1.
Well, if you don't possess a set of scales (bathroom or otherwise) I imagine it'd be a bit tricky...
That's a fair point. I just assumed a mail order retailer would own a pair of scales.
2. Hey gang There's a particular bass I'm quite interested in buying, and I spotted that a popular online and bricks-and-mortar retailer (I'm not going to name names. Oh, go on then - guitarguitar) have a couple of examples in stock. So I emailed them and asked if they would mind weighing them, 'cos I'm one of those sticklers for weight. I got a very rapid reply from an apologetic chap who said they have no way of weighing a bass(?). I've asked the question before of other retailers and always got a reply so.. this surprised me. Was I asking too much of them, do you think?
3.
Good video but John Illsley has let himself go a bit.
Ha :-)
4. If someone uses flats and all they get is a dead thump, they're doing something wrong.
5. ...and can you confirm wether or not it's coated in ground-up unicorn horn?
6. I've changed a few times with New Moon, and it's always taken a minute or two over the phone.
7. FWIW, I just paid about £95 to cover about £6000 worth of stuff.
8. Mr. Venom lives next-door to my pal. Disappointingly, it's a normal-looking house, and not a castle or a dungeon.
9. Thread bump... I've just renewed with New Moon insurance, having been with them for the last couple of years. I spoke to a very pleasant man in an office in Tunbridge Wells, who told me the premium is the same as last year. Which is nice, especially as it's on the right side of £100 for quite a few grand's worth of gear. Of course the proof is in the pudding, and (touch wood) I haven't had cause to claim yet, but nothing I've read anywhere gives me anything other than confidence in them. Definitely worth a look.
10. While we're on, did I ever post this clip from a gig I did a year or so ago? I probably did, but I'm going to post it again. http://youtu.be/j1Ys3SBl17g?t=5m59s
11. Here's Illsley at his best, IMO. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUOqTIaau3o
12. Yeah - the bass in Live at the BBC is totally out of character. Great stuff, but the warmer tones you usually associate with John Illsley suit it better. I think time is about right for a Straits reappraisal. They were bloody great, and much better than the 80s image they've been tainted with would suggest.
13. I've seen a fair bit of chat on Talkbass about this... maybe have a look on there. The quality of Fender actives tends to be a bit flaky. John East they ain't.
14. I love these heads so much.. if I had the money, I'd buy another just so I could look at them and smile.
15. Search YouTube for Lakland bass setup. Their guy gives a fantastic tutorial.
16. Really. I mean.. WTF?
17. It's a Kay! One of these was my first ever bass...
18. Here's what I use. It might seem a bit overkill, but a ) you can whip it in and out(!) in seconds between songs, and b ) it looks cool.
19. These cabs really are remarkable. Even though they're ceramic they weigh nothing. And because they're ceramic, they're very reasonably priced, and they have that ceramic tonal thing going on.* *IMO this is something hard to describe, but it exists. Feel free to disagree.
20. They're absolutely stunning! The new designs are beautiful. The S112s are incredible even without taking the price into account. Nice to have another TKS owner on here. I didn't get tweeters in mine, either - don't need 'em. If anyone wants to know more about these, I urge you to head over to www.tks.se.
21.
But, if I had written it and it found its way to Pharrell Williams he wouldn't have reached 3m hits?
No doubt it would, my point is that we both know that probably wouldn't happen. There are a million - dare I say it - better songs out there which never get to a wider audience 'cos the writer isn't 'connected'. Such is life.
22.
Er, I think you're missing the point.
It wasn't a direct response to any point you made. I was merely making a point of my own.
