems legit. What's ringing your alarm bells?
3. I've just had a very competitive quote for a custom-spec Jake. I need to think...
4. Colour me interested. I've popped him an email..
5.
Not helpful Michael, even if it is potato bread.
I apologise to anyone I have offended.
6. That reminds me - there's a nice warm bit of fadge waiting for me when I get home.
7.
I hear what you are saying, but it is not a large enough "backbone gap" to be an issue in most situations. I had a Mesa MPulse for many years as well as full Tube amps, they have something extra over the D Class heads, but also and for me more importantly have the extra weight. For me the difference was not big enough not to go D Class.
Yep, that's where the Walkabout comes into its own. It's not big, and it's not particularly heavy.
8.
I am not doubting their appeal, but I would say a not insignificant part of that list was created by George Martin, and in the time since, there have been other producers that have moulded groups in the same way. A large number of those that had the same screaming groups of girls at the airports and packed stadiums.
Nah. Most of that list was in place in embryonic form or more before George Martin got involved. I think you need to bear in mind the climate that existed when The Beatles broke through. It wasn't a movement that was bubbling under waiting to happen. It came out of the blue
9. PS - it might sound like it, but I'm not a fanboi.
10.
I agree - but as I have argued many times before with people, I think it was an idea whos time was waiting to happen... I believe that if they never happened, someone else would have happened to do the same thing at the same place.
I disagree. They wrote their own brilliant tunes. They were great musicians, They could sing incredibly well, with loads of energy. They had a fantastic ear for arrangement and harmony. They looked cool. The girls loved them. They were masters of stagecraft. They were ambitious. They knew about the power of brand. They knew what the media wanted. They were nice lads. They were picked up by a powerful record company and were schooled by one of the greats. If the Beatles hadn't happened, someone else would have come along and ticked a lot of those boxes, but not all of them at that critical time. The Beatles were a freakish perfect storm.
11. The Streamliner was the best of the micros I tried, but I still thought - in keeping with the others - that it lacked backbone. The Walkabout gives me the tubey tone, and small-ish size, with the heft of a transformer. I've been happy since.
12. ...and moved to General Discussion :-)
13. My money's on Mellotron, too.
14.
The connection I was making was that , during the 80s when I was a teen, many youth cultures paid respect to the Beatles and Stones, and they where idolised as cream of the crop. Ive over the last 10 years witnessed a large group go through their teens and their focus was on what the Chilli Peppers did in the late 80s and early 90s, just as we looked back on the Beatles. The Peppers where and still are their Beatles
Everyone has 'their' Beatles. It could be Zeppelin, Nirvana, Oasis..whoever. The Beatles were the flashpoint for a global cultural ground-shift, though. There'll never be anything else like it.
15. Why is this still here? An incredible J for MIM money. You can't do better than this.
16. I don't think chunky necks were a QC thing, especially as they started appearing in the late 60s well before the rot set in.
17. Rod Clements of Lindisfarne... http://youtu.be/46ZPzgPTmho
18. Wings: the band the Beatles could have been.
19. I believe the necks are Allparts, and the bodies are made in Scotland. That's all I know.
20. EBS Microbass II. It's a SansAmp with more features that doesn't suck mids. Fantastic, but a bit more pricey...
21.
TC and Genz? You mean the ones who cheated about the power rating of their amps (250w instead of 450) and the ones recently shut down?. Very ahead indeed.
Dunno about Genz... if the Little Giant can be a 'real' 1000w, no reason why the Streamliner can't be 900w too. *cough*
22.
Some crummy phone pics for maple neck colour A couple next to a non aged neck
Great - thank you!
23. Better still: watch The Beatles Anthology, and get a real feel of what it must have been like at the time. Incredible.
