The currently-available micro-heads that I've tried just don't have it. They have to do all sorts of nonsense to 'sound' loud, which isn't quite the same as 'feeling' loud. IMO. Give me a lump of iron, please.

What's going on is this: if you were to look at what's being played under a microscope, you'd see a plethora of little pushes, pulls, ghost notes, mutes, variations in dynamics. All these transform the straight sequence of notes you're currently playing into the living, breathing soulful part you're aiming for. And it'll come - you just have to do it without thinking about it. And that's where experience comes in. It's good that you're thinking about at such an (presumably) early stage. But don't get too hung up on it. Chances are most of this will take care of itself subconsciously.

That's the bit that comes with experience. Just keep doing it.

With that budget, Early 70s all the way. Prices are still reasonable-ish, they're generally well-built and a good weight, and they have a feel all of their own.

They look half-arsed. I'd hoped Fender would take this opportunity to bring out something that would really get them back in the game. Ah, well.

I clicked on the link with a view to hating it intensely, what with it being dull muso-w*kery and all. But... it's pretty damn good. He's a hell of a drummer, and the production is fab.
