1.
OMG Ramesh! Bloody lovely. What clone year?
'63
2. Well... look what I just got: I had no intention whatsoever of buying a Jazz, but I went to see someone about a Precision today and they also had this. I just couldn't resist it...
3. Wow... that's a bargain! If I was half-man half-machine I would buy that in an instant. As it stands, my back would wave the white flag after twelve seconds.
4. I'd really like to try one of these but I just can't get over the lack of a tone knob....!
5.
Ive been playing this bass none stop since I got it over the weekend, I cant put it down... great weight
That's a rare thing indeed.... treasure it.
6. OK - you have my attention. One of these with a 70s P neck profile, around 8.5lbs, and I'll pick it up next week. Thank you.
7. If it had even vaguely stank of 'old blokes trying to recapture former glories' I'd had instantly hated it. As it happens, i thought it was awesome. Very classy, and rehearsed to do it justice within their current capabilities. And yes, Jason was incredible. My only disappointment was that the bass is lost in the mix on the Blu-ray, and they didn't do Carouselambra.
8. Just keep at it. The muscle memory will kick in eventually.
9. Yep, it's possible for a band to be too loud. When punters ask us to turn up, it's 'cos years of listening to bands that play too loud has ruined their hearing. Personally, I'm not going to play that game.
10.
Must admit the black scratch sounds a decent idea as all the Antigua scratches ive seen have been almost grey and would be a complete mismatch
I had an Antigua J a few years ago, and the paint came off the guard when I took the ashtrays off. I managed to track down an original guard - they're out there - but like I mentioned above it wasn't cheap. A black guard would look wrong IMO.
11. Hmm. All IMO... Someone like Dave Wilson could do a pretty good fill and match, and you can probably pick up an original Antigua guard for £100-ish. That's a lot of money in total, though. The alternative - like you say - would be to refin it. It's already been butchered so you don't have to worry about keeping it original. Plus, Antigua isn't really that popular in the second hand market anyway. It's a toughie, but I'd maybe be tempted to go with the latter.
12. Yep, if it's the real deal you'll be asked to fill out a form which includes your set list.
13. I'd be interested to hear opinions on how a passive P/J with the P pup solo'd compares to the real thing...
14.
I'm badly placed to comment (I'm basically a drummer..! ) but I don't really understand why, if weight is such an issue (with which I fully sympathise...), why are hollow or semi-hollow instruments not more solicited..?
The answer in my case is simply that I like Precisions, and there are light ones out there.
15.
It's probably a very small percentage that don't turn up right.
Quite possibly, especially given that G&L are far more popular in the US than in the UK.
16.
I still suspect with WOT's issue that GG just don't want to get it out of its delivery packaging to check.
You may well be right. As an aside, I'd have much more confidence buying a bass mail order knowing the retailer had opened it up to check it was OK before sending it out.
17.
Wow Does he make the bodies and necks ? If not where are they from ? If so, what woods are they ?
The bodies are made in Scotland from alder.
18. Clearly going into the shop and trying it would be my preferred option, but neither are in Newcastle. And yes, I suppose I could ask GuitarGuitar to send them both to the shop, but what's the point if they're boat anchors? This shouldn't really be that complicated IMO. Other retailers have managed it...
19.
Check the manufacturers website - many include weight as part of the spec. Failing that, try Google. What bass is it?
We've discussed this earlier - there's too much natural variance from bass to bass.
20. Can any of the Limelight P owners give me any insight into the neck profiles on these? Are they C, or U? Chunky, shallow...? Ta :-)
21. Tony Levin played Going Home from Local Hero as well. The most un-Levin like bass I've heard.
22.
so wondering what it was I just went on their website and looked for sunburst fenders to find out what it is....
...and you'd be wrong :-)
23.
Blimey, you are a stickler, aren't you?
My back isn't like it used to be, and I just want to know the weight of something I'm going to have hanging off my shoulder for up to 2 hours a time. A stickler, or sensible?
24.
There must be some way of finding out how much the particular model weighs without them doing it, even if you have to go to the manufacturer.
It varies from tree to tree... weighing the bass itself is the only answer.
