1.
It's not far off if you compare the specs. Nevermind!
Well, it looks like a Jazz, it has a J profile neck and the P pickup isn't in the right place, but apart from that it's close. That's probably Fender's logic too.
2. ..there's a Jazz PJ with blocks, but it's not the same thing.
3.
Isn't the Fender Hot Rod bass a PJ with blocks and that's a USA made model.
There's no such beast, unfortunately.
4.
Wasn't the 2012 Prototype custom model a PJ with blocks - that might be up your street! True it's all a matter of taste but terms like "clueless" I just don't get!!
The 2012 was lovely. But the last couple have been pretty dreadful. The thing is, the 2012 is the kind of thing that should be in their standard line. Even Lakland have one coming out.
5.
In what way do you think the Prototype series has lost direction?
If you can't see why some people think the recent prototypes are... almost comical, there's no point trying to explain it. Clearly there's a difference in tastes going on here. Y'know, that's fine.
6.
Is that what the majority of people want or what you would personally like and how do you know no one will buy them?
I suppose there could be significant demand for a bass that looks like it's finished in rotting dolphin.
7.
Of course. Hey it's Fender trying something a little unusual and different not normally seen on a P of J. I don't quite get this "clueless" approach tho. It seems that anything Fender try differently is pretty much ridiculed on this forum. And if they don't try anything different its seen as the same old boring stuff. I get the impression tho that if it had Sadowsky or Lull on the headstock it would be taken quite differently. I think it will be interesting to see some of these models once the NAMM show is up and running and to see what the Custom Shop is doing this year.
I'd have no problem with these if they were in addition to stuff people have been asking for for years. A better selection of colours, more PJs, P's with blocks.. But they just keep coming out with nowt-nor-summink doggerel that no-one is going to buy.
8. OMG they're genuinely clueless! http://www.gak.co.uk/en/fender-limited-edition-sandblasted-american-standard-precision-bass-sapphire-blue-transparent/109012
9. I mean... seriously, Fender? This looked dated when you did it for Victor Bailey ten years ago. Now it just looks like an anachronism. Honestly, they're losing the plot.
10. http://www.dawsons.co.uk/blog/fender-2015-range-rundown The pearloid guard on the Geddy is sooooo tacky, IMO.
11. Well, say what you like about the unproofed copy, but they've got me drooling and I don't even like Jazzes. What fab colours and photos! Fender's marketing bods should sit up and take notice...
12.
I think the power output of the GK800 is about twice that of the RH750 as well
*sharp intake of breath*
13.
Not sure what it would sound like, the thought of a Ricky fretless somehow sounds wrong!
...but so right! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46ZPzgPTmho
14. Hey there Limelighters! Those of you that have 70's-ish P's... do they have jumbo frets?
15. What's going on with her voice? Just sing! Stop trying to be kooky!
16. We're going to need more info, otherwise you're just going to get a list of pickups... What's your bass? What sound are you looking for? What do you like / dislike about your current tone? What's your budget? ..etc :-)
17. White P for me, but there's not much in it. Incidentally, this video is great, and really shows the power we have in our hands as bass players. Well done! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lS7m_QANCg
18. Another great one gone. Most people will probably have heard him play that distinctive line on Neil Young's Heart Of Gold, but he's played with Dylan, Ry Cooder, JJ Cale and loads more. RIP....
19. I've started digging them a bit more recently... The production is marvellous. It's a lost art.
20. Very few 'new' Fenders interest me. Just the specialist stuff... Roscoe Beck, Tony Franklin... If I was in the market for a new Precision, I'd probably buy a Lakland.
21. My Maple '72 P. Sold a a BC'er a few years ago, and then to another BC'er who (understandably) won't part with it. I miss it a lot.
22. Yeah - He's never rang my bell, either. Clearly a great player, but there's something about him that feels a bit sparkly and shiny for a lot of the stuff he plays. Someone like Willie Weeks always seems to do it better. Clearly I'm wrong, though :-) I'd like his house.
23. There's a great documentary on there about Muscle Shoals, too.
