1.
Sorry for going of topic, but.. Could someone explain the use of the term 'heft'? I've seen it a few times in relation to amplifiers I still don't understand what its being used to describe. I own a Walkabout (AB) an LM3 (AB) and a Demeter Minnie 800 (D) and I've put them through the same cab, same bass in the same room and while there are the expected tonal differences to the output I'm not personally finding much else. Perhaps its me? Has anyone managed a Tom Bowlus style pre amp line out connecion mod on their WA?
It's a very subjective thing - some people seem to pick up on it, and others don't. I noticed with my AI Focus, Streamliner and TC RH450 that although I could hear the notes, and they were loud, they just lacked impact. They felt almost hollow. At the time, I was doing a lot of gigs with hired backline, and any amp that had a transformer in it just seemed to have a quality the micros lacked. I can't speak for your experience of course, but maybe the Demeter doesn't have the same kind of signal management that you find on the more mainstream lightweight heads? I dunno.
2. Dave Wilson's work is second-to-none. He's a perfectionist.
3.
The pre amp and overall design/limiting will have a much larger impact on tone and volume over the difference between two similarly rated, but different class, power amp sections.
Yep - I think you'll be pushed to find any Class D that doesn't have some sort of limiting circuit in place to 'simulate' a louder amp.
4. Nice! I do (genuinely) like the Limelight scribble on the back of the headstock. It would be very easy for him not to. Respect.
5.
I had a Walkabout for while - didn't get on with it at all and sold it very quickly. Sounded a bit flat and wooly to me, especially in combo format
Yeah - the Walkabout doesn't really shine in the Scout combo.
6.
I've always read really good things about these amps and many times I've thought about getting one but I'm worried those 300 watts are not enough, I play in rather loud band Any ideas on how it compares, volume and tone wise, to heads like the Aguilar TH500? I'd run this amp through a Barefaced Super Twin
I have no experience with the TH500 so I can't comment on that, Most of my bands are pretty controlled volume-wise, but I've done deps in loud bands with the Walkabout, and as long as I've brought enough cone area along (2 x Bergantino 2x10s at the time), it's never struggled. It's just given out an honest, fat, analogue punch with a proper backbone. Don't forget it's a conservative 300 watts - it's 340w into 4ohm. It'll also put 480w into 2ohm. That said, it you crave clean headroom, don't bother.
7.
The awesome Mesa Walkabout is AB. Small amp, huge heft. I've run mine through a Barefaced BT2 and it's incredible, it has so much heft.
Yeah. Once you've tried a Walkabout, the others feel a bit 'diet'.
8. I assumed this thread was about the Eurovision Song Contest.
9. Yeah. IMO a post like this based on one failed attempt at a email communication is a bit harsh.
10. Have you tried putting flats on your P and palm muting? It won't help if you're after a rich, resonant DB tone, but if you want a nice fat muted DB sound, it'll get you close when it's in the mix.
11. What kind of stuff are you playing?
12. I'm having a chat with him too...
13. Say hello to my pal Peter Donegan. He's on the bill too.
14. Lots of Bass Direct chat here. Edit: Link's not working - just go up to search and search topic titles for 'bass direct'.
15.
IMO the flats are way better. The tone is more "rounded",and the little lick that you threw in sings out better.
Yip - I love flats. They don't just do 'thump'.
16. Here's a recording I did last night using a little Lexicon interface thingy... https://soundcloud.com/wateroftyne/sets/1971-fender-precision
17.
I think the internet breeds certain time wasters who dream of being in a band but can't actually play/organise/do anything as they don't put the effort in. Good old wanted posters used to cause less fuss.
Don't trust the Internet.... Get out there and talk to people. Get to know them. Get to know their peers. That's the best way to connect with like-minded people.
18. Gareth - there is an element of truth to your theory: City centres are transient places. Most of the good stuff goes on in the suburbs and satellite towns where musical relationships develop over years. Newcastle is a big town, and it has a lot going on around the fringes. You just haven't found it.
19. Phew... I thought you were going to post a picture of Mrs. WoT.
20. It's been done - general concensus is even if it was available in the UK, it's still not very good :-)
21. Hi everyone My old band had a get-together for old times' sake last night 'cos the singer is moving to foreign climes. We haven't played for a few years, but apart from a couple of blips, it was pretty much like riding a bike.... lots of fun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8k4m8OLhL8k http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUOH8tSLa20 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nm9p3pPqq7s
22. Here's a clip from my gig last night where I used the H115, on loan from its soon-to-be owner. I LOVE this cab. So fat and authoritative. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUOH8tSLa20
23. Yep - lop the last digit off the SEK price, and that's your approximate GBP price.
