1.
So, what are they made from? What bodies and necks are they and who does all the fretwork? Are they built from cheaper basses or what? I really fancy one as I don't have a J type and would like to know a bit more.
I'm intrigued as to what's under the hood of mine. It feels incredible, though.
2. Cheers, all! Phil's got an incredible voice. He just never runs out of steam. The front line are brothers, and their harmonies are peerless. They spent a lot of years in 'that London' doing uncredited BVs for big-league artists, and radio idents, etc. It's a fun band.
3. Ah, this is a great bass, and it looks stunning in CAR! Here's the clip you're referring to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEyjx9sUyYQ Bassman Steve - it's a typical early 70s P B-width neck. Chunky, but not a baseball bat. My favourite profile.
4. They are, and the exchange rate is very favourable. Shipping is surprisingly reasonable, too. Incredible for well-designed hand-made cabs.* * Edit: I mean 'not production line'.
5. Mrs. WoT uses a Pure Acoustic bridge pickup (http://www.pureacoustic.com/) into an LR Baggs venue DI. Can't fault it.
6.
Hope it doesn't create a crapstorm over there, I think they are bit fussier about, er... 'branding issues' than we are - if you can believe it after all the Limelight shenanigans we had on here a while back...
I wouldn't be so sure. I posted a thread about mine - I got lots of compliments and nothing about the sticker on the headstock.
7. As far as I'm aware, most of the current crop of class-D's use the same ICEPower module. Marketing nonsense does the rest. EBS seem to be acting more sensibly with the Reidmar, rating it at an honest 250w. I'm happy to be educated otherwise, though.
8. Pal of mine playing fiddle in my band a few years ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hL81A7f2MWo ...and what he's up to these days: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzMLmS9cNxg It couldn't have happened to a nicer lad.
9.
I am keeping my eye on those...as an alternative to Berg 12's which I sometime use. At first, I was thinking I wanted the larger 1126 but those type of gigs are covered by others very well, so I can be thinking in terms of small and punchy S112s..maybe, as long as I can fit an amp on top as I don't have a mini/class D... Having said that...that could change as well. I could move on the Bergs and Thunderfunk for the small class D rig. It would still have to get loud tho at times.
As it happens, the chap who bought my S112 is coming across from Berg 12s,.. as did I. IME, the 1126 was more like the Berg. It's very wide - not my cup of tea personally, but others will lap it up. The S112 is sooo punchy, and the mids 'speak' wonderfully. Ask for them in horizontal configuration, and your amp will sit on top :-)
10.
I think shelved ports are easier to build but I dislike them,...they unbalance the look of a cab. I've never minded rear-ported myself if you want to put it out of the way. I like the general look and vibe of the TKS cabs but I don't like the idea of top dollar cabs with a design compromise, IMO... Talking bass cabs here, not bins...
Ah, OK. FWIW, the new S112s have circular rear ports, too.
11.
Glad they got rid of the shelved port....
To be fair, I never noticed any chuffing with the original 15..?
12. Oooh.. Tommy's just posted this on his Facebook page. Looks very interesting...!
There is a new cabinet under development! It's a more portable version of the current H115. 1126-sized, and that's just enough to fit the 15" speaker and a tweeter. The port is moved to the rear side to keep the size down, and the cabinet retains almost all the low end capability of the current H115. Since it uses a high excursion 15" speaker this gives a very good combination of displacement (capability to move much air in the lower frequencies without "running out of steam") and high sensitivity, it will be a very good companion to amplifiers around 1000W for anyone who needs to play loud. Especially when used in a pair, for a portable and powerful 2x15 setup. Here's a picture with the grille cloth off.
13. Got it in one! Apparently the 2x12 sounds pretty much the same as a pair of 12's, i.e. Nirvana to my ears. So, I'll have a 12 for small stuff, and a single larger cab that's still an easy lift & carry for larger stuff.
14. Sad news: I've sold one of my S112s Happy news: Another TKS cab will be heading my way in a couple of weeks
15. Hi all Dan Lakin has just put his new website live. Even if - like me - you have no real interest in the basses, the 'history' pages are an interesting - and occasionally refreshingly honest - read. Some of the typos raise a smile, too. Worth a look. http://dlakinbasses.com/
16. Yip - here's the thread. It may or may not be the same problem.
17. If I didn't have kids, I'd like to think I'd be doing the bass thing full time.
18. 2x45's round these parts. Plus encores if you're feeling wanted / charitable.
19.
I'm pretty sure the Classic and the RH450 were released at the same time. The Classic being the "budget" RH which doesn't have saveable presets. Otherwise it's the same unit
^^^^ This.
20. The guitar has to be in tune, so learn in to fill the gaps. It's a band responsibility.
21. I would never have believed that my #1 would ever again be a Jazz... but there you have it. It is. I used it at the Summertyne festival in Gateshead over the weekend. The video is fuzzy, but here's a clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FEnQALf0NQ
22.
Without wanting to come off uncool and thick, what is the TV logo?
Here y'are... designed to be more readable on the telly:
23. Lush, I still want one of these with a TV logo in maple. It'll happen sometime.
