I didn't think any shops sell Barefaced. It's not even in the offing, Alex cuts out the middle man and sells direct, but I think retailers would be singing a different tune if he did.
http://manchesterbasslounge.com/?p=6327
I didn't really get on with Chromes or LaBellas - too high in tension and they felt stickly compared to the TIs and Pyramids.
FWIW. La Bellas are sticky out of the packet. Bear with them and they smooth out wonderfully.
Just a shame that so many other chuck Berry songs are pretty well the same tune (though not all by any means).
Fair point. When he does do something different, he does it in style. This must have sounded like it was from the future listening to it in 1957... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAAT9UfI0rw
Chuck, with the likes of Jimmy Reed, kick started the musical careers of most of the bands that went on to create the British Invasion of the US in the early 60's which in turn gave birth to Rock and everything that came after.
It could be argued that Lonnie Donegan snuck in before them..
So after watching this video of Pino Palladino with Nine Inch Nails on his Precision with flat wounds:
That's a great clip - It's a good one to refer the 'all flats can do is thud' crowd to. Well done on your rendition of it too. IME the trickiest part of playing with flats is that most engineers aren't aware of what they're supposed to sound like. They treat 'em like dead flats, and more often than not their magic - that 'woodiness' - is sucked out in the mix.

Here's a Genesis hash-up, fixed in the subsequent live DVD: http://www.youtube....h?v=AaT-ojt7o34 -
Sadowsky Bass Preamp / DI. Full working order. Well used so the case is marked. One of the rubber feet is missing, and there's a small crack in the battery lid, but it's cosmetic, and stable. More info. £115 shipped in the UK. (UK sale only, please). No box or instructions, but it'll be well packed.

One of the most telling quotes for me was from Tony Banks, who he said he realised times had changed for Genesis when one of the singles (Never a Time, maybe? I can't remember) from 'We Can't Dance' didn't automatically get playlisted on the radio. He seemed really put out about that. It clearly didn't occur to him that it might have just been because it was awful. -
Did they mention Calling All Stations? If they did, I blinked and I missed it. Was Ray Wilson mentioned?
No, 'cos it was terrible (IMO). I'm assuming that'll be rectified on additional material in the DVD release. -
And another thing, 'sorry' does NOT need an uppercase 's', so God knows what he's playing at! Tsk!
I think that first comma should be a hyphen.

Hackett's right to be a bit miffed. But, with so much to fit in to 90 minutes, something had to give way. The rest of it was OK. There wasn't much new in there... we know Banks is bitter and uptight, and to ignore W&W is a crime. And... Whoever is managing the band's legacy needs to have a word with themselves. Some of it is embarrassing (R-Kive, the crap in the store...). -
Barrie - out of interest, does the shop have a Facebook page?
Sure you can, M. I need to sell the Bergs first..or that was the plan. oh.... and decideing what covering I wanted... Love the white cabs but can't get my head round the practicalities...
[Devil-on-shoulder-mode ON] The white 112 I babysat for a while was a head-turner. I reckon, with decent covers, they'll be fine. :-)
Wateroftyne what finish is that on your S212 mate it looks great, is that just the grill cloth? Fancy one of these or the S2126. What made you decide on the S212? They really do look like excellent cabs for the sound I'm after. Thanks for joining us Tommy!
It looks even nicer in the flesh :-) Tommy can confirm exactly, but I think it's just standard black vinyl with Fender cloth. There's a grille behind it, so the drivers are protected. I went for the S212 because I wanted to replicate what my current pair of S112s give me (i.e. my favourite ever sound), in a single cabinet. I get plenty of natural high-mids and definition from the single 12s. I don't miss the additional clarity the 6" would give me, but I imagine others would love it.

Do a search on BC for TKS Engineering. Great cabs.
I should warn you that I'm thinking (just thinking, mind) about driving for 4-5 hours to filth up your gathering with Gibson basses. Seems an awful long way to go for 4.5 hours of bass geekery though. Be better to make a weekend of it. You guys do anything the night before - go to the pub or something?
Hmm... that might be an idea. Remind me nearer the time! -

It's probably worth repeating how I ended up with as TKS for the benefit of anyone casually interested in the cabs. I spent a long time with using Bergantinos, which are probably up there near the top of the 'greatest boutique cabs ever' pile. After a couple of years, I realised they just weren't doing it for me anymore. I needed more clarity in the mids, less weight, and comparable build quality. My preference is ceramic drivers, but none of them that I tried rang all those bells. I was about to give up, but then I spotted a post from a Scandanavian BC'er referring to TKS. I Googled 'em, had a look through the range, and got loads of advice (in PERFECT English) from Tommy. Of course it's always good to get opinions from people who use 'em, so I fumbled my way thorough signing up for Pratabas, Sweden's answer to Basschat. From there, I got lots of great, honest info (in PERFECT English) from Swedish players, who all rated them highly. So I took the plunge on a pair of S112s, which I think are just incredible for the money. Fast-forward to now, I've since let one of the S112s go to a very happy buyer (the other is staying put), and replaced it with an S212, which is just glorious. Tommy really cares about what he's building, and IMO, the're the best cabs I've used by a long chalk.
