Very nice tone with the flats WoT, I also find the stock round wounds that came with mine are very low output - I assumed it was the pups. What sort of tension are the JOs, I love flats but I like low-medium tension like Status Hotwires, are the JOs similar?
Cheers... I thought I was going loopy re: the output. The tension of the JO's? I'll have to cop out and say 'medium'. Not like TIs... comparable to La Bella FLs.

Thanks folks :-) The flats are Lakland Joe Osbornes.

I've just spent a couple of hours playing it tonight. It sounds great but I noticed that the output was incredibly low compared to my P's, and I couldn't figure out why... until I put flats on it, and BOOM! My God, what a glorious noise. Fat growl! I dunno what kind of rounds it had on it, bit there can't be much metal in 'em. This bass is so well put together. If I can sweet-talk Mrs. WoT I can see myself keeping this AND getting a maple-neck P. It's and absolute monster, and it feels like an old friend already. I've re-made the video with an additional three clips with the flats on. Sorry it's repetitive. I have to bring attention to the slide around 4m12s. And that's with flats on it.

Today I played Herbie Flower's 1959 Jazz Bass
wateroftyne replied to Plux_the_Duck's topic in Bass Guitars
Err, I think this started as a happy thread, sadly ruined by argumentative pendants. What a shame. Herbie would probably tell you to shut up and stop bickering.
There's not much bickering, but a lot of informed discussion about the genesis of one of the most iconic musical instruments there is. Which, for a bass forum, isn't that surprising. -
http://www.notreble....rd-jaguar-bass/ The white/tort is incredible.
Yes. Yes it is.
Michael - lovely sounds - am I right in saying that the Bridge pickup and Neck pickup are noted the wrong way around?
Ah.. I see where the confusion has come from! What I meant is that the neck pickup AND tone are backed off. Same for the bridge pup. I'll re-do the clip and update it later. :-)
Looks great Michael, enjoy your new bass !
Cheers, Marsy! I was hugely tempted by your '57. Maybe one day....
What strings are they Michael ?? The bass sounds great btw.
It's the rounds it was wearing when I got it.... not sure of the brand. The flats will be going on soon
Absolutely gorgeous... machines are 70s style though. Love the detail, that neck looks a dream. Nice playing!
Well spotted, and.. thank you
Bit of a silly question but are these limelight basses made with proper Fender parts or are they actually limelight made just with a Fender decal stuck on the headstock?
I have no idea. The necks are made in Scotland, apparently. Dunno about the rest.
Strange - satin I could understand
Maybe the buyer specified it? I dunno. Personally, I prefer glossy so it works fer me. :-)

I made some sound clips. (Disclaimer: I'm just a dabbler when it comes to home recording)
Is it the photo or does the back of the neck look smooth and glossy whilst the body looks a bit battered (In a good way, I like it)
Yep - it looks like the neck was left intentionally relic'd-but-glossy....
-
That's the way to produce a relic. Really looks the part.
Doesn't it? I was never keen on Bravewood - I always thought they looked like they'd been nibbled by rodents.

Hey gang I went to have a look at a new American Standard Precision that someone was selling over the weekend. It was very nice, but I'm just not a new shiny bass kind-of-guy. The seller was also selling a Limelight '63 Jazz medium relic. Now, I swore myself off Jazzes a while ago when I sold my '71, but this thing was smiling at me in an 'aren't I pretty?' kind of way. Next thing I know, I've bought the bugger. I'm so shallow.... As you can see, it's very, very nice. Lovely weight, nice and resonant. I know there are a lot of relic haters out there, but if it's been tastefully I've never had an issue with it. And this has been done extremely well IMO. For some reason the previous owner has removed the Limelight signature from the back (just done in marker pen, I think?) - which is a shame - and, bizarrely - the 'offset body' logo from the headstock. Dunno why. I've actually been talking to Mark at Limelight about getting a lightly relic'd P - if I still don't connect with Jazzes, this is such a good job a Limelight P could well be on the cards. We'll see...

Is last night's audience of one a record?
wateroftyne replied to leschirons's topic in General Discussion
We sold out a 450-seater hall at the other end of the country. £15 per ticket. The next afternoon, on the way home, we honoured a free-entry pub gig in a town local to us. Not one person showed up. No-one. And it was FREE. With the agreement of the manager, we pulled the everything down and left without playing a note. Anticlimax? Yep. -
I take it it's a Limelight ??
Yip!
-
OMG Ramesh! Bloody lovely. What clone year?
'63

Well... look what I just got: I had no intention whatsoever of buying a Jazz, but I went to see someone about a Precision today and they also had this. I just couldn't resist it...
-
Wow... that's a bargain! If I was half-man half-machine I would buy that in an instant. As it stands, my back would wave the white flag after twelve seconds.
-
I'd really like to try one of these but I just can't get over the lack of a tone knob....!
Ive been playing this bass none stop since I got it over the weekend, I cant put it down... great weight
That's a rare thing indeed.... treasure it.

OK - you have my attention. One of these with a 70s P neck profile, around 8.5lbs, and I'll pick it up next week. Thank you.

If it had even vaguely stank of 'old blokes trying to recapture former glories' I'd had instantly hated it. As it happens, i thought it was awesome. Very classy, and rehearsed to do it justice within their current capabilities. And yes, Jason was incredible. My only disappointment was that the bass is lost in the mix on the Blu-ray, and they didn't do Carouselambra.
