1. I think that shot of Freddie at the piano with JD standing behind him, stripped P in hand, in the Bohemian Rhapsody video probably places it into 'iconic' territory.
2.
The cloth is glued on a metal grille, so it is strong AND good looking...
Interestingly, pre-TKS, was in discussions with a well-known UK-based cab builder a little while ago about putting cloth over a grille. He old me this couldn't be done effectively - it was strictly a choice between one or the other.
3. The promoters are going to love it when they book you based on your FB likes, and no-one shows up at the gig.
4. Any ol' Precision. Cabs with no tweeters. Bump the mids. Done.
5. Just out of interest... What are you hoping to achieve by getting likes from people just for the sake of it? (genuine question - not sarcasm!)
6.
How were you told that you will have to pay? I've not been told. I'm the admin on our band page.
https://www.facebook.com/business/news/update-to-facebook-news-feed
7. re: The change in January - you'll probably have to be a bit creative around how you pitch your posts. If they're straight ads, you'll have to pay. If they're 'Hey everyone.. have you seen...?' you might get away with it. Time will tell.
8. Happy Christmas to me... NCD thread here.
9. Thread from the dead... I'm about halfway through Jerry's book, and I really like it. TBH, if you're expecting loads of stuff about basses, go and buy a book about basses. But if you're interested in reading about one guy's journey through music, and how exciting it must have been to be a musician in 50s and 60s America, it's well worth a read.
10. Victor Wooten endorses these? Err.. whatever, Vic.
11. Hey gang Mr. UPS dropped by today with my lovely new TKS S112. As you'd expect from Tommy, it's a stunner. I'm a huge fan of the old version of the 112. My hope is that this is the same, albeit even cooler-looking and rear-ported. I'll not be able to give it a proper run out for a few days, but as soon as I do I'll report back. The package also contained covers for the S112 and my S212. They're excellent quality - very thick, very well made, a great fit and very reasonably priced. Fab.
12. The brown truck has arrived* More later.... * Note: this isn't a euphemism for constipation relief
13. As far as I'm aware - and I'm happy to be corrected - Mighty Mite are a lot cheaper and have truss access at the headstock: non-authentic and ugly IMO.
14.
All good points, I was just putting an opinion across that he's valuing his time at over (assuming he buys in bulk) £465 - I have no idea how many man hours it takes to do a relic, but I'd be interested to know... Especially as I'd be up for buying a mighty mite neck P neck that he's reliced to put on my jazz!
Allparts, not Mighty Mite, I believe.
15.
£200 more than usual though - ouch. They're probably the best looking aged fenders I've seen but if you look at what you're paying for; the parts are probably £500 if you were to buy them yourself - I can almost swallow paying £265 for someone to relic it given the time & attention to detail, but almost doubling that? That would be more difficult - I'm sure someone will snap it up though, they are very popular around these parts.
To be fair, a Fender production-line equivalent is probably £100 more than that.
16.
Rumour has it that Collins either refused to play or learn any songs from it for the '07 tour.
I'd be very surprised if it was even suggested...
17.
And I love the way Calling All Stations has been obliterated by the thought police - a piece of work Banks and Rutherford were proud of but never got touched on the 2007 tour.
I don't think it's an era they remember too fondly... to be fair, it's a pretty terrible record.
18. To those who disagree with these basses on moral grounds, I have two questions: 1 ) How much money do they think Fender lose every time one of these basses changes hands? 2 ) Have they every downloaded an MP3 or copied a CD illegally, depriving the creator of a little bit of income? FWIW, I have no argument with people who don't get relic'ing, and and agree entirely that Fender have every right to protect their trademark. And obviously these basses should NEVER be passed off as the real thing (but if, as some people suggest, it's a £150 bitsa attacked by a belt sander, that shouldn't be possible anyway).
19.
Personally I don't really understand why quite so many people are so desperate to put the Fender logo on instruments that, well, aren't. Even one of those "fender-alike" logos that use the same font but say whatever you want them to say makes more sense to me.
FWIW, I would be 100% happy with a Limelight logo that compliments the look of the bass. But it would have to compliment the look of the bass. Some are great (Lakland, G&L). Some of them are horrible.
20.
Are the dots inbounds clay on limelights? I played a couple but never checked that.
Mine are clay... Or something clay-ish.
